—Congrat’s on becoming medicine cat’s guys! Meet your first patient— Snowkit limped warily into the medicine cat’s den, his tail and ears drooping guiltily. A few sunrises ago he had injured his paw-pad on a nettle plant that had made it’s way into a bushel of flowers he had been weaving into his nest. And, being the proud kit he was, Snow had refused to show his injuries to an adult— thinking he could easily get rid of a few measly thorns. Well, it turned out he was wrong, and the small amount of swelling that had made the kit’s paw tender had only proved so. “ Liongrowl?” the snow-white kit called out hesitantly, clutching his injured paw close to his small frame, “ Grayshade?” he tried again, wondering which one of the medicine cats would be tending to him. If they take much longer my paw’s gonna fall off, he thought bitterly, the pain running through his paw making him irritable (not that he wasn’t that way normally).

(well thank you eue)
Grayshade stuck her head out as her name was called, surveying the small white kit that stood before her. Always the kits. "Yes?" she asked. The kit was clutching one paw close to his body. She tsked, turning to rummage through the herbs. "Thorn?" she asked with her back turned to him. That was what it normally was.

Snowkit looked away, holding back from snapping defensively at the medicine cat. “Yeah,” he mumbled as he shifted a bit, carefully not to instinctively place his injured paw on the ground. The nettle he had stepped on had fairly small thorns, and while he been able to yank out a shadow one when he first got the would he felt that there might have driven a small thorn deeper into his paw-pad the last few days.

"Hey," Grayshade muttered at the kit's tone. She glanced closely at the paw pad, wincing a bit. "This looks infected. How long has it been in?" She dropped a clumb of chervil and dock at her feet, examining it closely. She pulled a face. "Yikes."

“Uh— well…” the young kit’s voice trailed off as he looked at his fluffy white tail, which he had wrapped around his unharmed paw, “a few days,” he said, almost in a whisper. He sniffed, his pale blue eyes blinking as he caught a slightly sweet scent rolling of the plants that Grayshade had set down. Snowkit studied it curiously. I though herbs were supposed to be bitter, he thought, not that he was too keen on the idea of taking a bite of the leaves anytime soon.

"A few—" Grayshade broke off, reminding herself of her own shenanigans when she'd been a kit. Not that there had been many. "Next time, come straight here. You're not expected to live with a nettle bush stuck in your foot, so don't try." With a grunt she settled herself to the ground, pulling the concerned paw towards her and carefully fitting her teeth around the largest thorn, prudent not to bite the soft pad.
"This is gonna hurt a little," she said, her words muffled by the large thorn. She pulled it out with a swift, decisive motion, and spat the thorn out in a corner, ignoring Snowpaw's reaction, whatever might it be. She quickly snatched up the chervil into her mouth, chewing it and letting it's healing juices drip onto some cobwebs she'd placed beneath her. Holding her breath a bit, a bad habit she'd formed, she pressed the clump of juice soaked cobwebs to the paw, both to apply the juice and to staunch any bleeding. "Careful," she said without looking, glancing at the dock leaves and re-considering them. "Probably not," she muttered to herself.

Snowkit flinched a bit as he was scolded, knowing full well he had deserved it. The kit was distracted from his guilt, though, when he realized with wide-eyes that Grayshade was getting read to yank the thorns out of his paw. His first instinct was to run away, but he knew it would be stupid to do so, and that he would have to deal with this if he wanted to get any better. The snowy-white tom screwed his eyes shut as the medicine cat clamped her teeth around the thorn, the fur on his thick pelt standing on end and his muscles stiffening with pain as the blasted nettle was yanked out. He let out a muffled hiss of pain, digging the claws of his free paw into the ground.

"There you go," she said. "Good for you." She peered at the wound over her shoulder as she pulled herbs from the stores. "That looks liike all of it. You're going to need to keep that wrap poultice on it for a day or two." She handed him a dandelion leaf.
"Chew on this," she instructed. "That's got to hurt. It'll help." He wasn't in shock or anything--she didn't want to make him sleepy with poppyseeds. "If there's nothing else, I think you're good to go!" she said, lifting the accursed nettle in her teeth. She placed it in an empty alcove to remind her to take it somewhere safer later. "And try to avoid any more nettles," she said wryly, with a dry purr.

Snowkit took a tentative bite of the dandelion leaf as instructed, squinting uncertainly his eyes at the unusual taste. It wasn't bad, but he would have rather liked to spit it out. It wasn't all too tasty. The fluffy white kit continued to munch on the leaf while he watched Grayshade store the nettle thorn somewhere safe, shuddering a bit as his gaze hung on the sharp tip. "Don't worry," Snow said after he had gulped down the last of the herb, the pain his paw starting to ease-- just slightly, "I doubt you'll find me rolling around in a nettle patch anytime soon"

"Oh, I certainly hope so!" Grayshade said with a light purr, gently flicking his shoulder with her tail. "Keep that poultice clean," she instructed, "And when you take it off in a day or two, do it with clean water nearby, so you can soak it if you need to." SHe nodded approvingly. "All right. Bye!"
[End thread. Successfully completed first patient! Woo!]
