IS THERE ANYBODY IN THERE? JUST NOD IF YOU CAN HEAR ME COMFORTABLY NUMB -- PINK FLOYD NOTES: Last main plot thread WORD COUNT: 416 ❥ DRAGGING THE TRAITOR named Lyric, Drought stepped into the main clearing with a grunt. Though his gaze was harsh and fury danced in the narrowed amber orbs, his mind was in chaos. His grand plan had just been shattered, smashed to bits - all by the cat whom he had trusted with a crucial job. The ex-royal had been tasked with guarding the hostage kittens, and she had betrayed him while he'd been fighting for his life against the invading rats. Drought was exhausted inside, and perhaps it showed a little in the way that he moved. But he couldn't rest until he had punished the cat responsible for ending his reign over the Clans.
The past seemed almost to be repeating itself. This was the second time that Drought would have to harm a former ally. First it had been Jade, many moons ago when the she-cat had spoken against DeathClan and then fled. He'd been in charge of bringing her back for punishment. Except this time, he'd be the one making an example of Lyric in front of the entire Clan.
Releasing the grey-and-white feline at the foot of the the rotting tree stump from which he usually made announcements, Drought hissed in the younger cat's ear. "Listen, scum. If you so much as attempt to move before I'm finished with you?" He raised a sharp claw to the fur of his own throat, then ruffled it with a sideways jerk of his paw. Giving her one last disgusted glare, the leader leaped onto his perch and yowled his summons.
"DeathClan! Gather here to see what happens to those who defy me!"
Undoubtedly, his cats would be tired from the battle with the rats, but it didn't matter as long as those attending would spread the news of what he was about to do. Drought waited several moments for several cats to gather before he spoke again.
"The cat before you is a traitor. She has plotted against us, and led Clan cats here to take back their kittens while we were fighting against the Twolegplace rats. It's been a long time since a public torturing was conducted... But we'll fix that little dilemma right now."
Leaping down from the log, Drought landed next to Lyric and suddenly slashed at her ears, aiming to shred them. In one swift movement, he snapped at her tail with his jaws and attempted to sink his teeth in deep. The DeathClan leader was just getting started with her.

Lyric was thrown down to the ground, giving a wince. The bleeding from her head was drying into a darker red crust. The gray and white she-cat glared at the leader as he made his small example of what he'd do to her if she moved, lashing her tail. Then, he called the clan together. As the cats gathered, the former DeathClanner gave a small snort, crouched on the ground. She flicked her ears once before Drought began his attack.
Lyric felt a sting on her ears as he raked his claws down them, ripping them. She gave a wince, wanting to move back. But, she'd be killed. Better yet, being killed would be better off than being tortured in front of the morons of this clan. The she-cat then felt teeth bite at her tail, and she gave a loud scream, trying to move out of his grasp. She felt herself fly forward a bit, and something was warm and stinging where he tail was.
She turned around, seeing a bit of her tail on the ground. Lyric froze and stumbled from the shock of the blood and the missing part of her tail. She stood there, shivering with fear and pain.

'DeathClan! Gather here to see what happens to those who defy me!'
Hearing that phrase rang like a bell to the Royal, and even though the tabby was still heavy in slumber, the call immediately woke her up. Honestly, she missed hearing the call of an announcement. It was more forceful than the one that Iceclan used, 'All cats who are old enough to catch prey' or something like that. Not like it mattered to her anyways.
Approaching the clearing, Dove froze to see who was the victim. Her eyes widened, recognizing who was going to be the one tormented by the splotched leader. Lyric. Dove immediately stayed low, wondering of what Lyric could have done to receive such negative attention.
Lyric, a traitor? She could not believe it. Hearing her leader speak more made her believe that was true though. So that was how the kit returned to its clan. she inquired, remembering how Vale led herself and Ashes back to their disgusting, but more natural home.
Rats. Rats? She was now lost. Why were rats in Deathclan, and why wasn't she told about this? Watching Drought attack Lyric was devastating, but she knew that it was a scene that she and her clan mates were forced to watch. Punishment usually revolved around psychical pain around here anyways.

Lyric was a traitor? Alright, sure. Sounded like fun. Bell padded onto a scene, and his serene smile only grew at the sight of Drought enacting punishment upon the she-cat. The two had been something almost considered 'friends', he'd helped her feed the kits after all. It was fun spending time wondering if anyone expected him to help her. Well of course not. Duh. Why would he waste the time? There was one cat he owed even a semblance of loyalty to, and that was the tom doling out the payment. If he didn't know it would be frowned up and punished in turn, Bell would have stepped forward to help. As it was he maintained himself with a straight back and a smile as the proceedings continued. He wasn't looking forward to Lyric's wails and screams, or the excitement of his clan-mates. He'd find irritations in both, but the tom was too stubborn to leave.

"DeathClan! Gather here to see what happens to those who defy me!" I had gathered a bit later than the others, and saw Dove in the little group around the clearing, but she wasn't the main cat that I was focused on. A bloodied gray-and-white she-cat was in the clearing. Lyric... She had been the one who took care of the kits. I listened to the rest of the DeathClan leader's announcement, and was shocked at what I heard, the same as Dove, from the expression I saw. Lyric was a traitor? There was a rat attack? The news was shocking, it was true, but for Lyric to suffer public punishment I had mixed feelings about. It was dangerous to defy DeathClan, but punishment in front of most of the cats was humiliating. Still, I could do nothing but stand and watch.

Mockingbird watched in pure horror and confusion. She ran up to Ashes. "What's going on? she whispered, stariing at the traitor... Lyric? Yes, Lyric. Mockingbird was a little nfine with this, seeing t hat at least this wasnt happening to her. Oh, if this dilemna happened to her, she could kill herself the moment she got the chance. But being publicly tortured isnt something you see everyday..... Mockingbird was wide eyed. What had Lyric done? All Drought was some power-hungry, blood thirsty, THING. Poor Lyric really didnt deserve something THIS dreadful, right?

Droughts harsh words rang in her ears. Something wasn't right. Luna spotted Mockingbird pad across the clearing to where cats were gathered, and so she followed. She was a bit late, but knew there were alot more to come. Quietly, she slank over to Mocking bird, then shifted through the light croud, to the front. Immediany, she saw Lyric, and horror bolted through her. The fur along Luna's spine lifted in confusion. Then she looked up at drought, who's amber eyes were burning with rage. Terror took its place next to the horror that shot through her. Oh no... Don't kill her! Luna thought, wild eyed.
When Drought leapt down, and slashed at her ears, she winced as though witnessing it herself. Then, when Drought bit off a pice of her tail, Luna lashed her tail in fury. Lyric and Luna had gotten in a little fight a few moons ago, but how could Luna just let Drought do this? Sighing, Luna called out a question: "Drought, are you going to end her?"

AND IN THE STREETS THE CHILDREN SCREAMED AMERICAN PIE -- DON MCLEAN NOTES: really exhausted right now WORD COUNT: 203 ❥ THE REEK OF blood was thick in the air, and Drought spat out some of the crimson liquid as he released what was left of Lyric's tail. He could feel the heavy stares of his followers as he loomed over the defeated grey-and-white feline. With a slight glance to the side, the tom noticed some familiar pelts. Several of the cats nearby had been tasked with overseeing his conquests; they must have been driven out as soon as the Clans got their kittens back. Things were happening too fast, and he couldn't do anything but watch as his glory slipped away like grains of sand piled on a paw pad.
Before Drought could resume the punishment, a cat spoke up. He snarled and turned to face Luna. "Silence, peasant." That question would be answered soon enough anyway, and he wasn't going to waste his time with mere words.
With a swift movement, the leader slashed at the side of Lyric's face, dangerously close to her eyes. He could blind her, but why bother? It was better to let the frightened traitor see her own blood staining the ground. Drought moved on to aim several blows at her spine, trying to shred her back.

The strong tang of blood choked her. She could almost taste the metallic liquid from where she sat. Luna looked at Lyric with pity. But when Drought finnally answered with an expected snarl, Luna just have an icy stare from narrowed eyes. A growl bubbled in her throat. She wouldn't watch this. With a sigh, Luna stood and drifted to the back of the group. With one last glans over her shoulder, Luna thought she caught Drought's eye. The shecat shook it off.

Lyric had a few moments of rest when Drought had loomed over her and yelled back into the crowd at a she-cat. She turned her head to see it was Luna, a cat she hadn't gotten along with. She saw pity in her eyes, and she gave a small scoff. I don't need pity. she thought to herself. But, the tear and stinging of claws reached the left side of her face, very close to her eye. Her eyes shut as she winced, feeling the burning blood roll down her face and onto the ground.
I rather had been blinded.
Drought had moved, and Lyric, idiotically, moved to try to escape, but she felt his claws tearing at her back. The gray and white she-cat gave a loud cry, turning her back from Drought to face him. Fury and pain was clear in her green gaze as she glared at the leader.
I only hope he doesn't see fear in me.

Drought, you moron. You never learn, the she-cat thought, lounged on a low tree branch overhanging the clearing. The scene was gruesome, blood everywhere. Had she been stronger, maybe then she would have helped the poor feline in the middle, but she was no stronger than the cat in the middle, or so it appeared. When she had supposedly done, which was release the kits, was something that she herself had wanted, but never would have done.
The smell was absolutely sickening. She remembered punishments of her own, yet they never became something she was used to, whether it be her own or someone else's. It was horrible either way. Seriously, Drought. You have some issues, that's for sure, she thought with a smug look. The she-cat's scream pierced her ears, and Strike found herself looking away, not being able to stand it anymore. She silently hoped the she-cat would fight back, but it didn't look like she would.

"Gosh, why does he have to torture her? And the torture isnt even real torture! He should do something like pulling her leg off." Mockingbir mewed, unintentionally making it louder then she thought. But then when she saw Lyric, she winced and wished she could take that back

Luna winced as Lyrics pain stricken yowl sliced into her hearing. She whipped around, only to see pain and fear flash in her eyes. Rage surged through her. She took a step forward and sat next to Mockingbird. "Drought is so.... Stupid." She hissed to Mockingbird, her meow louder than intended. Luna bit her lip, hoping Drought would shrug it off, or not hear it.

I was quite unexpected for the brutal punishment that lay before me. I would expect Lyric to be hurt some, like with scratches and bites, and then banished, but I didn't expect it to be this... brutal. The gray-and-white she-cat was almost covered in blood, from my point of view. But unlike the others around me, I was smart enough to hold my tongue after Drought silencing Luna after she had spoken aloud.

Sunspots raced into the clearing feeling ashamed for being so late. She glanced up at her leader to see him holding down a bloody mess of a cat, which she could barely see the matted gray and white fur. Lyric! The traitor who let the hostages go! Sunspots' eyes narrowed while bared her teeth and bent her ears back in Lyric's direction. Her ears turned as she heard Luna give a small outburst, loud enough for Drought to hear. She tried to size herself up a bit and meowed coolly "Luna, that she-cat up there is a traitor. I think Drought should do his work."
