Maplefrost could hear the anger in Petalfur's voice, but all he felt was defeat. These Ravens had killed several cats that he loved, and what could he do about it? Absolutely nothing. For one, he was too old to fight well... and even if he had been younger, the rogues were long gone by now anyway.
"If I had to guess, they're just putting on a bit of a show. Trying to become feared. But there's not much that can be done about them now." Sighing, the elder moved to reclaim his nest. Life would be a lot better without those wannabe terrorists...

The Bengal nodded, closing her eyes for a few moments to truly calm herself. "Rogues are stupid," she said at last, opening her eyes and returning her sight to Maplefrost. "They feed off fear that doesn't exist and delight in a victory that is smothered in their own loss and regret. The clan's are intelligent. If they threaten the clans, we'll all join forces and drive them far away. And even if these rogues only attack one clan and threaten that clan's home, the others will fight back. There has always been four clans, and there always will be."

If anything, Maplefrost was a bit of a realist bordering on pessimism. This outburst of optimism from Petalfur just didn't seem right; in fact, embracing blind hope could be a very bad thing. He shook his head slowly before meowing a gravelly response. "Speak for yourself. I've seen DeathClan's leader; he might look like a mindless brute, but he's cunning like a fox. Not all rogues are dumb. I think you're also forgetting that the Clans do not work together; we've warred more times than I care to count, and even now, I'm getting a bad feeling about the mission in RockClan. What motive would any of them have to help IceClan? They're just concerned for their own safety and survival... especially now that leaf-bare is approaching." Maybe it was a little harsh, but this was also what the old Maine Coon knew to be true. He furrowed his cat-brows as he felt pain starting to brew in his skull. Great, a headache; just what he needed to top off the day.

Of course, he was right. Petalfur knew it, but she also knew how powerful hope could be. The Bengal always kept hope close to her heart, and it had always led her through the darkness. But there were somethings that needed more than hope and butterflies. Petalfur nodded again, though her eyes still shone with certainty that they could find a way through the Ravens' attack. "Well, could you at least eat your mouse?" The she-cat begged, pointing her muzzled towards the barely warm prey.

| The plot threads in IceClan are here and here. As far as I know, the Ravens plot is now over for everyone though. |
The elder responded with a huff that he meant to be irritated, but it just sounded tired instead. He was sick of all this conflict. First DeathClan, then the Ravens, and now IceClan's survival possibly hinged on Cloverstar's decision. Why couldn't they just move back to that desert where they'd spent one leaf-bare? It might have been awful there, but at least they'd been away from all of the other feline groups. In retrospect, the whole thing had been a bit like a vacation.
"No," growled Maplefrost quietly. The idea of eating made him feel sick. "I'm not hungry. Give it to Windflurry or Re-" Haha, that's right, there were only two elders now. "... or someone."

What is it with toms? Petalfur thought, shaking her head. All the toms she met had seemed to have something against her, even if they didn't show it. Was it the fact that she was meant to be in the wild? Her thick coat, wide paws, large frame, and quick thinking might have been the reason toms seemed wary or even ignorant around her, but envy was a difficult thing to pinpoint. "Fine," Petalfur sighed, turning to leave. "I just hope you realize how ignorant you're being. You know you need to eat. So just.. Please eat something. Shadefrost wouldn't want to see you like this."

| Whee, super late and lazy. Sorta inactive-ish on Maple. |
Alright, enough was enough. Wasn't he supposed to be respected as an elder? "I said no, and that's final," snapped Maplefrost as he shot a venomous green glare at the warrior. "Now go bother somebody else." With that, he curled into an even tighter ball, fur bristling slightly and tail-tip lashing. Jeez, couldn't a cat be left alone to grieve?

The young she-cat frowned and shook her head slightly, her aqua-green eyes pitying the once great cat. She had looked up to the tom in ways, just by seeing him pass through camp, and to now know that he had been corrupted by his mothers death - and indeed, deaths are painful, so Maplefrost had reason to be far from bliss - tore Petalfur between the contradicting responsibilities of caring for Elders. How are you supposed to show you respect them them when you have to order them to eat!? The cat thought desperately. Perhaps he will when I leave. It was a long shot, she knew, but she didn't see another way. "If you insist," Petalfur replied, watching the tom curl tightly into a ball. "I won't bother you again, even if it's to deal with your bedding. And.. I'm sorry, Maplefrost. But don't let grief and despair engulf you like it once did me." With a flick of her long tail, the Bengal she-cat ducked out of the den and hurried on her not-so-merry way, feeling rather unsatisfied with Maplefrost's condition.
