@stygian
The black wolf casually walked along, hoping to find some prey. He hadn't eaten recently, and was growing weak. He had no interest in joining a pack, so he was alone. Suddenly, the leaves to his left began to shake, and out came a rabbit. He silently padded towards it, and when he was within striking range, a twig snapped and the rabbit ran off. Letting out a frustrated sigh, he looked around to see what caused the noise. "Who's there?" He growled.

Though he didn't often hunt, hunger had recently begun to gnaw at Stygian, so he'd spent several hours tracking down something to eat that day. He hadn't had any luck so far... but as he was padding towards the scent of another wolf to see who it might be, a panicked rabbit suddenly burst out of the undergrowth in front of him. The Eurasian wolf, somewhat startled, managed to lunge and sink his fangs into its throat.
The sharp tang of rabbit blood filled his mouth as he continued to walk towards the other wolf's scent. At last, Darkness came into sight, and Sty dropped his catch so that he could speak.
"Is this yours?"

Darkness looked to find the rabbit, only to see that another wolf had it. The wolf didn't look familiar, nor could he remember his scent from anywhere. When the wolf asked the question, Darkness nodded. "Yes, it is." He answered. He circled around the wolf and then sat down. "You don't look familiar. I'm Darkness."

A small smirk curled at the corner of his muzzle. "Ah. Well, I'll make you a little deal; since you unintentionally chased it towards me and I killed it, we'll split the the prize." With a swift snap of his jaws, the hare had been divided into two roughly equal pieces. Sty grabbed his half and sat down to munch on it.
"The name's Stygian. You know, Darkness, I know most wolves by face if not by name, but I don't think I've seen you in this forest before. New?"

Darkness nodded his head to the deal. "Fine." He barked. He took his half of the rabbit and bit into it, savoring it's taste. He hadn't eaten in so long, it felt good to finally have a meal. "Yes, I am new. I came here from the mountains."
(Is that okay to be part of his history?) (I am slowly losing my muse)

| Yeah, as long as you didn't mean the IceClan area of the mountain range. |
He wasn't sure whether Darkness was completely satisfied with only receiving half of the prey, as the rabbit wasn't too huge to start with. But Stygian considered it fair. They could always go back to hunting if the meat didn't satiate their hunger.
"That would explain it. Are there other wolves up there, and what's it like?" The black canine was curious to hear about these mountains; he had never been there.

Darkness had to think about life in the mountains. "Well, it's very rocky and dry. More towards the top it gets very cold. There isn't the prey you would see down here, up in the mountains there was mostly small rodents and birds." He explained. "And as for the wolves, there were many, but they all seemed to start disappearing."

Devouring the rest of his rabbit half, he listened with a slight frown. "Doesn't sound like my sort of place. Maybe wolves started to disappear because of a lack of good prey. Small animals are okay every so often, but I prefer larger game like deer." It was fun to spend time tracking a herd and calculating exactly which members would be easy to take down.

Darkness nodded in agreement. "I got tired of eating small animals, so I came down here after hearing about the big game such as deer." He told Stygian. "Say, I haven't had much to eat during the time I was here. Maybe we could try our luck and track down some deer?"

The large male grinned broadly as he stood up. "That sounds good to me. I know of a nearby glade where a herd has been grazing recently; we could try there." Sty set off at a trot, trusting his new hunting partner to follow closely as he wove through the trees.

Darkness dipped his head and started to follow Stygian. Soon enough, he heard the stomping of hooves. He crouched down, hoping to hide himself in the grass. "I've never hunted deer before! What do I do?" He asked. Stygian seemed like an experienced wolf, being that he knew where to find deer and he had lived in the forest for a long time.

The somewhat-large glade soon came into sight. Sty could smell the large animals, and hid himself in the cover of the undergrowth at the very edge of the clearing so that he could watch the deer. Flicking his ears toward Darkness, he spoke in a low voice.
"See how some of the deer are particularly old, young, or weak? Keep an eye on them; select a few particular ones that you want to go after. I want you to circle around to the other side of this glade. Just signal to me when you're ready, and I'll frighten the herd towards you. Watch out for the hooves and antlers, though."

Darkness dipped his head. He then circled to the other side of the glade, and selected a particularly big one, but it also looked slow and old. He then gave the signal, a howl. The howl would've probably frightened the deer towards Stygian, but then he could chase them to him.

Stygian had been hoping for something more like a visual signal, as the howl had indeed scared the deer, but he improvised quickly. Bursting from the undergrowth, he snarled and snapped at the deer that were coming towards him, causing them to turn tail and flee in a blind panic. He would have made a great shepherd's dog if these were sheep. The herd rushed towards Darkness. Some of the faster members already vanishing into the bushes around him. Without watching to see if his hunting partner had made a kill, he set off to attack a trailing deer with a bad leg.

Darkness watched as the deer ran towards him. He ran towards the deer that he targeted. He ran towards it, jumping on it and biting it in the neck. He grabbed it with his teeth and dragged it away, being that most of the deer were gone already. He sat down and waited for Stygian to bring back his kill.
