(Private to @vexed.)
If there was one place Artemis usually didn't go to, it was the Junkyard.
Not that she actively avoided it. It was less "stay away from place at all costs" and more "no point in going". It had interesting things in its scrap heaps, to be sure. But it also had tons of thrown away Twoleg food, something she didn't exactly enjoy. The stench didn't help, either.
Today, however, the interesting things won out over the Twoleg food. Artemis thought some scraps wouldn't hurt to spruce up her den a little and add to her nest. So here she was, poking around for some pieces of cloth or the like that could be washed free of whatever stains they had in the river. Twolegs, she found, could be surprisingly generous when it came to throwing things away. They ranged from understandable to almost incomprehensible.

Vex, having spent a lot of time around Twolegplace recently, was already quite familiar with this particular area. Sometimes there were hidden dangers - rats that swarmed out of nowhere, sharp bits of metal or glass… stuff that would made her dizzy with adrenaline. Other times, she could find tiny treasures like new gems to add to her hoard back in DeathClan. There were even leftover bits of Twoleg food if you knew how to look. The Junkyard was definitely full of surprises, and she loved it.
She trotted happily through the rusted gates, then promptly noticed that she wasn't alone. Vex bristled for a second. Upon recognizing Artemis, however, the grey tabby walked over and cracked a grin at the royal.
"Hey, whatcha doing here? Find anything neat?"

(@vexed ohhh god this is so late i'm sorry ;_;)
Another poke turned up a piece of cloth, ragged and faded but in a pretty shade of blue that reminded her of the sky when it was cloudless and the air was warm. It was slightly marred by a green stain, but it could easily be washed.
Just as Artemis overturned the cloth with her nose, her good ear pricked. The voice was familiar, but too friendly for her to recognize it as anyone from her past.
She turned, relaxing when she saw who it was and smiling slightly in return--something unusual for her indeed. "Just looking for things for my den," she replied. "I live rather far in DeathClan territory. It can get rather dull there sometimes."
She wondered where exactly Vex lived. Maybe it was close to the Twolegplace, but that still felt like a bit of a stretch. "And you? I hope you're doing well."

VEX OF DEATHCLAN Normally, she wouldn't be nearly so casual around another cat. Then again… Artemis had seemed decent enough when they'd met before - if you could call any of their sort decent. Vex supposed her moral compass was rather corrupt at this point. She'd only ever done things for her own gain; for Darkpool's sake, she'd even murdered a cat without a second thought! But it couldn't bother her if she never let herself dwell on it for too long. Living in the present, and all that.
"Yeah, it can," the tabby agreed. "It's been too quiet around there anyway. I don't suppose you have any idea where the rest of them have gone?" Vex frowned a bit in contemplation before responding to the question. "Oh - I've been well enough. Unless you count being bored out of your skull as problematic."
