It wasn't really the proper thing to be doing, but Maplefrost had discovered that the announcement ledge got nice and toasty in the afternoon sunlight. So he'd taken to snoozing up there most days. It was handy, at least - with so many cats in need of ceremonies and Dustpetal's absence, the calico elder had been taking up the task recently.
Looking rather sleepy, Maplefrost sat up and called the Clan together. He lapsed into the familiar words once a fair amount of felines had gathered below his rocky perch.
"By naming these apprentices, we show that IceClan will survive and remain strong…"
"Quailkit! From now on, you will be known as Quailpaw. Lightheart, you are ready for an apprentice and shall train him."
"Mallowkit! From now on, you will be known as Mallowpaw. Ashfrost, you are ready for an apprentice and shall train him."
That done, the Maine Coon let out a yawn and flopped down in order to return to his nap.

Bright and Early Ashfrost found himself thoroughly pleased to hear that he now had an apprentice. The warm feeling of happiness spread through him as he touched noses with Mallowpaw. He nodded at the younger cat and offered some sort of a smile. "Get your bedding ready in the apprentice den. Tomorrow, bright and early, we will start our tour of the territory." He sat carefully and licked his pelt, as he examined his new apprentice in his peripheral vision.

Lightheart raised his head proudly as his name was called, both proud and surprised the clan had trusted him with an apprentice already. Why shouldn’t they, though, he thought arrogantly, padding over to Quailpaw and touching nose’s with him. His leaf-hued eyes gleamed with approval as they caught on his new apprentice’s. “I’ll let you get settled into apprenticeship today,” the small tom informed with a flick of his tail, "but don’t spend all night chatting with the other apprentice’s— you’ll need your strength for tomorrow’s training.”

Mallowpaw stood quiet as the elder, Maplefrost, announced his and Quailpaw's promotion to apprentices. His ears flattened after the ceremony had ended, and he fought to control his pelt from bristling at the approaching figure of his mentor. Mallowpaw nodded brusquely, murmuring a sort of response as he tried not to recoil at the touch of Ashfrost's nose briefly against his. Without another word, Mallowpaw headed to his new den, where he knew Beetlepaw would be; and the thought of once again being close to his small sister sent Mallow's heart into a rapid pace.

I puffed out my chest with pride, raising my head to greet my new mentor. "Okay!" I responded quickly, though I clearly was not focused. My eyes flicked quickly across the crowd, and my pride faltered. What if I fail my apprenticeship? What if I can't become a warrior? I blinked rapidly, trying to rid myself of the horrid thoughts, but they didn't leave. I gave my mentor a small smile before rushing away, but not without a quick 'Congrats!' to Mallowpaw, whom he had spoken to before. WHEN I FALL IN LOVE I FALL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE MADE BY VEL OF GS

"Quailpaw! Mallowpaw!" Coalpaw cheered to for her two friends. She hadn't talked to either in a while. Hopefully she could see them more in the apprentice den.
"Lightheart, you better take care of Quailpaw!" She told her pale warrior friend. "I'll have your tail if you lay a harming paw on him."
