LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN Lickpaw stifled a yawn as he stepped into the apprentices' den after a long day of training. It was evening and his paws felt as though they were about to fall off.
A nap was starting to sound like a wonderful idea. The pale orange feline sat down in his nest by the den entrance, and he was about to curl up to sleep when someone else walked in. WORDS: 069 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Lace up your shoes Here's how we do Run baby run Don't ever look back They'll tear us apart if you give them the chance Don't sell your heart, don't say we're not meant to be Run baby run, forever we'll be You and me | Lacking a mentor never bothered Dogpaw that much before. He could get by on his own from tagging along with other apprentices and their mentors, and he wasn't generally a bother to them. He was quiet, kept to himself, and did as he was asked without hogging any more attention than needed. He was a shadow more than anything, really. And other than training, most of his time was spent doing mindless chores. But as Dogpaw trudged out of the nursery, coated in dust and dirt and things he would rather not think about, he wasn't liking his current situation very much.
The grey and white apprentice entered the den probably looking like he had just rolled in foxdung. Sighing in disdain, Dogpaw headed for his nest, but he caught sight of a pair of eyes regarding him. He blinked and nodded in polite greeting. |

LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN A huge grin spread across Lick's muzzle. Now, he'd never actually explored his sexuality before, but one thought floated through his mind that pretty much cemented the fact that he wasn't quite straight.
Wow. He's pretty.
And yeah, Dogpaw looked like he'd taken a dust bath, but that didn't change a thing. Lickpaw's exhaustion was entirely forgotten as he leaped to his paws and approached the other tom.
"Hi! What's your name? Have you been an apprentice for long? Who's your mentor?" A deluge of questions burst from the youngster's jaws, and it was all he could do to stop and wait for Dog to reply. WORDS: 106 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

He wasn't prepared to actually have the pale-furred tom approach him and strike up conversation. He might have been observant, but Dogpaw wasn't an expert in social behaviours.
Shaking off his previous surprise, he patiently allowed Lickpaw to introduce himself and afterward ask him simple questions. Dogpaw wasn't much a person for words, but he found no choice but to answer. "''M Dogpaw," he reciprocated, "I've been one for a reasonable amount of time, and I don't have a mentor." He receded back into silence, busying himself with looking presentable. |

LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN "Dogpaw? That's a neat name! Mine's Lickpaw, but I wanna be Lickfox when I'm older. What about you?" Though the friendliness was pretty standard, Lick didn't tend to be excessively chatty. He surprised even himself by keeping up the flood of conversation.
Hmm. I hope I'm not annoying him… WORDS: 049 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

They were interesting enough, and really, Dogpaw needed the company. He listened attentively to the other male, keeping himself quiet unless he was asked questions. Lickpaw was definitely a peculiar name, and Dogpaw briefly pondered over the reason why he was given such a name. "I'm not sure yet. I think I'll let Cloverstar decide if I can't." The silent apprentice sat down. His fur was still covered in dust, but he had managed to salvage some of his appearance. After a moment, he said, "Lickpaw.. What's the reason? For the name?" He peered curiously at him. |

LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN "Cloverstar's great; I'm sure she won't give you something lame," Lickpaw purred. She did seem like the nicest of the four leaders. Darkstar was supposedly off her rocker, Spiderstar seemed a bit untrustworthy, and Wildstar… well, nobody apparently knew whether she was still alive. RockClan was small, but they had spirit.
He hesitated just a bit upon hearing Dog's question. "Oh, that? I think it's 'cause mom noticed that I like to lick things. Did you know there's this big boulder near the mountains that tastes exactly like fish? I swear it's true!" WORDS: 093 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

He hummed in acceptance, "I'm aware that she is. Cloverstar's had a significant impact on my life before, so I hope it won't be too much to ask such a trivial thing like a warrior name." He didn't say anything else about the she-cat after that. The grey and white tuxedo male angled his head to his left, inquisitive. "An interesting origin and habit, but it's.. riveting, I suppose," he noted. He hadn't ever heard of anyone having a habit for licking things, but there was a first for everything. "Where did you find the rock? If it's as intriguing as you say it is, I might just see for myself." His discomfort lessened then, the tension in his figure easing. |

LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN The orange tom's eyes lit up. I made him laugh! Does this mean he likes me? A dreamy grin curled at the corners of Lick's mouth as he stared at Dog for a moment. The older apprentice had finally opened up, and it was great.
"Well, it's sorta up on this ridge. I don't know if I can give directions. But I can show you, if you want!" He'd take any chance he could get to spend more time around this dude. WORDS: 082 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

He held the other apprentice's gaze easily, amber staring right back at green, before Lickpaw averted his eyes. The tuxedo cat imagined what he was explaining in his mind's eye, thinking up possible places where Lickpaw might be referring to. His ears pricked in interest. "I don't mind a little excursion," he replied, implying that he had nothing else to do and was willing to stay in Lickpaw's company. |

LICKPAW OF ROCKCLAN By now, the sun had set, but it mattered not to Lickpaw. "Great! Let's go, then, before we have to sneak out." RockClan's territory could be dangerous, especially at night. The warriors would probably stop apprentices from leaving camp it they waited too much longer.
He stepped out of the den and bounded quickly over to the territory entrance, slipping outside before anyone could notice. Hopefully. It was late enough that he'd rather not take chances. "I think we're good," the pale-furred tom murmured after a pause. WORDS: 087 || WRITTEN FOR: Dogpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2
