This book is basically like a wolf version of warriors, there are four main packs, and territory each of them have and protect. The character narrating is Shadow, a lone wolf who learns to live the ways of pack wolves. I hope you like my book! I am open to criticism. I will be updating it daily! Enjoy!
Into The Night
By Chase Dirkx
Prologue:
The alpha was questioning the spirit. "It doesn't make any sense!" She said. The alpha didn't have as much wisdom as she thought.
"You aren't meant to understand the prophecy at first." The starry wolf said. "But I will say it one more time."
"But it doesn't make any sense!" She repeated. The starry wolf rolled her eyes.
"Listen Moon, you need patience."
"But the prophecy! Tell me what it means!" Moon said, but the starry wolf already faded away.
A shadow shall be your savior...
Chapter 1:
So Cold... I can't feel my paws. I am traveling through the forest in search of prey. I quickly spot a deer and take it down, giving it a swift bite to the neck. I devour the deer in little time. I lick my muzzle once I am done. My ears instantly perk up when I hear a twig to my left break. I turn to see a beautiful white she-wolf standing there, staring at me. "U-U-Uh." I stammered. The she-wolf didn't seem to care, she only gave me a smile. "Greetings, I am Horizon." She said. I slowly regain my words. "Nice to meet you Horizon, I am Shadow." I say to her. Horizon padded over to me. "Well Shadow, what are you doing out here, all alone?" She asked. "I prefer to be alone." I inform her. "I am a lone-wolf. And, I have to leave." I pad away, and end up sprinting away to the mountains, into the night. Once I am well enough away from the she-wolf, I tilt my head up and howl. I think about my meeting with Horizon and how quick it was, but don't care. On my way to the mountains I stop and eat very few times, only when it's necessary. Once I was close to the mountains I pick up the scent of many wolves, and decide to investigate. I follow the scent trail, but it eventually fades. I quickly find my way back, and arrive at the mountains. The terrain is very different than the terrain back home. The ground is sharp, rocky, and steep. There is also more dangerous predators, like mountain lions. There is very few trees, but lots of bushes. While I am exploring I pick up the scent of the wolves again, and am determined to find them. As I am searching I am well aware of someone watching me. I quickly turn around growling. "Who are you?" I growled. A grey she-wolf padded into view. "My name is Moon, I am the alpha of the pack The Mountain Wolves." Moon told me. "A pack?" I ask in disgust. "Packs are for cowards! You're only in a pack so you have someone to hide behind when you're in danger! A pack is for wolves who are scared to fight one vs. one!" Moon didn't seem taken aback at all. "Actually, to be in a pack is a great responsibility. You have to be there for your pack-mates. You have to think of your pack first. It's your pack before yourself." She told me. "And if you change your mind and want to join, meet me right here my tomorrow at midnight." And with that she walked away. The next night at midnight I Moon where she said she would be. She raised a fictional brow when I showed up. "I'm surprised you came." She told me. "Yeah, well I guess a lone-wolf sometimes needs a pack." I said quietly. "Well then." She said. "Follow me." I follow her to the edge of the mountain when I ask, "I guess the more power the better." Moon looked at me and rolled her eyes. "Have you learned nothing? Power isn't everything, it's loyalty that's important." She said. Once we got to camp everyone was looking at me and muttering to each other. Moon padded on top of a tall boulder in the middle of the camp. "All pack members." She shouted. "Gather under the High Boulder, I have an announcement. I have taken in a lone-wolf, his name is Shadow." Everyone looked at me and started whispering. Moon continued, "And unless anyone has any objections, you may welcome Shadow to our pack, The Mountain Wolves." A white wolf named Frost spoke up. "I challenge Shadow to a battle, the winner gets to stay in the pack, and the loser leaves." He said. I looked at Frost with defiance in my eyes. "I accept!"
Chapter 2:
I position myself a few tail-lengths away from Frost, waiting for the signal to start. Moon let a bark, the signal. I jumped at Frost but he swiftly dodged my attack. He rammed into me, which left my side stinging. I quickly get back up and jump, attempting to attack his front paws. Frost jumped up, but not high enough to dodge my attack. I grabbed onto his back left paw and bit onto it as hard as I could. His paw bled rapidly. "Alright! You won!" He said in pain. "I guess I have to leave." He started to limp away. "Frost wait." I said. "You don't have to leave. Stay, and we will try to get you fixed up." Moon padded over to me once we fixed Frost up. "Congratulations, you are now a part of The Mountain Wolves." She woofed.
...Three Days Later....
It's been three days since I joined the pack, and I've learned a lot. There are three other packs, Alpha Sierra, Beta Noire, and the Riverside Pack. I've also made a good friend, Rose. She is a reddish-Brown she-wolf with yellow eyes. I've also learned the ranks, there is an alpha, which is the leader, a beta, which is the second-in-command, there are apprentices, who are middle-aged pups who are being trained how to hunt and fight by adults, and pup-mothers, who are pregnant or nursing pups. Today I am on my way to a gathering, where all the packs can talk and learn what's going on. Our pack had to walk a fairly long distance to The Clearing, where the gatherings are held. I silently padded beside Rose. Once we arrived I sat down and waited for the other packs come. First came Dusk, a black wolf who is the alpha of Beta Noire.
