A bad day

Waterpaw walked out of the apprentices den scowling. She had no reason to be in such a bad mood, but sometimes that was life. She sat down by the fresh kill pile and tried to calm down.

[Rosepaw]

Rosekit found himself alone again. Quailkit had gone to become an apprentice, and Rosekit hardly saw his mother or father, let alone his other siblings. Orchidpaw was probably off doing some apprentice things, and he couldn't see hide nor hair of his rather reclusive sister, Ashkit. It darkened the young tom's day a little, but he was determined to remain on the positive side.

Casting a smile, the tortoiseshell meandered the camp, getting distracted once in a while with simple things such as warriors coming back from the outside world or a patch of grass here and there. A lone she-cat sitting by the fresh-kill pile caught his eye, and grinning, Rosekit trotted over. "Hello!"

Water paw didn't looke up. Her eyes were full of anger at nothing. "Hi." She said. Her tone was happy, but that was not how she felt.

[Rosepaw]

Rosekit could admit that he wasn't very good at reading the atmosphere, and maybe it would have been better if he just backed away the moment he saw the she-cat, but there he was, sitting down on his butt and smiling brightly. "What's your name? Are you an apprentice? Oh, do you know my friend, Quailpaw? He just got his ceremony a few sunrises ago, so you must have seen him around, right?" An inkling in the back of his head told him that he should just be quiet and leave because Waterpaw didn't seem very happy, but the tom ignored it anyway.

Waterpaw looked up after she had time to compose her expression. Now the small bit of her happiness shined instead of all of her other feelings. "I am Waterpaw. I do, infact, know Quailpaw." She said.

[Rosepaw]

Rosekit brightened up. "You have a pretty name! My name's Rosekit - like the flower!" Waterpaw looked better now, more cheerful than earlier. "You do know Quailpaw, oh this is wonderful! Is he doing okay? Is being an apprentice really that fun?"

"Well, it has been a while since I last day Quialpaw. Being an apprentice is really fun. Well, that is compared to the boring moon or two in the nursery." She said still focusing on the one thought that was happy. That was the fact that she was alive and didn't die as a kit for some random reason.

[Rosepaw]

"I wanna be an apprentice really bad. My sister and my friend are both apprentices, and I'm still a kit," he said, a pout forming on his face. Shaking it off, Rosekit giggled. "Do you wanna play a game? It'll make those one or two moons in the nursery not as boring!"

Waterpaw nodded. "Sure." She said. "What game do you want to play?" She asked.

[Rosepaw]

Rosekit, giddy with excitement, bounced around, tail waving. "There's so many, I can't choose! We could play tag, or we could make shapes out of clouds, or we could play-fight!" The tortoiseshell tom paused and laughed in embarrassment when he realized he hadn't given a straight answer. "Oops, haha, I guess I really don't know! What do you think we should play? Or maybe we can just talk. Wow, I guess I'm really bad at choosing things, hah!"

Waterbreeze laughed. "I remember having a lot of fun making shapes out of the clouds. Perhaps we could do that." She said.

[Rosepaw]

Glee masked the tom's face. "Quailpaw and I do that, too." Rosekit glanced up at the sky, seeing the white mass dotting the never-ending blue. He stared at a particularly large one and hummed to himself. "That looks like.. a lizard on a rock!"

Snowblossom nodded still staring up at the cloud. "Or a lizard on a ball trying to balance." She said and turned to another cloud that was crawling twatds them in the sky. She tilted her head to see it from all angles. "That one looks like a twoleg walking a dog." She said staring at the cloud a little longer.

[Rosepaw]

Rosekit bobbed his head along to Waterpaw's words. "Yeah, it does look like a twoleg walking a dog!" He looked at another cloud, scrunched up his nose, and said, "Hm.. I'm not really sure what that one looks like."

Waterbreeze looked up. "Oh, easy, a tree with a cat in it that is scared to death. Probably a Fireclan cat." She said trying not to laugh at how funny that would be if it was in real life instead of a cloud.
