It was a while since she had been to this area of the land. Drought's tree. She did not hear much about the tom lately, but wasn't that productive? By having an absence in the clan, that meant that the American shorthair was busy devising a plan, right?
Pawing the ground a bit, Dove wondered why again she was here. Oh well, her encounters with the tom made her feel like she was actually up to doing things. Forward she went until reaching a root of the tree. Here she would wait for the Deathclan leader.

DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN Well, it seemed that they'd skidded out of leaf-bare, sprang right over newleaf, and stuck the landing in greenleaf. It was uncomfortably warm in DeathClan that day. The good news was that the shade cast by the trees offered a bit of a reprieve from the heat. Not much, but it was better than being stuck in the sun - Drought didn't envy the cats out in the badlands and plains.
He peered out from his den among the roots when a familiar scent reached his nose. "Dove," the amber-eyed tom greeted evenly, stepping into the open a bit stiffly. He sat down, flicked a torn ear, and simply waited for the royal to speak. WORDS: 114 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - yoooooo template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

She squinted a bit, trying to see if Drought's physical appearance changed in anyway. Nothing that she could tell from here.
The last time she came, she was given the permission to punish younglings who disrespected the adults of the clan. Although they were a band of rogues, respect was still important to any cat.
"I've been to the plains recently. . ." she started, waiting to see a reaction. Anger for leaving Deathclan territory without consent, or approval for being curious enough to explore the unknown? ". . .and I think some of its land would be a beneficial investment for us."

DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN Aside from some grey hairs among the black patches of fur, and perhaps a couple extra scars, it was remarkable how Drought looked mostly the same as he had before. There was usually so much change constantly happening in this group. Cats joined or left, the territory itself morphed over time, but the leader was one of the few constants in DeathClan.
Drought nodded slightly in response to Dove's statement. His cats had always been free to roam among the outsider lands - that was to say, anywhere that wasn't controlled by the CloudClan-worshippers. Sometimes it even led to rogues or loners being recruited. This particular freedom certainly helped to make DeathClan's presence known, at the least.
"A beneficial investment? How so?" He wasn't particularly interested in expanding DeathClan's actual territory, but perhaps that wasn't what the royal meant. He'd give her a chance to explain first. WORDS: 146 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

"There's a number of cats who already have the knowledge of Deathclan," she started. "Some were former members - mainly younglings - who left for some reason. They are still loyal to us in a way by not joining ranks with the clan cats, so why not patrol a sector of the plains and round up a few potentials to join the clan?"
A somewhat naive suggestion, but Deathclan's numbers were low and she feared that once their numbers depleted, so would the legacy of the cats who ruled the outskirts of the forest.

DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN "Hmm. I'll tell you right now that I'm not interested in trying to bring back cats who have left. They made their decision and are no longer loyal to me. Outsiders, though… I'll consider that."
Drought paused for a few moments before continuing. "I was going to take a trip to the plains in a few days anyway. Were you interested in tagging along?" WORDS: 064 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Not going to bring former members back? Dove blinked, trying to comprehend. But bringing them back would allow an increase in numbers. A loyalty and sense of pride was something Drought seemed to carry with great importance. 'He's afraid of them betraying him again,' she thought, thinking this was the first time he was vulnerable.
When offered the opportunity to venture into the plains once more, she nodded. "You'd be surprised how free the prey there run."

DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN "We're fortunate enough to have a wide variety of prey here, but I suppose a bit of extra meat wouldn't be too bad," he mused. The previous leaf-bare had been harsh, and though Drought was thin like most rogues, it was even more obvious now.
Shrugging a bit, the leader spoke again. "I'll come and find you when we're leaving. In the meantime… did you need anything else?" WORDS: 068 || WRITTEN FOR: Dove NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

She shook her head. There was nothing else to be said.

DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN "Excellent. I'll be seeing you later, then." A brief flick of his tail served as a dismissing gesture to Dove, and the patched tom disappeared into the shadows of his den not even a heartbeat later. He had some planning to do.
