An Old Friend (p)

[Ripplepaw]

Ripplepaw was walking through the clearing when he spotted the Nursery. His stomach sank when he thought of Ashkit, who he hadn't seen in what seemed like too long. I should go visit her! I hope I don't embarrass her or something... I mean, she probably has a lot of new friends or she's probably mad at me or- Ripplepaw stopped when he noticed he was outside of the entrance to the Nursery. For some reason, he tended to worry about everything, so he tried to push back the unwanted thoughts. He really wanted to see Ashkit.

It was around mid-day so there probably weren't any kittens sleeping, but even so the apprentice crept into the den, making sure not to make too much noise and watching his feet so that he wouldn't trip over a kitten. He seemed to be tripping a lot these days, much to his embarressment. "Ashkit... You in here?" He asked in a soft voice, noticing that a few kits actually did seem to be napping.

The aroma of the Nursery seemed very nostalgic, and although Ripplepaw was glad he was finally an apprentice, he enjoyed the thought of being so carefree. Although he had just gotten a ceremony, he knew that he would have more responsibility, but even so, he could still act childish. After all, he was a kit less than a moon ago.

Her ginger head lifted up and her ears pointed toward the entrance. Who was it? Ashkit rested her head on her paws and let out a huff. Her leg seemed to be doing better but it didn't matter. She hadn't made any friends since the last time she saw Ripplekit. Ripplekit had been gone for a while, too. Did he finally make it to the apprentice ranks? Maplekit was also gone. Had she grown up already and joined Ripplekit? Ashkit worried for herself and her friends. Ashkit... That sent a chill up her spine and she let out a squeak. "W-Who's there?" she mewed and backed up into a corner.

You in here? "Eek!" A monster came to get her! No, no, it was just Ripplepaw. Ashkit slowly crawled out of the corner and looked up at the cat that had entered the nursery. She stood up straight and stuck her nose out to the cat, sniffing him. Yeah, right. She couldn't remember his scent that well. His eyes... They were multi-colored like Ripplekit's. The right one was blue and the left was amber(?) "Ripple.. um.. paw?"

'Eek!'

Ripplepaw jumped and turned to see Ashkit, who had been the source of the screaming. The tom tensed, wondering if maybe she didn't want to see him. Maybe I should go...

'Ripple.. um.. paw?'

Ripplepaw relaxed, letting out a small sigh of relief before walking closer to his friend. "Yeah, it's me. How have you been Ashkit?" He asked, licking her ear in an attempt to calm her. "How have you been? Has your leg healed up mostly?" He asked, before widening his eyes. "Let me just say I am so sorry I haven't talked to you in so long-I was moved to the apprentices den and I've been kind of busy-I felt so guilty and I really hope you aren't mad at me!

Ashkit winced a little when her friend licked her ear. She nodded her head and licked Ripplepaw back. In her case, she licked his shoulder since she wasn't big enough to reach his ear. It had calmed her. Her heart was still racing. Not many kits were remembered by their apprentice friends. "I've been fine. Maplekit left.. I don't know where she went." Ashkit met a few other kits but they didn't get to talk that much. She did have an injured leg at the time; however, they tried to include her in their kit games.

She lifted her right paw up off the ground and inspected it. She stretched out her leg and padded at the ground. "Yep! All better, thanks!" she meowed and smiled at Ripplepaw, flicking her tail. "No, it's okay. I understand. Soon I'll be able to join you and maybe even Maplekit if that's where she disappeared to. Then, she is kind of rude for not trying to visit me, ha ha."

Ripplepaw thought for the slightest moment he had hurt Ashkit when she winced, but he relaxed when she returned the gesture.

'I've been fine. Maplekit left.. I don't know where she went.'

He frowned, but nodded. "Yeah, I haven't seen her in so long... I hope she's okay..." He began to think of all sorts of different things that might have happened to their friend. He shook his head. He was being over dramatic and he didn't need to worry Ashkit more.

"I'm glad your leg is better!" He purred, not wanting to voice that he had felt pretty guilty for letting her get hurt. It may have not been his fault, but he had blamed himself. "Maybe we can train together! You'll probably learn really fast! I'll bet you'll be the most skilled apprentice in Rockclan!" He laughed, nudging her with his forehead. "I'm sure Maplekit has a reason for not being around. Maybe we'll see here soon! Who knows?"
