Maplefrost sat in his nest, face half-buried in his paws. The past several days had been one huge nightmare. First the calico elder's mother, Shadefrost, had been murdered by a strange group of violent cats. Then he'd lost one of his best friends, Redstorm. He still wasn't sure how the older tom had died, but he was half-convinced that it was his fault. He had been with the tabby when he'd suddenly gone to join CloudClan.
His family tree might go all over, but most of the Maine Coon's direct family was now either dead or missing. Aside from his mother, Maplefrost's brother and father had been gone for some time. CloudClan only knew where Birdshadow was; he hadn't seen the grey tom since he was a senior warrior. The same went for all of his offspring. They'd disappeared into thin air. As for Hawkstar/Hawktalon... pah. Maplefrost would have preferred if his father were the dead one.
Well, at least he still had Windflurry. Sorta. The other elder was now his sole denmate, and she seemed to prefer spending most of her time alone rather than with her mate. It was disheartening, especially given recent events.
Maplefrost was suddenly jolted out of his thoughts by movement near the den entrance. He looked up, gaze dull, and sighed. "If you've brought prey, don't bother. I'm not hungry. Windflurry might want it, though."

Silverkit had been wandering around the camp and she came across a den she had not seen yet. Curious, she peeked inside of it and saw two old cats, confused of who they were she decided to go further into the den. She stopped when she heard a voice coming from a frail tom in the back of the stuffy den.
She stiffened, "I haven't brought prey, I-I was just wandering around and I found this den that I didn't know existed so..." Her voice trailed off but she snapped back into the point. "What is this den for anyway, is it the den for the extra senior warriors?" She had seen the tom around camp before but never had meet him, she had always thought he was just a really old warrior, but now she was getting the strange thought that he was not a warrior at all. "Is this the old cat den?" She didn't mean for this to come out rude, but it seemed like it did. She quickly ducked her head and shifted her paws nervously. Why did you say that Silver!

The tom grunted as he recognized a kitten. Not what he'd been expecting. Then again... since when did apprentices and warriors stop by to say hello? With a twitch of his ears, Maplefrost mumbled a brief response at Silverkit. "Never mind. Thought you'd be someone else."
He listened in silence when the youngster continued. Guess he shouldn't be surprised that Silverkit didn't even know about him or his den. IceClan elders were always sort of ignored. Hey, great job, you've dedicated your life to serving the Clan! Now you get to retire and be forgotten about. Have fun with all that.
At one point, Maplefrost would've taken offense to being called old, but now the word was simply jaded to him. How ironic. "Yes, this is the elders' den. I live here with my denmates, Windflurry and..." He broke off suddenly, his green gaze suddenly sorrowful. Best not to bring up Redstorm right now. He still wasn't ready to discuss his dead best friend with anyone.

Silverkit flattened her ears to her head as she heard him speak grumpily. Maybe this is the grumpy cat den. she thought as she watched the tom. Just a little bit after she thought that she heard that this was the elders den. Ohhh, that explains a lot. She heard him speak of his den mates and saw that he broke off in sadness, Best not ask about that.
"I've heard the name before. Wait I think I might know your name... If your an elder you must be Maplefrost?" The tom was known to be very respected in the clan, she didn't quite know why, but she figured that he must be an old warrior which would gain you respect.

The old calico nodded slowly. "Indeed I am. I have to say that I'm a little surprised you've even heard the names of my mate and myself. It's not like most cats pay attention to us." He gave a small shrug at this, being resigned to the fact that the elders in IceClan were a tad neglected. When he'd first moved into the den, he'd had to repair it personally.
"So, you know who I am. But who might you be? Curiouskit? Bravekit, perhaps? You know, you actually look as if you're nearly old enough to become an apprentice. I trust that my daughter, Dustpetal, is already thinking about your ceremony..." |

You Guys Should Visit Silverpaw's eyes widened, his daughter was the deputy! That was so cool! She nodded and said, puffing out her chest proudly, "I got my ceremony today! Were you there?" She hoped her answered yes because that would mean the world to her, sure they just meet but still! This cat was amazing!
She kneaded her paws against the proud as she waited, her eyes were wide and sparkling and her tail, and ears were all up straight, this cat was most likely the most popular in the clan for all she knew! She couldn't contain her excitement for much longer, her paws were eager to just start asking random questions, but that would annoy him. Keep it together Silverpaw, calm down. She let out a deep breath and allowed her eyes to go back to normal or as normal as they could get. Silverpaw then flattened her fluffy fur and wrapped her tail neatly around her paws. Way to play it cool. She thought sarcastically.
She made eye contact with the old tom respectfully and finely to top it all off, allowed herself to look interested in the answer as if she really wanted to know but not too bad because that would be immature Thats right, I'm not a kit anymore.. |

Maplefrost yawned and went back to sleep.
| Sorry, but I can't... actually reply to that. Silver was a kit when she started the thread, so she'll still be a kit at the end of it. I don't really care if you get your ceremony while RPing with me, but doing a sudden rank change completely derails the thread. You can edit your response and roleplay Silverkit this time, and then I'll edit mine to properly reply. | |
