139 words | Fallenpaw rolled onto her side, her paw flopping across her face. A muffled groan escaped her maw, sunlight slanting into her eyes. She opened them in a squint, removing her paw. It would be slightly hard to get used to but oh well. She let a large yawn open her jaws, and she could've sworn her jaw had been unhinged.
Movement caught her eye, and she turned her head to see another apprentice rising from his nest. She gave him a tiny smile, turning her head back as she began grooming herself. Maybe the smile hadn't been such a grand idea. It appeared he was making his way towards her. great. But instead of saying such a thing, she turned her head and gave him another small smile, not sure if she should say anything.

Grovepaw thought that he had grown out of his sickly nature, but apparently even in greenleaf, sickness seemed to like him. The tom had just come back from the medicine cats' den the day before, and he was sentenced to stay in the apprentices' den for a day or two. It was only a cold, but apparently for Grovepaw it was potentially dangerous.
Sneezing a little, the spotted tom rose from his nest, yellow eyes seeking for someone to talk to. He spotted a grey lynx point female not far from him, and smiling back at her, Grovepaw padded towards her. "Hello. You're probably one of the older apprentices, huh?" he mewed, taking a seat a few mouse-lengths away from her.

116 words | Fallenpaw watched as the spotted male took a seat beside her and began speaking. She rose to her paws and sat in her warm, mossy nest, studying the younger tom. "Huh? O-oh, yeah. I'm almost a warrior." she explained, nodding, then gave a small shrug. It was true - the only problem was that her mentor, Dog, hadn't been training her, causing her to need a new mentor for her assessment.
The spotted tom was clearly younger. And he didn't look to good. She had heard him sneezing earlier - perhaps he was sick? But why would anyone be sick at a time like this? Manners, Fallenpaw. She reminded herself. "Oh, uh, right. I'm Fallenpaw."

"Huh? O-oh, yeah. I'm almost a warrior." Grovepaw nodded his head. "I still have a long way to go, myself, but I'm sure you'll be a great warrior. Being patient enough to go through what I suspect is a long apprenticeship kind of gives that away, right?" An easy chuckle wound its way out of his maw, warm and soft-spoken. "So, if you don't mind me asking, who's your mentor?" Grovepaw was eager to know more about Fallenpaw, and maybe become good friends with the she-cat, but he was a little reluctant to give away information about himself. But, he would have to do that one way or another.
"It's nice to meet you, Fallenpaw. My name's Grovepaw," he answered with a wider grin. A draft pushed its way into the den, causing the tom to shiver a little too much and for his short spotted fur to fluff up. When it died down, he grinned sheepishly at the she-cat. "Sorry about that, I'm not quite as resilient with the weather as other cats."

209 words | Fallenpaw gave a small smile of appreciation. She was growing slightly more comfortable with this apprentice - he seemed awfully nice and didn't seem to be judging her. "I suppose so, thank you." after a moment, she added, "You'll be a great warrior too." Would they be friends? Best friends? Acquaintances? She didn't know what the future held, but she wanted to badly. Enemies? The thought was horrible. She didn't think it was possible with this male.
When he asked about her mentor, she looked up at him instead of at her paws. "His name is Dog, but he stopped training me. So I-I think I'm getting a new one." she replied. "How about you?" she inquired softly, tilting her head.
Grovepaw. It was a nice name, she thought. Unlike mine. She disliked her name. It made her seem like she had fallen, or something ridiculous like that. Why had her mother named her that? She nodded in agreement when he said 'nice to meet you'. She was a tiny bit surprised when he began shivering, but she didn't show it on her face besides her eyes widening a fraction of an inch. "It's okay." she said in a small voice, turning a smile up at him.

Grovepaw shook his head. "It's no problem at all," he said with a purr rumbling in his throat. "You'll be a great warrior too." Grovepaw smiled a little. He wanted to believe that he'd be a great warrior, but he had to face the facts - he wasn't physically capable and he doubted he ever would be. With his constant relapse of sickness and his willowy form, it was surprising that his mother, Quickfox, ever allowed him to become an apprentice. "Ah, I doubt that, but thank you anyways."
Dog? The loner Dog? Hm, he seems to be getting used to clan life then, I suppose, he pondered before nodding his head. "Don't worry about that. A lot of apprentices seem to be going through the same thing, so you're not alone," he reassured the lynx point female. "Oh, my mentor? Oh, um, my mentor.. is Beechstar." Grovepaw had never been comfortable telling other people about having the leader as a mentor. He was afraid that they'd either envy him or think that he was some kind of really talented car to be able to have Beechstar as a mentor. The spotted cat mentally scoffed a laugh at the latter.
"It's okay." Grove smiled his thanks. "I, uh, don't really fair well in - well, actually in any kind of weather, so I do apologize if I look a little odd to you. I wasn't exactly born with the best of health."

238 words | Fallenpaw frowned at Grovepaw. Huh? she hadn't the faintest idea of why anyone would have said that about themselves. Perhaps he was just seeking attention an praise? But he seemed genuine. "Why would you say such a thing? I'm sure you will." She said confidently. The female gave him a nod, hoping that he understood that he would be a good warrior. He had to be. They could be warriors together! They could hunt and patrol together, and all of the other duties assigned to the adults. It would be great.
She nodded at his next words. "I guess so." She shrugged. "Oh, my mentor? Oh, um, my mentor… is Beechstar." She tilted her head. Why is he all the sudden talking like me? He has nothing to be shy about. It would be cool to have the leader as a mentor. She thought. "That's really cool. Is he good?" She asked curiously, giving him a kind smile.
He didn't look at all odd to her. Maybe a little thin, but it wasn't bad. Wasn't born with the best of health. He did seem sick. But it appeared he only had a cold, and it did nothing to annoy her. It wasn't his fault either. "It's fine. I don't mind. Besides, you look perfectly normal. But we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." she meowed, unsure if it was a sensitive topic. |
