| HAVE YOU ANY IDEA HOW A RAVEN IS LIKE A WRITING DESK...? |
MatanaRueff moaned. How long had he been out for? Hours, surely. His fight had occurred in the hot fires of midday, he was shivering in the frosts just before dawn. His head pounded, and he attempted to lift it to look around, but he dropped it back to the dirt. He sniffed the air, but he could only smell the cool night air, and old blood. He licked his lips, and he tasted the beautiful, coppery taste of Skyla's congealed blood. Cannibalism was like a drug, and an awfully compelling one at that. He thought of the madness in Broken's eyes when she went to open him up and eat him alive with that stick. That thought always repulsed him, but now it was compelling. Very compelling. His throat went dry from the chilly air and he went to breathe, but he yelped faintly. He shifted his head to see a jagged shard of stone imbedded between his ribs. It scraped his lungs every time they inflated until the pain was unbearable. He may be mad, but he wasn't dumb. He would not risk puncturing a lung and dying slowly. So he lay there, and tried not to breathe. Yet the lack of oxygen only made his head worse. The pounding headache became unbearable, all his ears could hear was a horrible ringing noise that rattled through his skull. He closed his eyes and took another shallow breath. Ahh, the pain. He wished for the intense madness that would make it go away, but it seems his concussion had brought him clarity. Probably temporary, but he was not appreciating the favour. So he lay there, trying not to breathe, not hearing, not seeing, not moving. Trapped in his own body, resembling a dead man.

NO I CAN'T SLOW DOWN I CAN'T HOLD BACK THOUGH YOU KNOW I WISH I COULD NO THERE AIN'T NO REST FOR THE WICKED UNTIL WE CLOSE OUR EYES FOR GOOD A black shadow walked along an empty path, no another wolf insight. Her honey brown eyes gazed blankly at the dirt road in front of her. No grass grew upon this road meaning many walks of life must have traveled this path before. Did they travel this road alone or did they travel along side another? Looking at her massive black paws she saw a pair of matching paws. Looking up she saw a handsome face that made her heart feel light and free, never longing for something so great. Yet, the scared figure that she loved so much began to fade away. Her once light heart became heavy and felt it would break through her chest. That's right, Rueff was gone.
The stupid flower wolfs word finally got to Matana and she left. Yechta claimed that Rue was happy and she was only causing him pain. Those few nights they has meet and talked seemed like nothing that she once loved. He was pulling him away from something he wanted, the power he had gained. He as no longer the omega that she once pushed around, he was a strong alpha. What did Matana have to offer him? She was just a lone wolf who broke his heart to many times that she could never have another chance.
As she was lost in her mind the scent of crimson iron reached her nose. The rock heart began to beat at an abnormal rate. Her mind became clouded with fear, the scent was familiar to familiar she feared she was wrong. Her massive heavy paws picked up one right after another until she was in full sprint.
When she came upon the holder of the scent she froze, her nightmare had come true. With weak but stiff legs she approached the body of the one she loved. There was no rise and fall of his stomach that indicated that he was no longer breathing. Lowering her charcoal nose to his face she tried to give him a little nudge, "Rue.... Rue my love. Please say something to me. Rue." Matana's eyes began to become fogged with salty tears and she sob.

Rueff tried dragging in another breath, but it was shallow, not enough to raise his chest as a sign of breathing. And even that faint breath of air made the stone scrape the delicate tissue of his lung. He seized up, trying to stay perfectly still and not risk his life any more, stiff like an old corpse
His eyes were closed, and his ears felt blocked. All he could hear was the rushing of his blood over his eardrum. But he could smell. And he smelt another wolf, a wolf he automatically knew the name of without giving it a second thought. And more importantly, he could smell her life. That liquid gold that pumped through her veins, that liquid gold that would taste like bronze or copper or something rich and wonderful. He was torn between sanity and madness, between caring she was there... or not

✗how did we survive the paper scars✗ - - - - - - - - - - - -✗you said you're sorry✗ When he made no signs of life, even after her pathetic cry to him, she lowered his wet charcoal nose towards his. The wet salty tears that covered his eyes finally began to stream down her ugly black furred face. Just resting beside what she thought was the dead body of the only male she ever really loved, she cried deep tears of pain. Inside, she was being torn bit by bit, the realization finally coming and sweeping upon her. This was far worse then the cold shoulder that he gave her, she longed to feel that pain once more. Knowing he was moving and alive would have been enough. She could have wondered around the world, alone, with the memories they had together in Kodi's pack. The short young love before she went and shattered it all.
Turning her now red and puffy honey brown eyes towards Rueff's body, she gazed at it. He did look terrible, but she could still see the features she loved about him. He had grown since his days an an omega, he gained a lot of scars too. He had grown even more attractive to her. As to why she longed for him so much, it was unknown. If you asked her to tell all the reason she loved him, she could tell you nothing. It was an unknown force that drew her to him. A deep longing that drove her insane. Sane. Such a simple word. Was she ever sane? Was he? Maybe that was why she loved him? A quality that they shared and connected them. Who knows.
"Rue... Do you remember back in Kodi's pack. When we meet. I always look down on you, I thought you were weak and pathetic because you were an omega. Yet, the more time I spent teasing you, the more I found myself wanting to call you my own. When I found out they you and stupid heat female were getting close, I felt sick. I wanted to tear her to shreds and show you her still heart in my paws. I wanted you to know that you could belong to no other but me. Maybe, I let the thought go to my head. When I needed someone to fall upon you always seemed to be there. When I left and you saved me, I figured you would do the same no matter what."
Letting out a long sigh that seemed to cut her throat with knives, she took in a deep painful breath.
"I'm sorry Rue. I should have never left, I see that now. You needed me and I was never around to catch you. I came to the idea that you wanted me gone, that the flower sniffer could take care of you, better then I could. I was wrong again. I left you when you needed me the most, now look what's become of you. I would rather I be dead then you, you could go on living. Unlike me. I'm nothing Rue, nothing without you. Did you know that?"
Matana fell silent and waited for a sign, anything.
"Rue....Rue, Rue, Rue, Rue... Please Rue!"

Rueff struggled to decipher the warbled words, but it was like someone chiding him through water, expecting him to hear. His head suddenly climaxed and he wanted to yelp or groan but his throat was dry. As his head split in two he received a sweet blessing as he realised that he could no longer could feel the stony ground beneath him or that painful serrated shard of stone prying his ribs apart and threatening to puncture his lungs. He felt like he was floating, his mind quickly flooding black, the muffled noises of Matana's pleas drowned out. He was unconscious.
This would be the last he would see of Matana for now
