Softkit walked out of the nursery and looked around. She saw an apprentice and slowly approached.

Dappledpaw had yet to hear from her mentor,
and went to the fresh kill pile to grab a fish.
She ate when she was bored, and unfortunately
enough, she was.

Her ears twitched, and she noticed a small kit
coming her way. They seemed a bit older than
a newborn, so maybe conversing wouldn't be as
dull as it was with kits sometimes. She wasn't
one to talk, since she was quite an obnoxious
kit during her manhood kithood.

As the kit made her way over to Dappledpaw, she
sat down, gnawing on the fish silently, then sat
it gingerly sat it down next to her. She offered
her best smile, then mewed, "Hello. I'm

Dappledpaw." She paused then continued.

"Who might you be?"

"I am Softkit." she replied.

[Dappledleaf]

Dappledpaw studied the kit for a moment. She
kind of resembled another animal, one that she
couldn't remember. Being a cat, you honestly
didn't learn much about other animals, except
for the ones you were hunted by, and hunted.

Her smile softened, and she meowed warmly,
"Nice to meet you, Softkit." She'd really
never known what to do with kits. Pausing
for a moment to think, she swished her tail,
then said, "Hmm... who's your mother,

Softkit?" Hoping it didn't really come off as

creepy, she was just curious in all honesty,

since she rarely met any of her siblings

anymore.

"Petalfur." she replied. "And you?"

[Dappledleaf]

Petalfur? Oh, that must've been one of the temp
queens. She tried not to show any disappointment,
as she was really hoping to meet one of her siblings.
Oh well...

She smiled at the kit. "That's a pretty name she has."
She sat down, wrapping her tail neatly around her paws,
then continued to eat her fish. In between bites, she
managed to say, "My mother is Mothbriar." She felt
proud to say her mother's name.

"Your mothers name is pretty as well." she said. She grabbed a vole and took a bite of the tinder meat.

"Thank you." she smiled at the kit's kind words.
"So, Softkit..." she paused, and realized the
she-kit was bigger than she appeared. Maybe she
was close to apprenticeship? "Are you close to
becoming an apprentice yet?"

She would've like to mentor her, but her own mentor
was so behind on things, which she couldn't blame
him for, that her training was stalled, it seemed.

"What would you like to do, Softkit?" She racked

her memory for games she'd played as a kit. "We

could play moss ball, warriors or I can show you

some fighting & hunting techniques. It's really up

to you."

Softpaw shook her head. "I really am not. I'm closer to a newborn kit." she replied.

"Could you teach me hunting tequniques?" she asked.

[Dappledleaf]

She nodded slowly. Interesting... I really
thought she was older, since her eyes are
open and all.

"Hmm..." she tried to recall some tips for
hunting. Then it struck her. "Try your best
to copy me, all right?" Dappledpaw slipped
into the crouch her mentors had taught her.
Hind legs tucked neatly under your belly,
make sure you're comfortable...

"When you crouch, make sure you're not super
uncomfortable, for one." she mewed, then went
on. "Second, keep your paws and legs tucked
neatly under you, or else your leap won't
have enough power."

She'd show her more once she got that down okay.
"Go ahead."

Softkit nodded and crouched down slowly. Her legs easily slipped into the proper position. "Like this?" she asked.

Dappledpaw checked her legs, then nudged one softly.
"Pull that leg under tighter underneath you,

otherwise, everything else looks fine."

She glanced at her tail and ears, which needed work.
"Flatten your ears close to your head, and keep

yourtail low to the ground, but not touching it."

Softkit nodded. She pulled her left hind leg under tighter and flattened her ears to her head. Her tail moved lower to the ground, but not touching it. "Good?"

Dappledpaw paused, then meowed. "Yeah, but

don't be so tense." When Softkit was still in

the crouch, she sighed then mewed,
"You can stop if you'd like now."
