Makoce
One step, two steps. He grunted with every one. He lifted his poor, leg. If he just limped, Yechta wouldn't know. He stood on the beautiful tundras of his pack, red and yellow flowers blooming as far as the eye could see. He wrinkled his nose. The scent of pollen was awfully overwhelming. He took big jumping steps, barging his way through the thousands of tall stalks. It wasn't the most efficient territory.
And there was a shape amongst the petals. At first he dropped low. At least there was munch cover among these flowers. Usually he would have slunk away, but today, he was power-drunk. He stood up and approached proudly. He snarled, the round ripping through the eery silence. He stood behind the trespassing shape (well, not really a trespasser. He had a small pack, and was not obliged to the whole of the tundra. He was just too proud to admit it). He didn't put his bad leg down though. He was stronger on three legs still.
" Who goes there? "

-- new posting template! -- The red female padded across barren land. By now all the snow had been melted by the heat of the sun, and she longed for its cold texture. How she wanted to roll in he he snow. But once winter came rolling on by again, it would be too cold to do such a thing. As was the way of nature. Makoce raised her head as she spotted flowers. Red, yellow, pink, orange, a range of hues and sizes. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her. It was as if it was a sea of flowers, moving in the wind as waves would. It's gorgeous… She thought, wondering why she had never come across this area. Golden-orange eyes widened. The scent of wolf caught in her nostrils, and she searched the area for a wolf. Perhaps she was trespassing on territory? She'd have to announce this to Craven, her leader. "Who goes there?" The female, startled, whirled around and came face to face with a large black male who seemed to have his share of fierce battles. She stood like that for a moment, a look of shock on her face, taking in the wolf. The shock diminished soon, though, and she stood straight. "I am Makoce, Shaman of the Bete Noir." She replied, forcing her voice into a calm tone. "And you?" THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. " Rueff, alpha male of the Amaryllis Pack. Is your pack... nearby? "
As much as he loved a good competition, he didn't want to endanger the small community he was harbouring amongst these painfully beautiful fields. He wrinkled his nose, trying not to cough as his lungs filled with golden flecks of pollen. He wished he never let Yechta use her current territory for the pack's home. Only small prey, like field mice and rabbits reside in these expanses of tundra. Larger prey stumble across the perimeters of the flowers, only straying into the edges of the golden sea, to eat the flowers. He was out on one of his regular checks for a herd, straying past his own border to look.
However, whatever this femme was doing out here was a mystery to him.

An alpha, eh? The red-pelted female thought. She gave a little shake of her pelt, loosening a few pieces of soil that had been caught in the strands. She studied the dark wolf before her, narrowing her amber-gold eyes in thought. "Your pack is named after a flower, yeah? Who chose the name?" She supposed the name was fitting, but she still found it slightly odd. "Is your pack… nearby?" She hesitated for a moment. If she gave off the location of her pack, she could be endangering her pack-mates by basically giving this Amaryllis pack directions. She shrugged. "Nah, not really. I was just walking." She barked softly, giving him a small smile. She cocked her head, ears perked and let her gaze wander across the field of flowers. "I'm supposing this is your territory? Considering the name works with the area. It's quite beautiful, actually." She returned her eyes to Rueff. "So, Rueff, how is it? Being an alpha, I mean." " So it's the name of a flower? I'm not really the kind of person to know that. So yeah, I didn't choose the name. The alpha female did, this is her old territory. She's a flower-power, Shaman-y thing. Yechta. She is kinda the founder. She's nice, and I don't think people'd come if it was really my pack "
Rueff chuckled at that. No, he didn't really attract people, did he? There was no use in withholding information from this femme though. If you didn't want to seem weak, you have to radiate confidence.
" Our pack is further in from here. And alpha isn't that great. I'm supposed to be head, but I guess I'm just here to scare people off. Beta tells you what to do, and Advisers make the decisions for you. And Yechta does the rest "
Ahhh, he wished it wasn't true. But alas.

Makoce chuckled at his first words, about not being the kind of person to know the names of flowers. Her ears perked when he mentioned Yechta, though. "A shaman that is also an alpha? Odd. I've never heard of such a thing." She gave a small shrug. "I don't think people would come if it was really my pack." She frowned thoughtfully. "Why not? You don't seem so bad." "Oh? I would like to see this place sometime, if that was possible without being attacked. Your territory sounds as if it would be gorgeous. I'm guessing more flowers. Am I correct?" She gave a small chuckle, but her words were genuine. "Being an alpha seems… the same. The same as the other ranks, I guess. I've never thought about being alpha. I don't think I'd do a very good job." She laughed, the sound ringing around the two. "My alpha is called Craven. He's a bit odd and mysterious, but he isn't a bad leader." "So, are you and this… Yechta mates?" She inquired, internally wincing at the question. It could come off as very nosy, but she was curious. Usually the two alpha's were mates, but Rueff wasn't talking about her as if they were mates. THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. " I'm vicious. See? "
Rueff bared his teeth with a menacing scowl, but his lips started to curl upwards as he tried to suppress a grin from breaking across his face.
" I've never heard of Craven. I've been out of the social ring for a while "
Rueff used to know everyone. He started to list all of the heads of power that he used to know. Kodi, Abrina, Matana, TenderHearted, Amai, HellHound, Khaos, Broken Shadow. All of them, just... gone. He couldn't say he missed any of them.
He frowned at her next comment. He didn't know what he and Yechta were. He just wanted to be there, to somehow protect her, but she didn't seem to want the help. He shrugged
" No, we're not. She found me and fixed me up. And we got close. This pack was her idea, I just tagged along. "

Makoce gave a laugh at his demonstration, pretending to cower in fear. "Oh yes, I must warn everyone not to come near." She barked, giving him a grin. He seemed alright, this Rueff. Rueff. The name itself was odd, but it sounded nice in her mouth. It was easy and simple to say. At his next words, she huffed and rolled her eyes. "Tell me about it." She muttered. She, to, hadn't been around much lately, not had she met many of her species. Rueff was probably the first wolf she had spoken to for… four months. At the least. She wasn't one to get around much, especially since her position was so demanding. But she enjoyed chatting with others and creating new allies, especially of other packs. That way, it made her feel as if she was actually doing Bete Noir some good. Makoce listened, tilting her head. Fixed him up? She thought, confused. Her eyes searched his body, landing on the leg. It seemed as if he wasn't putting weight on it. She couldn't help but be curious. "Ah, I see. She seems kind." She looked back up at him, and smiled. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but what happened to your leg? I specialize in injuries and sickness, you see. As any shaman would." She gave a small chuckle. Rueff sniffed sourly.
" It was a badly picked fight on my side. Local psycho and her rookie. One held me by the leg, whilst the other attacked my face. And I tried to get away. I think I ripped some muscle, and they damaged some nerves. And by some miracle I survived to tell the tale. But I couldn't walk, couldn't catch prey. So I scavenged. And after about a year of doing it, and nearly a fortnight of not eating Yechta saw me. I think the idea she used was to put my leg on snow to reduce swelling whilst she worked, and she moved it to build up the lost muscle. I don't really know about this stuff though "
He flattened his ear to his skull. He hated that battle, but what he hated more was being indebted to Yechta

Makoce listened, russet ears perked. Throughout the short story, she nodded, to show Rueff she was following along. But when he finished, she couldn't help but shudder. "That sounds… horrible." She barked. Why would any wolf torture another wolf like that? It was unthought of. She looked down at his leg. Why had the two wolves attacked him? Was it over something silly, like food? Territory? She wouldn't ask. It seemed as if the dark canine had a hard time telling her already. "It was a good call on Yechta's part. Snow can be very useful. It's a shame we don't have any where my pack is settled - the coming of summer has melted it all." She frowned, shaking her head in disappointment. There was nothing that could be done - she'd just have to make do with herbs. THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. Rueff finally sat down. He was getting comfortable around this wolf, which was a feat in itself. He paused, thinking about what to talk about. He didn't want this conversation to fade away. It was awfully hard to find like-minded wolves, and even harder to find ones that can form coherent sentences. A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He can't believe he was going to do this. He was an idiot.
" Truth or dare, please tell me you've heard of it? "

Makoce took a seat. She was quite enjoying the other wolf's company as well. She would like to consider him a friend, but she wasn't sure if Rueff was thinking the same way. Was she annoying to him? Or did he, like herself, enjoy her company? Well, only he knew, she supposed. She smiled. "Of course I've heard of it. What do you take me for, an idiot?" She laughed, a lopsided grin stretching across her muzzle. "Why? Would you like to play? If that's the case, I'd be glad to." THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. ( Eep! Late reply! Where do you get those cool-as templates? )
Rueff grinned. He missed out of pup-hood, and had never actually played before! but the name in itself tells you the basics.
" OK then, Makoce. Truth or Dare? "
He grinned menacingly, feeling the power he held over Makoce's head already. He raised a wolffish brow at her, before pulling himself down onto his haunches, his paws out in front of him in the play position, sticking his stump of a tale in the air to wiggle it madly. His long, pink tongue lolled out of his mouth. He knew he was being ridiculous, but he was enjoying himself at least.
That was a miracle

-- 'tis fine. i'll pm you the links to a few sites. -- Makoce faintly remembered playing the game with her brother as a pup, but it had been such a long time ago. With an amused grin, she copied the black male's pose, her own - full-length - tail waving back and forther, her haunches raised in the air and wagging. She narrowed her eyes. "Dare." She said the word simply, a small, challenging growl coming from her chest. THE FIRST THING I LEARNED IS TO NOT CRY WITHOUT YOU. SECOND, TO NOT WALK ALONE. Rueff raised a curious eyebrow. She was in it to win it. He stood, arching his back, hearing the satisfying crack of his back. He paused, and frowned. He'd set her something impossible. Or possible, if she was good enough. He looked around and saw a tree, a pine tree, with a thick trunk, the first branch relatively low. He wasn't awfully good at this game.
" Climb that tree "
He grinned. He had no idea if Makoce could actually do it or not. He knew he couldn't.
