Out with the old, in with the new (Open)

[Meltingstone]

 Meltingpaw paded into her new den.  Meltingpaw, She liked the sound of that rather than Meltingkit. She scanned the area for a empty nest. She took one by the corner and looked at it.  She lied down and started to wash her fluffy tail.
 Once she stopped, Meltingpaw looked around. She may be an apprentice now but the kit-like longing for company stuck to her fur like the faint smell of crowfood.
She heard a meow come from behind as another cat entered the den. She flickered her tail nervously. "Hello." She shyly mewed quietly. She tucked her paws under her, now appearing smaller.

[Dapplepaw]

"Oh!" Dapplepaw mewed, backing up a step.  "I'm sorry, I didn't see you back there."  She scooted away from the entrance of the den and sat down to look at this new cat.  She vaguely recognized the other kitten from the nursery, but hadn't ever officially met her.  Normally she wouldn't start a conversation, but the apprentice looked so small and almost as nervous as she was, and she warmed to her immediately.  "You're another new apprentice, right?" she asked, getting up to move closer so she wouldn't have to speak so loudly.

[Meltingstone]

Meltingpaw sat up a bit. "Yes, I'm Meltingpaw." The apprentice sat up a bit more and curled her heavy tail over her paws, the long fur of her tail covering them almost completely. "You are..." she trailed. "I mean.... What's your name?" She added quickly. Meltingpaw did not want to appear rude in any way, shape or form. Meltingpaw had never thought of not having friends until now. But at least she knows the apprentice in front of her, that was a start.

[Dapplepaw]

"Sorry, I'm Dapplepaw," the tortoiseshell mewed, sitting back down closer to Meltingpaw.  "I'm sorry to bother you, I just thought I recognized you from our ceremony and, you know, us younger apprentices should stick together right?  Have you found a place to sleep yet?"

[Meltingstone]

Meltingpaw noded and smiled a bit. Dapplepaw was right, the younger apprentices had to stick together. "Yes," she mewed a bit louder then before. She nodded at the nest she was siting in. Meltingpaw's eyes were only half open but she wasn't tired, she felt very relaxed now that she seemed to have made a friend.

[Dapplepaw]

"Oh, of course."  Dapplepaw withdrew a bit, embarrassed.  She should have realized that.  She opened her mouth to change the subject, but instead made a face as no sound came out.  Looking down at the moss under her paws made talking easier.  "S-sorry," she muttered.  Great, she might have made another friend, but the cat probably thought she was a freak now.

[Meltingstone]

Meltingpaw looked at the apprentice. She seemed to be very shy. "It's okay," she purred, not even knowing what Dapplepaw did wrong. She changed the subject, "So, are you excited to finally be an apprentice?"

[Dapplepaw]

Dapplepaw looked up with a tentative smile.  "I am.  But I can't wait to be a warrior!"  She cocked her head and really looked at the other cat for the first time.  "You know, you look a lot like my mentor Blackrose," she murmured absently.

[Meltingstone]

Meltingpaw looked down at herself. "Really?" Now that she thought about the white warrior, they did look alike. Same white fur and same black paws. "I guess you're right," she mewed, turning to the tortoiseshell.

[Dapplepaw]

"Who's your mentor, then?" Dapplepaw asked, hoping to keep the conversation going.  Maybe she finally could make a friend outside of Swallowpaw!

[Meltingstone]

"Oh, my mentor is Fei'lan." Meltingpaw wasn't sure she even said it right. She never really thought about her mentor's name actually. Although, she had to admit, it was quite strange.
