The light brown tabby lay just outside the apprentices' den, the midday sun heating his pelt to just within tolerable temperatures. He'd been dozing on and off for about an hour now, and he was just beginning to slip into contented unconsciousness again when he felt an unexpected weight drop onto the tip of his tail. Quick to pull his tail out from underneath the cat who'd stepped on him, Sunpaw turned and said, "Sorry, was I in your way?" His icy blue stare made it seem as though he was being sarcastic, but his friendly and apologetic tone suggested he was being sincere; he was sorry, of course, though there had been cats that mistook his detached gaze to suggest apathy or anger before.

He just woke up and unaware that he stepped on someone elses tail at that moment while walking out. He shook his head,"Nah, I just didn't watch where I was going, that's all. Your not hurt are you?" The apprentice said kind of in a mocked manner, amusing actually. Walking out of the den into the sunlight but luckily it moved so it wouldn't be in his eyes.

"Nope, I'm fine," Sunpaw replied, noticing the strange tone of mockery that had entered the other cat's voice but choosing to ignore it. He didn't recognize the cat, though he looked to be around his age. "I'm Sunpaw, by the way," he said after a moment, grinning amicably at the other tom. "Who are you, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Sup! I'm Pebblepaw." He said quite happily, he lacked of. "Nice to meet you too, Sunpaw. Who's your mentor?"

Sunlight cast bramble-shaped shadows upon his long, jagged fur as he ambled out of the apprentices' den to collide with a fellow apprentice, whose name, Pebblepaw, was unknown to him. "Oof." he grunted, stepping out of the way. "No offense meant, but could ya move? You're kinda... in the way." He grinned toothily at the two apprentices to show that he truly meant no offense, and stepped behind Sunpaw so he was not an obstacle to apprentices exiting the den.
"'Lo, I'm Thistlepaw." he told them with a whisk of his tail. "So, who're you guys?" ulla

Pebblepaw waved his tail in greeting, to the both of them! It was nice actually getting to know toms- it just seemed easier.
"Thistlepaw, hey? Well, nice to meet you!" He grinned greetingly, moving out of the way happily,"Sunpaw- you as well!"
He glanced at Thistlepaw,"I think you may of heard coming out of the den didn't you- My name? Guess!" He encouraged.

Sunpaw dipped his head to Pebblepaw, but before he could respond to the other apprentice, another tom strode out of the den, introducing himself as Thistlepaw. Though Pebblepaw had said his name in front of the long-furred tom, he figured it would be polite to properly introduce himself. "Right, I'm Sunpaw. Pleased to meet you both," he said, his voice friendly, and waited for Thistlepaw to "guess" as to what Pebblepaw's name was.

"Likewise." he nodded to Pebblepaw. He smiled as the white-and-brown tom acknowledged Sunpaw, now he knew what Sunpaw's name was, excellent. Well, the brown tabby probably wouldn't have denied him his name, but... Meh. He racked his mind. Nope, hadn't heard. "Hmm... You have white fur with some brown patches and blue eyes. Uh... Tricky. Snow...? Frostpaw? Geez, I dunno. Mudpaw? Birchpaw...? Branchpaw?" ulla

"Haa," Pebblepaw purred, he's sure trying! Glancing at the black furred tom,"Those are good names indeed!" He commented,"But no no.. Um here's a hint,"What do you call those things that lay on the ground? They're not light as a feather but they don't really move on their own either. They just stay where they are. Round and lumpy too." It was a hint and he thought he explained okay.

He sighed as Pebblepaw purred. Obviously none of his attempts had even been close. "Thanks." he meowed. "Uh... Stonepaw? Pebblepaw?" he guessed, flicking an ear. He really didn't expect to get it right this time as well, but Whatever-his-name-was-paw had given him a good clue. ulla

"Pebblepaw..!" he answered cheerfully, but now he just wanted to cringe whenever he brought up his birth name, ugh I think I should of been Stonepaw instead. Waving a tail pleased, he glanced at the two toms Sunpaw and Thistlepaw,"Soo.. Anything interesting lately?"

His face broke into a smile as Pebblepaw confirmed his second guess and his tail wagged along with the fellow apprentice. Thistlepaw lowered his muzzle sadly at Pebblepaw's question. Well... something 'interesting' had happened recently, but it wasn't a very nice thing. Mistpaw had informed him of his little sister, Dovekit's death, due to a snake and a TreeClan she-cat warrior - a TreeClanner repeated the shocked voice in his head - had quickened the death by slashing at her throat. As he recalled Mistpaw's words of melancholy and regret, anger bubbled up inside him. What he wouldn't give to rip out that warrior's throat and...! ulla

All of Thistlepaw's joy just disappeared after he asked such a question and Pebblepaw felt kind of awful now of even mentioning such a thing. You always say the wrong thing! He beat himself up subconsciously. Thistlepaw just had a sad look with nothing else said.. He flicked en ear, wondering..
Someone died? Was what crossed his mind, a sickness or worse?

"Yeah..." he mumbled quietly. He should tell Pebblepaw, but he didn't want to go over those dreadful details again... In his mind he pictured the monster's eyes glazed with bloodlust as their talon-like claws slid out and they lunged at his little sister. He saw Dovekit's blue eyes flash with fear and her pulse leap to its last beat. A growl rumbled softly in his belly as the imaginary-beast's claws sunk into the soft, vulnerable flesh of Dovekit's throat and the she-kit's tinny cry. He slumped into a crouch, head resting on his paws.
