so i wanted to make a rant about GT like ages ago but never did cause no one cares but NOW I DONT CARE EITHER AND IM GONNA DO IT ANYWAY HAHAHAHAHA
originally i was gonna make a huge essay about this jazz but instead i'll just list every flaw it has that essentially caused its massive failure
> goku's physical design. why was he so much tanner. why. i can see him getting a tan after five years of training uub wherever that island of his is, but even after traveling in space for basically 10 months he still had the tan. it's as though Toei decided "WE NOW HAVE FULL POWER OVER CHARACTER DESIGNS LET'S GO WILD BOYS"
> pan's physical design. it basically screams 'i'm a rebellious edgy nine year old who likes showing midriff but i'm not like the other girls!!!!!', yet she constantly uses the phrase 'that's not how to treat a lady!'.
> goku's character was far too naive and childish for a man of his experience. "but tonya, it's GOKU we're talking about!" yes, it is. and even goku has his limits in certain situations, which he failed to display throughout most of GT.
> pan was whiny/rude/bossy/just plain stupid to the point where it's not just a flawed and defined character, but to the point where you start calling their personality equivalent to trash. i understand this creates a perfect opening for future character development, but gohan and videl are clearly doing a crap job of raising that little brat considering the way she acts. there's naivety, and then there's Pan who--after already experiencing risky scenarios on the trip so far and knowing of the dangers that lie ahead--threw a tantrum and ran off on her own to look for the dragon ball on a desert planet. without the dragon radar. there is child stupidity, and then there's pan.
> trunks' random boost of maturity came out of nowhere. of course his attitude from when he was 8 could have changed VASTLY over the ten years that passed in Z, but in the last few episodes he seemed just about the same even as an 18 year old. except, you know, more hormonal. five years pass since then when GT starts, and suddenly he's this no-nonsense babysitter of goku and pan.
> there was a lack of creativity throughout the ENTIRE series. foreign aliens had accents found on earth? was that really necessary? the namekians were more unique looking than the aliens we met in GT, and they didn't need russian or german accents to be considered foreign. the biggest example of horrid originality is the people of planet Galdo (if that's what it's called im too lazy). they were literally native americans from earth, but with elf ears. like. pls.
ALSO LET'S NOT FORGET DR. MYUU. because his design was SO. UNIQUE. and by unique i mean he looked like Dr. Gero's long lost cousin with a german accent.
> where there were absences of originality, there were overdoses of it. like the super saiyan 4 design. the design grew on me after a while and i do enjoy it now, but the transitions literally go
blonde spiky hair with blue eyes - blonde spikiER hair with blue eyes and sparks - long flowing mane of blonde spiky hair with blue eyes and sparks - VARIOUSLY COLORED FURRY APE CREATURE WITH THE SAME COLOR HAIR JUST LONGER AND WEIRDER AND VARYING EYE COLORS. ALSO PANTS THAT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. BUT I MEAN WHO CARES ABOUT THAT CAUSE THIS IS SHONEN ANIME AMIRITE
> the animation was just plain ridiculous sometimes like I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD ANIME FROM BEFORE SOME OF YOU GUYS WERE BORN BUT TOEI IS LITERALLY THAT BAD AT UNDERSTANDING BASIC PHYSICS
> they killed off majin buu by fusing him with uub. and then called him majuub. what's wrong with majin uub i don't get it why majuub HE SOUNDS LIKE A GUMDROP COMPANY
> they killed of android/cyborg 17 and absolutely ruined his legacy with the 'super 17' episodes. Toei doesn't know how to let a character rest in peace apparently
> they killed off piccolo then brought him back then basically killed him off again by sticking him in hell for eternity like first of all how dare you
> goku remained a child for the entire. series. the only time he wasn't in his child form was in his ssj4 form. So basically for 60 or so episodes, earth's greatest hero is either seen as a 12 year old boy who somehow lost all of his sense of reason along with his adult form or a pink furred ape with magical pants.
> vegeta was going through a mid-life crisis of sorts WHICH WAS FUNNY SOMETIMES but overall i just wanted to burn every article of leather clothing he owns
> bulla was 11 years old yet dressed like an escort
> FUNimation tried covering up the fact that pan and bulla dressed/acted FAR too maturely for children by just changing the passage of time from 5 years to 10 years. not only did it just make it seem like they were trying too hard, but that literally just made it worse when they jokingly made pan and trunks appear to be... 'close' through the dubbed dialogue. because guess what even when pan is 14 years old trunks is 28 and that's just plain illegal in countries all across the world :^)
> some major characters from Z had their level of significance reduced to that of fertilizer and were either shown as such or not shown at all
> basically every arc they came up with was a brilliant concept but executed in the worst way possible. like the shadow dragons arc. "what are we gonna call the most powerful dragon" "omega shenron" "omega?" "omega"
> the ending. just, the ending. THEY HAD THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A GREAT ENDING TO THE DRAGON BALL SERIES. BUT WHAT DID THEY DO? they kept goku as a 12 year old overly tan boy and he rode away with actual Shenron while the dragon balls were absorbed into his body (? w hy ), and essentially killed him off just like that. and then gave a horrendous epiloque of grandmother pan raising her grandson that just so happens to resemble Goku and is named Goku. i dont even want to talk about the epiloque ok it was literally that bad
that is all i have to say for now about the tragedy known as Dragon Ball GT and why the entire fandom hates it, feel free to share your thoughts/concerns <3
