[private for waspwing<3] Littlefox shyly peeked into the elders' den in search of her former mentor. Guilt and regret was cloaked over every fiber of her being after what had just happened the other day. "Waspwing? Can we talk for a moment?" she asked quietly. Greenflare's words still burned into her mind.
"Why didn't you do anything?!" "It's all their fault." "They did nothing."
Tail twitching with anxiety, she wondered if talking to her former mentor would bring her comfort and reassurance. This was the first time Littlefox had ever failed to save someone, even back when she was just an apprentice. And needless to say, she wasn't taking it very well.

Waspwing had been lightly dozing when Littlefox entered the den. Her words woke him immediately, and for once he wasn't annoyed by the disturbance of his slumber. Ever since Littlepool's death he had been hoping more cats would visit him, especially cats like Littlefox.
He already knew why she was here. It wasn't hard to guess. But he wasn't looking forward to the conversation. Death had never been something he was good at talking about. He slowly sat up, resting his bad leg in an awkward position to keep it comfortable. He could see all of the raw emotion in her eyes, and for a second he felt as if he were looking at a frightened kitten. He sighed and nodded his head.
"Hello Littlefox. What did you need?"

Littlefox avoided his gaze completely and simply stared at her paws. "I-i, uh..." she stuttered at first and trailed off to prevent her voice from cracking. It was as if she were the same shy, awkward, soft-spoken little apprentice she was before. "About... the other day. Greenflare... he..."
What if he thinks the same? I don't recall Waspwing ever losing a patient before. Am I really just that bad? Dark thoughts continued to cloud her mind and made her give an inaudible sigh. "Uh. W-what do you think? I mean about what happened the other day."

Waspwing stared ahead at her blankly. He felt bad for her, but at the same time he was annoyed that she was letting such emotions overcome her. He gave out yet another sigh, and got to his paws. "Here, we're going on a walk." He said, padding past her and out into the camp.
He had never lost a patient. But, then again, he had never faced something as bad as Littlepool's scenario. The worst he had ever experienced was an infected wound after a battle with Fireclan, or perhaps Deathclan. Fernpelt had helped him treat the cat, and they had survived. He had not taken that well.
After he walked for a minute he turned back to his former apprentice, cocking his head to the left. "Did you do everything for her?" Was all he asked her, voice hushed.

Getting to her paws as he brushed past her, she followed him quickly. Finally he spoke again. At this point she wasn't even sure if she had done everything she could; her doubt was getting the best of her again. But she knew better than to think Waspwing would accept such nonsense.
"Yes, I think. By the time we found her she had already lost so much blood. A-and there wasn't enough cobweb! I couldn't have possibly treated her until I stopped the bleeding, but it just wouldn't..." she trailed off again to recollect herself. "I keep telling myself it couldn't be helped, and I want to set a good example for Mintfrost! But.. I feel like there was still something I could have done, anything."

Waspwing nodded his head slowly. He had kept the same blank expression throughout her entire little ramble. Not to look tough, but to hold back another set of sobs. He still wasn't over Littlepool's death, and hearing about how she died was not helping him whatsoever. At least Littlefox had done well.
"Don't feel bad, then. Medicine Cats are healers, not miracle workers. We can only do as well as time and herbs let us, and if we don't have the herbs, or the time, there is nothing we can do." He said calmly, but his tone was riddled with dread. He had always wished he had magical powers so he could just make infections go away, or wounds instantly heal.
He started walking again, but this time he actually began to talk while he walked. "Greenflare was going to be the father to Littlepool's kits, was he not? No doubt his grief is blinding him from his senses, and therefor he is wrongfully blaming you for her death." He said, giving a small shrug. "Let time pass. Eventually he'll realize you and Mintfrost did everything you could, and he'll at least get these thoughts out of his head. But I wouldn't suggest you wait and see if he becomes your new best bud." He said, trying to bring in just a little humor in the end.

She took in his words, getting a bit of reassurance from them. She didn't answer, only continued to stare at her paws. As he began walking again, she followed slowly gently swishing her tail in thought, and cracked a tiny smile at his last statement.
After a few moments of walking in comfortable silence she spoke up again. "I wish I could have known her better." she whispered. Whether he heard her or not, Littlefox didn't mind. Maybe it was better that he hadn't.

Waspwing was truly only walking around the camp's outer walls, and he could tell that their lap was soon to be over. He stopped when Littlefox spoke again, and he lowered his head to look at his paws. "Yes she was...Very nice, and one darkpool of a mother." He said before padding back to the camp.
Once he reached the entrance he looked back and smiled at Littlefox. "Well, unless you have something else you need from me, this is our final stop." He said, cocking his head to the side again.
