@eatcheese Rainshadow @anyone else who signs up Vanish flew at high speeds through a large city, swerving at the last second around buildings with elegant twirls, even though he knew full well he could pass right through them if he so chose. A high-pitched laugh escaped from him, swirling away with the currents of air as he imagined the feel of the wind in his fur. Unfortunately, he no longer actually had fur for the wind to blow through due to being a disembodied soul. Oh, well. This was totally worth it. He didn't have a single inkling of where he was, not even the name of the city he was currently zipping through, but he honestly didn't care. Nothing tied him down anymore. Nothing at all. He closed his eyes and dropped. This altitude didn't have the opportunity to play poltergeist to a whole bunch of people.

NOOO! My computer crashed in the middle of typing my reply, and I lost EVERYTHING! This wont be as good as it was ='(
Soft breeze, sheltered cave, cool trickle of mountain water. Pack beside me, calm and happy. Hunter's howl, humans near. Pack alert, battle ready, pups and mothers hidden. Pack attacks, in lead. Bullet flies, in my shoulder, collapse. Mate is beside, mournful cry. Order to flee, pack retreats, black swirls. Death finds hold. NO! I scramble to my paws, heaving and panting. Around me is the trees, and behind me my home. The scent of my pack stains the trees, and their scent is leading away. Sorrow seems to strangle the air, gripping my heart and crushing me to the cold ground. I look down. A she-wolf with a gray pelt, thin black and hazy-white overcoat, brown paws, and green eyes wide open lays at my paws. I thought at first it was my reflection, but why do I feel no pain? A gouge is carved in the she-wolf's shoulder, and blood pool around her, a sticky crimson lake of death. I whimper and look at my own shoulder, which has a similar injury but not quite as noticeable. It was faded, like a scar, but visible. My next thought is of my pack. Should I go and find out if they can see me? Or perhaps tell them I will be fine? No, they would be scarred without their leader, let alone knowing she still haunted the forests. I would become a spooky pups' tale, not a leader who led her pack with respect, trust, and hope. I start running, away from the mountains, wanting to get a feeling for being, well, different. I don't expect it, but my paws lost grip and I float into the air, flipping head over paws, flying through the trees, quite literally. I gain speed and then crash into the soil at the edge of a.. the word came as a city. I stand and shake my pelt, expecting pain but feeling none. I sniff the air and catch the scent of humans, and a growl escapes my throat. Perhaps I can cause some mayhem in this.. city? No, my pack would look down on me with horror. What am I becoming? I have always been the pack leader that found that revenge was not the way to win. You fight when you must and live where it's home. But you don't rip someone to shreds if they disobey. I shake my pelt again and walk along the turf into a street. This time, I'm careful to keep my paws on the ground, relishing the empty feeling. If the human world was always like this, I wonder why our pack didn't live nearby? Behind me a growl. I whip around in time to see a huge.. truck - coming right for me. I yelp and turn to run, but it's too late. But I'm fine. The truck continues on, and I look down at myself. Fine. I'm fine. But I know I'll never survive without learning how to be dead. So, I pad to the side of the street and collapse, hoping to just let things settle in.

(Are you kidding? That was great! ) Vanish had just finished tying two people sitting at a bus stops' shoelaces together with a combination of his teeth and willpower. A lot of willpower. Stupid humans, why did they get the thumbs?! Not bothering to suppress his giggle after admiring his handi- er, toothiwork, he flew over the busy streets as the traffic roared by below him. He considered diving at the back of a gigantic truck and undoing the latch that apparently kept whatever that thing that looked like a giant cat flap closed, but stopped when he saw a wolf laying forlornly on the street corner. Not just any wolf, he realized- she was as dead as he was, the humans bustling right through her. He floated over to the fellow ghost, a frown appearing on his face. "Hey, you. What's up with the face?" Vanish inquired, a little more harshly than intended. He stared disapprovingly at the much larger animal. He couldn't think of a reason why she would feel as unhappy as she seemed to. After all, death is something of a new life. Yeah, you lost some things, and there was no getting those back, but other things were better. Before he panicked in the headlights that fateful night, he had never had a real taste of freedom. Now, he could do just about anything he wanted. His tail twitched as he waited for an answer.

Aww, thanks >.<
Curled up like a cat at the corner of the sidewalk, I let myself drift back to.. how long have I been... dead? How long did it take me to become a-a ghost? I assume a day, since my pack's scent was still around my.. body. It's hard to take in. A pack leader, dead, but still part of the world. I can hardly fathom what my family, my pack, must be feeling. Grief? Despair? Renewal? What if they're rejoicing? I shake the thought from my head. They respected me and loved me. They wouldn't be happy for my death! "Hey, you. What's up with the face?" I sit up, looking at my paws, confused. Am I going nuts now too? But I couldn't be, because when I look up, before me is a tomcat with a glowing green pendant around his neck. He looks down expectantly at me, and I just stare back. I should attack, kill him, but I remember I'm dead and curiosity fills my paws. Can he see me? Can anyone? The last question is proved to be a "no" as a drunken girl with a huge handbag stumbles over the ground where my chest would be, effectively spooking me as she passes directly through me. It especially bothers me that I can't bite her in the heels, even if I tried. I also realize that the cat didn't actually speak, and even if he did, I wouldn't have understood him. So how did I know what he said? I decided to take the cautious side, just to be sure I wouldn't be re-killed or something. "And you would be?" I ask, getting to my paws to show my full height, which was much greater than the cat's. I've also chosen to ignore the question. He doesn't need to know; earn my trust, and perhaps.

Vanish puffed out the fur on his own chest, floating upwards to be at eye level with the wolf, knowing that she likely couldn't do much of anything to hurt him, due to both of them already being dead. Though she could certainly do with an attitude transplant, at least in his opinion. "I'm Vanish, ghost extraordinaire! And I repeat, what's up with the face? You look so sad," he sighed, disappointed that his conversation partner hadn't answered the question. Was she raised by wolves in the middle of nowhere or something equally uncivilized? Well, of course she was, wolves are supposed to be raised by wolves, but that wasn't the point. She did look a bit confused. Maybe she'd just died? That would explain a lot. He continued to stare straight into the wolf's eyes, hoping that she wouldn't keep answering his questions with her own.[/b]

I narrow my eyes. (Assuming you know wolves are extremely large compared to cats, and Sol was on her paws..) This "Vanish" fellow raised himself onto his hind paws so he could attempt at reaching eye level, but he really just looks kinda.. well, odd. Never mind that. The main thing was that, why is he so invested in my "face"? What face, for that matter? Obviously he doesn't know what it means to be assertive.. or maybe he can read my mind? That would explain why he seems to talk telepathically, and why for some reason it feels weird to actually talk. Maybe I can try? Instead of actually talking, I try to send signals with my brain, reaching out with icy tendrils to his. In the air, I feel other spirits, but I recoil from them and focus on the closest, wrapping my mind around the glowing orb that was the connection to Vanish's consciousness. "Nothing that concerns you, pussycat," I reply coldly, standing and heading down the sidewalk, towards the side where people couldn't brush through me, toward the center of the city. Maybe I can get away from this weirdo and just think of a way to observe my pack without being creepy, without him interrupting?

(Yeah, Vanish was supposed to be levitating but w/e) Vanish continued to follow the wolf, paws pattering against the ground in a swift trot to keep up with Sol's walking pace. He was still unsatisfied with her answer. "Fine. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe you're prickly because you just died. I think. Maybe you have been for longer and you just have the most annoying superiority complex in the universe." She was probably ignoring him by now, but he decided to leave her with a word of advice before continuing his mischief. "You should try throwing yourself at the ground and missing! Jumping and not coming down works just as well." He launched himself into the air, demonstrating the technique, and gave his best impression of a jaunty salute with one paw before turning to leave.

How dare he! I'm not prickly! I'm just intelligent with modesty and caution! Refusing to respond to his petty comments, I walked on in silence. Advice? Who in his right mind would give a stranger advice? Oh, wait... I'm being so.. so rude I can hardly see it. I'm dead already, so what harm is there. Only that you'll be on the same planet with him for eternity my inner conscious snapped. I scolded it, and it recoiled like a frightened pup. "Wait," I said simply, drooping my head a little. "You're right. I'm just a little.. over cautious, I suppose. You wouldn't believe what I just went through, and even if you did, I don't think - no offense intended - that you could truly grasp the weight of it." I didn't want to try this "flying" business, not after what had just happened. Who knows what might happen if I try levitating while talking?

Vanish nonchalantly waved a paw. "Hey, don't sweat it." It was beside the point that wolves didn't sweat, as far as he knew. "Dying is tough for everyone. What matters is what you do next." His feline instincts started to screech at him. Cats aren't supposed to be even a tiny bit philosophical, or sympathize with anyone, and certainly not anything that isn't a cat! He did his best to ignore them, though this would likely prove futile soon- he'd been following his initial impulses to the letter for his entire life, and then some. He supposed that was why an ugly pattern of filthy tire tracks ended up marring his coat. And also destroying it, for the most part.
(Sorry for the short post!)

I dip my head in appreciation of his words. Without speaking, I pad back to where Vanish is hovering and look up at where he is. "So, what were you saying? Honestly, I was kinda focused on the idea of ripping what's left of your pelt," I say, hoping the cat would understand wolf humor. It often involved something.. odd, if I may say so.

Vanish recoiled from Sol's... joke? Threat? He wasn't sure. While typical ghost humor did tend to be pretty morbid, he wasn't expecting such a violent proposal to be delivered so casually. "Well, er, flying is pretty fun. You just have to jump and not hit the ground. You don't technically weigh anything anymore. In fact, I have no idea how anyone stays on the ground! Oh well, screw physics. We're talking about the abilities of ghosts here, so it doesn't have to make sense!" Vanish grinned, apparently satisfied with this explanation.

I grunt in acknowledgement, standing firmly. Then with a bit of focus - which you may not think you need when jumping - I leap into the air, willing my paws to stay off the ground. And somehow, I didn't fall. "Wooooaahh," I yip, trying to find my right of balance. Finally, I manage to keep from rolling over in midair, which I had been doing. I look over at Vanish and grin toothily. "I know you're laughing in some way," I say, having to agree that seeing a wolf summersault in the air isn't something a cat usually sees, nor a wolf. "Haven't you seen a flying wolf spin head over paws?" I giggle a little, then return to a bit of a mellow stoicism. "You shared your name, I suppose it's only fair I share mine. I'm Sol, former pack Alpha of a pack further North."
Tried my best not to powerplay and I think I managed. I didn't say directly that Vanish was laughing, so you can have him be all "what!? I aint be laughing, fool!" or just.. NVM, I'm just too excited about this RP >.<

(I'm soooooo sorry about how late this is! ><') Vanish had to agree that the sight of a wolf spinning around in the air, trying to keep her balance, was quite comical. Of course, no canine could ever hope to be as graceful as a cat, especially not him, a fine, albeit dead, specimen, so he had to cut her a little slack. So the wolf's name was Sol, huh? It was a nice name. Better than Fluffy. "Pack Alpha? I'm a pack alpha too! My pack consists of me, me, and me!" Vanish bragged, puffing out his chest as if this were a huge achievement.

I narrow my eyes a touch but keep my grin slightly as I stagger forward through the air. I don't know if Vanish can see it, but I'm worried about my pack. I desperately want to see them and make sure they were okay, perhaps even tell them I was alright in some way. Of course, I wasn't okay; I was stuck in a life after death on earth, doomed to always wonder about my pack and what might have happened if I hadn't led them into battle. "So, what happened to you?" I ask, nonchalantly floating forward, kicking as though I was swimming. It was true, I was heading back towards my former home. Maybe..
