The air was fairly biting. Off of the mountain, new leaf may have started On the Fireclanners' flatlands, the snow was sure to have been gone. Up where the Iceclanners preferred, however, the snow was less slush and more a thawing, then freezing, mess.
This was the sort of weather, between any combination of things, in which the kits were most prone to colds or sniffles, not to mention the ticks waking up across the land as things thawed. Mothbriar was cautious about letting them out, and even about going out herself. It was just as bad to keep them cooped in, however, and the long-pelted queen was positive that she herself would go batty without a bit of fresh air.
A few minutes couldn't hurt...
So, the calico yawned and stretched her limbs, and emerged from the rocky nursery with an interesting case of nest-fur. She shook out her long pelt to relieve it a bit, but walked further into camp without much more care than that. Perhaps, despite her slightly disheveled appearance, someone would make conversation with her, if she sat alone for long enough.

Blocked by Bird Feathers There was just something about winter that Ashfrost had always been drawn too. Perhaps it was the cold air that made one's breath hang in the air, or the way it felt so warm inside the dens next to one's clanmates. Or perhaps it was the way the wind stung a little on one's cheeks then swirled around a cat. Something about it entranced him. Now, however, Winter was dissolving into Spring, which he also loved. For spring symbolized something new...fresh.
Ashfrost stretched his limbs as he entered camp once more from training his apprentice. He was thoroughly tired but it was the good, satisfied tired. With semi-heavy paws, he made his way to the freshkill pile and picked out some sort of bird from the top. The he waked to his favorite corner of the camp, half in the shade and half out of the shade and–
Suddenly he smashed into a cat with long hair that brushed all around him. He looked up wildly and said, "muffhafff," then spat out his bird and shook his pelt. "CloudClan! I'm so sorry!" he repeated again. Looking closer at the longhaired cat he recognized the queen and dipped his head. "Mothbriar," he muttered, "Again, so sorry."

A huge eruption of good-natured laughter flowed from Mothbriar as the tom apologized for running into her. She shook her head slightly, and licked her shoulder a bit to smooth her fur. Perhaps in her younger days, she would have chewed his ears off. Now, however, she hardly cared. motherhood having made her gentler.
"It's no problem," she paused for a moment, "Ashfrost, is it? Yes, I think that's right. Anyway, I was in your way. Don't mind me."
She stepped to the side slightly, so that she was now out of the path of the tabby tom. "Although, you do have a large bird there/ Tell you what, we'll call it even if we can share, if only so I can get some conversation in with someone who is above the age of a few moons old."

Wonders In good nature, Ashfrost laughed and settled his bird down to share with Mothbriar. "We can call that a deal," he smiled beginning to pick the feathers off of the bird, dividing the down ones to use in bedding. He hadn't really talked to Mothbriar before, but now was as good as a time to start as any. "So," He began, but had never been truly good at sparking up conversation or guiding it gracefully to entertain. "How...er–" this was definitely harder than he remembered it being. "How are all of the kits?" he finished lamely but gave up on speaking to eat the bird.
Mentally he scolded himself for his stupidity and considered rolling his eyes, but thought better of it. Mothbriar it always surrounded in kits, Ashfrost chilled. She probably doesn't want to talk about them even more. Even the gentlest Queen needs a break sometimes. Then he rolled his eyes at himself, unable to resist.

The she-cat nodded. She was used to, and half expected, questions about the kits every time she talked to anyone. It was her job, after all, to raise the next generation of the clan. Future apprentices, future warriors, future everything. Of course they'd want to know.
"They're all doing well. The turn of the season on the mountain is always rough on everyone, and they've never been through it before, so it's interesting."
Her tail flickered for a moment, and then she asked,
"How is the prey running? Our relations with other clans?"

Typical Ashfrost had to laugh at how painstakingly typical their conversation was between a Queen and a Warrior. He dipped his head t the Queen and repaid evenly. "Prey is starting to run much better thanks to the melting of winter and the beginning of spring." He thought for a moment on the other Clan relationships. But he didn't know too terribly much over then other clans. In fact he had just returned to his own. Nevertheless he answered as best as he could.
"I do not know much about the other clans as of right now. Though I've heard nothing of the great sort it going on between us, other than the normal." Hopping that would be enough, Ashfrost began to change the subject once again. Though he wasn't exactly sure what to talk about next.
