Maplefrost felt a little unusual as he padded out of the elders' den that morning. At first he shrugged it off, more intent on grabbing a mouse for breakfast than anything. But as he munched, the problem became clear - what he'd mistaken from sleep-blurred vision was not going away.
One of the calico's eyes had been blind for a long time. The other one, though not as good as it used to be, hadn't given him problems until now. Everything was foggy. Oh no… CloudClan, this can't be permanent.
"I c-can't see!" yowled the Maine Coon in panic.

Longpaw looked around in shock, he saw the elder, and hoped that he wasn't the one to say it. He slowly padded closer, "Are you okay?" He was very protective of the elders, he loved them. The long legged tabby then sat down, waiting for an answer, hoping he wasn't blind.

Though he glanced from side to side anxiously, it took a while for the apprentice's hazy outline to appear. Maplefrost squinted; this didn't help him to figure out who the voice belonged to, however. It could be a DeathClan youngling for all he knew.
"No!" snapped the old tom. "I've practically gone blind! This... I won't accept it, there has to be a way to fix it - fetch the medicine cats." He forced his distress down with anger. Surely the ancestors wouldn't steal what was left of his vision, after everything else that they'd done to him...

Longpaw was worried, yet slightly startled by the tone. "I'll go get them, will you be fine here?" he asked, a flick of his tail. He hoped the medicine cats were in their den and not busy, not out getting herbs.
(Okay, I do this a lot, sorry. But how would I get the medic cats?)

| By tagging them, like this: Flamingthorn & Brightflame |"Yes, just - hurry up," Maple responded snappily. He raised a paw to rub at his formerly-usable eye, which… didn't do much of anything to help, really. The world remained blurry and unfocused. He could only hope that the Clan's healers would be able to fix things.

Well this can't be good. He was called back to duty. Well what appears to be the problem old friend? the young Medicine cat purred. He really hoped this wasn't urgent or critical. If another cat died on him he could not forgive himself. He was already going through herbs in his mind. There had to be an easier way at doing Medicine than this. There had to be some magic something that made twolegs big for example. No there had to be something that could cure anything, but that wasn't important. He had to figure out what was going on.

| Skipping Longpaw since he's been on but hasn't posted. |
The elder turned in the general direction of this new voice, which he recognized as Flamingthorn's after a moment. "I can't see," Maplefrost repeated with a slight lash of his fluffy tail. "This isn't supposed to happen. I already lost half my vision seasons ago; does CloudClan feel the need to make my life even more miserable?" He was spitting in frustration by now. With the calico so agitated, it would be difficult to get anything else out of him.

He had to think for a moment. Is there anything you have done that you want to confess? Confession of your wrong doings at times can aid in recovery of loss of a sense, but it's a very rare thing to happen. I suspect it's just age and there is little I can do. He frowned in disappointment at himself after this statement. He tilted his head in thought, but nothing really came to him as of yet. There was no herb to his knowledge that restored sight let alone, slowed the loss of sight. Then he remembered it. Celandine.
There is one minor herb I can use. It helps with damaged eyes. Just relax, I need to drip the juice from this in your eye. He had very little of this herb, much to his alarm. He was in dire need of a restock come leafgreen. He slowly edged towards Maplefrost and dropped three drops of the juice in each of his eyes.

Longpaw sat and watched, I hope he gets better. He wondered if the medicine will sting his eyes, but didn't talk, so he didn't interrupt the medicine cat.
(Sorry yes it's short, and I was doing a lot of other things before.)

"What, are the ancestors going to use their magical dead cat powers to fix this if I start monologuing about all the apprentices I've scolded in the past moon? I can't see how that will do anything to help; I'm not dying," growled Maplefrost in irritation. He wished he could cuff Flamingthorn over the ears for that, but aiming was rather impossible now.
Though he half-bristled warily at the idea of having herb juice put in his eyes, the medicine cat was already working before he had any time to protest. The elder hissed when he felt the stinging and squeezed his eyes shut in an attempt to get them to stop watering. Wow, that was sort of painful. Maple had never been a big fan of putting things in his eyes for a reason.

Oh I forgot to mention that the herb will sting at first. I have had little experience with it, but I know of it's properties and it's use. he added almost apologetically. He felt foolish for even attempting a confession session. Forget the confessions. You're right you will get into Cloudclan without a worry. Occasionally if a cat harms another and either had no confessed to his wrongdoing or caused great suffering and all that lovely stuff, then Cloudclan likes to drop a punishment or two. You however, I doubt would do such a thing so it's just age taking it's effects. If the herbs doesn't work I got nothing. He winched at he watch his friend's pain, knowing he could do nothing useful to help the Tom. He frowned out of frustration, trying to think of anything else he could muster to try.

The elder was too busy trying not to rub at his watering eyes to pay much attention. Flamingthorn was chattering on about something - Maplefrost had to resist the urge to snap at the medicine cat. He didn't want to be entirely blind. Life had been pretty good with his leg injury gone, but now things had flipped around once again. It was probably dumb to have expected otherwise.
After a few minutes, the stinging sensation appeared to have faded. He blinked, but was disappointed to realize that his vision hadn't suddenly been restored. It was the same as it had been that morning - shadowy and blurry, so that he could hardly see more than outlines of cats and objects. Disappointing.
"My head is killing me," Maplefrost muttered.

He clenched his teeth and frantically tried to figure out what to do now. Open up. I'm getting you some poppy seeds for your head and I can see what else I can do to combat the vision. I am afraid otherwise, there is nothing I can do. He blinked a tear or two out of his eyes and shuttered, I-I-I am sorry. He had to be strong. If the Medicine Cat broke then the whole operation was down the drain. He knew he had little left to do for his dear friend and the idea was distressing to him.
