Jesse grinned wildly, crouching low and wagging his tail, pale yellow eyes were full of energy and mischief. The grey and black male jumped back as a massive clawed paw swung merely inches away from his face. The feeling of being so close to injury made his heart race faster, threatening to beat right out of his rib cage. Jesse dashed around the furious beast, howling and laughing as he went. "C'mon, Chubby, you ain't got all day!" The bear roared in response and aimed another blow to his flank. Jesse waited until the tips of his claws were almost touching his fur before pulling away and changing positions again. His salmon tongue rolled out of his mouth, short pants pushed out of his lungs. "Tsk, tsk, tsk, you gotta be better than that, yeah?" Jesse continued to taunt. The dangerous dance kept going on between the two brutes, with Jesse dodging every blow and every bite and the bear getting more aggravated by the second. Jesse, although enjoying the activity immensely, was quickly getting bored. If someone had joined him, or maybe the bear caught him off guard, then maybe things would spice up a little more. But, he wasn't that lucky was he? Makoce

Makoce padded among the trees, neck bent. Her bright eyes were focused ahead of her, a grin stretching across her muzzle. It felt so good to be alone sometimes, without the constant company of other wolves. Sometimes, she felt as if her pack was pressing her. She had the large burden of being a shaman, and each time she failed to heal one, it seemed to her as if she had failed her pack. She didn't want any one to die or fall ill.
A roar caused the red female's ears to prick. Her orange-brown eyes danced with curiosity. A bear, huh? She recognized the sound, but she had never encountered one. She had heard they were huge, but how huge? She broke into a run, weaving among the trees until she broke out into a small clearing. A bear and a wolf stood before her, fighting it seemed. Though, something seemed odd. The wolf seemed to be enjoying the fight. But why? He could be killed. A snarl replaced her wild grin, and she glared at the bear. No matter if he was enjoying it or not, this insane wolf could be killed. And she wasn't about to let that happen.
She leapt from the trees behind the bear, a low growl coming from her throat. She slashed at its hindquarters, though she was afraid it didn't do much but make the beast angry. "Take that, you ugly beast." She muttered. As the bear turned towards her, she jumped back. She cursed under her breath. It seemed to focus on the two wolves who were side by side, an angry snarl upon its face. "What are you, an idiot?" She asked, rolling her eyes, though not turning towards the other wolf.

Jesse grinned as a blur of reddish-brown fur passed by his peripheral vision. The adventurous lupine whooped in delight and ducked down just in time to avoid a painful blow to the head. He whipped his head to face the bear, and shouted, "You're getting better there, you big lunk of fat, but not good enough!" Jesse bounded off again, and allowed himself to take a short rest whilst the stranger - a female, he noted - distracted the bear. He thought that she had the same idea as him, but it seemed that they had different meanings on the situation. She was hitting the bear, making it angrier and making it lash out more. Jesse winced at that. "Don't hit it unless you want a death sentence! And I'd hate to have that pretty face mangled."
Rolling his shoulders, Jesse sprang back into action, falling into step beside Makoce. He flashed her a chaotic grin. "Me, an idiot? You hurt me so, princess," he laughed, feigning shock and hurt before winking at her and running away. "Head's up, wolfy!" he said to Makoce, warning her of the incoming attack from the bear.

Makoce twitched an ear at the male's taunting. He might as well be dead - he was just going to make the brute angry, and an angry bear was surely not a pretty sight. She glanced at the male for a moment, when the bear wasn't paying attention, to look him over. His size was average, his coat different hues of grays, blacks, whites, and copper. "I'm afraid your the one who wants a death sentence." She muttered, eyes narrowed in concentration. She watched the bear carefully, trying to figure out it's next move. The two wolves were small and quick on their feet, while the bear was big and clumsy. Not to mention, they were a lot more intelligent - well, at least she was. But still, a blow from the thing could kill any wolf. The red wolf gave a huff at his comments, choosing not to reply. It would just provoke more comments from his large mouth. His heads up was appreciated, though, and she danced away on small, quick paws as the bear lumbered towards her, small beady eyes twinkling with anger. Jesse snorted at her comment about him being the one wanting a death sentence. This she-wolf had an attitude on her, alright, and Jesse was more than ecstatic to have encountered her. "Ah, you never know! But maybe if you let me take you out for a walk, I'll try not to get myself killed, yeah?" he called over jokingly when he got the time in between jumping from place to place.
The grey wolf crouched down, his rump in the air in a playful manner. His salmon tongue rolled out of his mouth, chest heaving with every exhilarated breath that was pushed out of his lungs. He cast a short glance at the red female, checking to see if she was being careful. Jesse himself was used to this kind of thing, but he couldn't say the same for her.
Jesse picked himself up and nipped at the bear's leg before darting away, chortling. "Hey, wolfy, what's your name?" He asked Makoce as he momentarily stopped beside her.

"A walk? Are you asking me to go on a walk with you?" The female questioned. "Fine." She huffed. She wasn't sure if she would enjoy this walk or not, or even why they were thinking of such things whilst fighting a bear. Makoce fell back as Jesse moved forward, nipping at the bear's heels. It was odd how wolves knew exactly how to fight together as a team, even if they had never met. She supposed it was just the way with wolves. "Hey, wolfy, what's your name?" She ignored him, leaping forward to grab a hold of the bear's thick fur in her mouth, and wrench her head back. She leapt away with a chunk of brown hairs, which she spat out on the ground. The bear roared with pain. "It's definitely not Wolfy." She replied, casting him a look of amusement. "Makoce." She barked, lowering herself closer to the ground. The bear looked back and forth between the two, trying to decide whom to attack first. "You?" THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. Jesse's head popped up from behind the bear, dangerously close to it as he smiled toothily at Makoce. "Why not?" he barked back. The beast noticed the canine right behind it and turned. Unfortunately, Jesse was far too close to get out of the way fast enough. The feeling of claws digging into his side made him cry out. He gritted his teeth and managed to dart away before the bear could deal any more attacks on him. "Hitting is rude, chubby!" he scolded the creature whilst bounding away. Head pounding with the pain, Jesse fell back next to Makoce. Despite the moderately large wound on his left flank, Jesse was still very much upbeat and ready to take on the bear. "Well, uh, as soon as I fix myself up, we'll go to the mountains, yeah?"
"By the way, Makoce is a pretty name. Is that like a flower or something?" He nodded his head once, letting Makoce distract the bear in place of him. It was pretty strange, how they seemed to act like clockwork, together and in perfect sync with each other. They barely knew each other, but maybe it was in a wolf's nature to be able to cooperate when needed. Mentally shrugging, the male licked at his wound, momentarily wincing. He needed to get cobwebs and the right herbs if he didn't want it infected. Makoce's voice rang in his ears, and he looked up. "Me? Oh, my name's Jesse~ Not to be mistaken for a girl's name, of course!"

Makoce watched, wincing as the bear landed a blow on the male's side. The beast seemed to focus now, and had more control over its moves. It was being careful and observant, and very angry. She took a moment to glance at the other wolf. "Yeah, sure. Fine." She replied, eyes darting to his open side. "I can fix you up later, if you'd like, considering I'm a shaman." She barked smoothly, nodding to the bleeding wound in his side. She flashed him a grin. "Thanks. No, it means 'earth'. I don't know why my mother named me such a thing, but I reckon there is some reason for her naming me that." She shrugged, turning back to the bear. She leapt up, nipping at its muzzle. It sent a blow with its paw toward her head, and she ducked in one, smooth motion, her ear getting a small nick. "Jesse, ah. Mind if I call ya Jess?" She called back to him. "Let's drive this thing away, yeah?" THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. THIRD, EVEN IF IT HURTS, TO NOT CALL YOUR NAME AND LOOK FOR YOUR WARM HANDS. Jesse shook his head, declining her offer. "You're not the only shaman around, princess. I know a thing or two, myself," he replied coolly, trying his best to ignore the strong throbbing on his side. He watched in slight fascination as Makoce seemed to dance about the bear, dodging and striking. But the moment the bear had nicked her ear, Jesse snapped out of his trance and made sure to back her up and land a few scratches and bites here and there too. "Earth, huh? Maybe because you're red? Although I don't know if there's actually red dirt, but hey, you never know!"
Jesse gritted his teeth together and bit the bear's tail, the pain on his side combating with his energy to keep up with the massive brown creature. Maybe it was time to fall back, after all, he didn't really want another injury, much less endanger Makoce too. "Jess? Are you deliberately trying to make me sound like a girl? Pfft, fine, but only you, yeah? I can't imagine my pride if anybody else called me that." With a joking roll of his eyes, Jesse began to retreat back into the undergrowth. if they could outrun it, confuse it in the midst of trees and foliage, they might just have a chance to escape.
"Makoce, c'mon, babe, let's go!" he barked sharply before turning and running as fast as his wound allowed him to. The sticky liquid felt hot and uncomfortable, and he knew he shouldn't even be running out of all things, but they had to rid themselves of that bear. That was enough fun and games for today.

The female snorted. "Not sure if 'a thing or two' will do much to help that," she barked, nodding towards his side. "Nah, you'll need my help." She finished, giving a nod of finality. Her ear was bleeding freely by now. It surprised her how much a single ear could bleed, but that it did. Trickles of blood ran through the thick fur on the back of her ear and down her jaw. She shook her head in frustration, a short growl escaping her maw. Here she was, annoyed over a small cut in her ear, while Jesse here had a large gash in his side which was bleeding far more and could cause him to, possibly, die of blood-loss. "Of course there's red dirt! What, were you born yesterday? Of course, my name could have come from how I use plants to heal, though I doubt my parents would know I would so such a thing. Perhaps they just liked the name." She gave a shrug. "And why are you called Jesse, little girly?" She grinned. The bear looked back and forth between the conversing pair, and she took the chance to swipe at its muzzle. It snapped its jaws towards her, pulling a chunk of her own fur out. When Jesse spoke once more, she gave a short, quick laugh. "Maybe." "Makoce, c'mon, babe, let's go!" She nodded, turning away from the bear and following the other wolf. Her side stunk where a patch of fur was missing, and the blood was beginning to crust her ear. They raced through the undergrowth, and, thankfully, her thick pelt prevented her body from becoming scratched up due to thorns. A few crashes sounded behind them, indicating that the bear was making an attempt to follow, but the sounds soon disappeared. THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. Jesse wasn't going to protest anymore. He was a shaman's apprentice and he knew perfectly well how to treat his own wounds, but Makoce's help would help him recover more quickly. After all, two heads were better than one. That and the red female's stubbornness was something that Jesse didn't want to get in the way of. "Whatever you say, Makoce," he complied. Whilst taking short glances over to her, he noticed how her ear was starting to bleed more steadily, and thought, You help me fix my side and I'll help you with that ear. I'd rather not want you half-deaf.
"Of course there's red dirt! What, were you born yesterday? Of course, my name could have come from how I use plants to heal, though I doubt my parents would know I would so such a thing. Perhaps they just liked the name." Jesse shrugged defensively. "Hey, how am I supposed to know?! I've lived here all my life and I don't think I've ever seen red dirt before." Jesse yelped a little and jumped back, rearing his head as a large brown paw narrowly missed his face. Heart pounding, the young male clamped his jaws over the offending limb and quickly released it. The howl of pain he had received had Jesse grinning deviously. "Yeah, you better! Shows you not to mess up my face!" Over the mad roaring and his pants, Jesse heard Makoce's teasing voice saying, "And why are you called Jesse, little girly?" "I don't know, you think I had a say in that? 'Oh hey mom, before you give birth to me, don't call me Jesse 'cause it's girly!' Nope, no idea why my mother ever gave me that name."
As they ran through the undergrowth, Jesse could hear the bear crashing after them, but after they took several turns and twists, the sound had receded and soon dispersed altogether. The grey wolf allowed his body to fall to the ground, sneezing as the dust billowed up. The adrenaline took its leave from his body, and Jesse was left with immense pain. Without the distraction of the bear, Jesse could only think about how agonizing the gash on his side was. "Ow.. Dang, that has got to leave a mark."
