Panda treaded lazily through her owners yard. She was about one to two months old now, and her younger sister, Cookie, wasn't too far behind. The insects buzzed loudly in the yard, and the distant barking of dogs made her sigh irritably.
Plopping down onto the warm grass, she began to sunbathe, until a shadow loomed over her. Blinking open her eyes, and squinting them at the source, her once hard gaze, which said 'I'm going to kill you,' softened. It was her sister, Cookie. She sat up, and ran a paw over herself to rid her pelt of grass and small twigs, then mewed. "Hey, Cookie."

Cookie poked her sister's black nose with her smaller paw, and sat down, twitching her nose. Her black muzzle twitched along with it.
Her sister'd been snoozing, something that seemed impressive to Cookie. She never got tired enough to do any such thing that wasn't full-on sleep.
The sisters looked vaguely alike, their colors just opposites--almost everywhere Panda was black, Cookie was white, and vice versa. She blinked round eyes at her sister, trying to read an expression--she wasn't angry? She didn't seem to be. Cookie could never tell.
"D'you want to do something?" she asked after a moment, squinting up at the sunlit sky.

[veronicaaa -- Benedict Cucumber? -runs in circles- -- anyways]
She rolled over, onto her belly, as her sister poked her face gently with her paw.
Her owners hadn't fed her in a bit, which was
somewhat worrisome, but she was sure they had only good intentions from the start.
"Do I want to do something?" she said, as if asking herself. "Well -" she hopped up quickly, and sat back on her haunches. "Sure. What's the harm?"

Cookie frowned. The harm? "I don't--I wasn't planning on there being any harm," she mewed, cocking her head--wait. She felt like she'd heard it before. Maybe it was an expression. Whoops.
"Never mind," she added a split second afterwards, shaking her head, pausing, and then shaking her head again. She glanced back at her sister. "You been fed in a while?"

Panda practically face-planted, although laying on her side, she couldn't. "Uh --" she mewed, until her sister corrected herself, and stuck her tongue out playfully.
Her expression changed quickly. "No..." she trailed off, then asked, "How about you?"

"Hey!" Cookie protested--the faceplant, at least, she recognized--Panda'd done it enough to her. She poked her sister's head as she bent down, miffed.
Cookie's stomach growled as if in response, and she frowned at it, curling up and stretching out. "No," she admitted. "D'you think that's bad?" She looked up at her older sister--not by much, but she always seemed to have more answers than she did. "D'you think it means anything?"

[oooh, fun!]
Do I think it's bad? She paused uncertainly, then mewed, "I'm not so sure..."
She prodded her belly hungrily. "No -- yeah, I think it's bad." What were their owners doing?

(i'm baaaa-aaaccckkk)
Cookie flopped onto her back, mildly distressed--it was never good when Panda didn't have the answers. Well, she supposed that wasn't always true--sometimes she did think Panda's ego got up a bit, but not often enough for Cookie to look forward to instances Panda could be taken down a peg.
Her anxiety levels rose a bit, though she showed none of it on her face--as usual. She wasn't quite sure she could. "Maybe they've forgotten us," she'd suggested matter-of-factly. In the same tone of voice, she added, "Or maybe they've just decided they don't care." She tried to think of how they'd been acting recently--if it was any different. She supposed a bit more vacant--a bit more cold. She couldn't quite tell. It was only in the actions.
"What do we do?" she asked her sister, looking up in the air as she ran through other ways to get food. They could beg at other houses--they had several friend's who's owners gave them quite a bit too much food (and the cats' roundness was certainly showing). She thought of the strays they sometimes saw stalking other live things--that seemed a possibility, though a bit of an outlandish one.
Perhaps they would soon have no choice. The thought chilled her.

Panda glanced back over her shoulder, and glared suspiciously at their owners home. "How could they just not care?" she got up, and took a somewhat shaky breath, "we're their pets."
Pets. She remembered all the rumors about strays forming... clans, from other cats in the neighborhood. Now the word pet left a bad taste in her mouth.
"Well..." she paused to think. Sure, asking around for food from other houses could work, but for how long? She thought to suggest running away, but there seemed to be more cons than there were pros. "Look, you out of all people cats, would know we can't be fed from others owners forever." I cannot believe I'm suggesting this. "Maybe we should run away."
Where to? She wasn't sure yet, but their owners were obviously trying to harm them in some way. That's how it appeared to her at least.
[welcome back! weren't you supposed to come back on the 31st though? also, we should talk to other cats/post in threads to boost our posts]

(i wush wrong and yes we should)
Cookie shrugged. "Twolegs get tired of things quickly." She tried to think of her owners in an emotional light, but truth be told, she'd never really felt a bond between them that exceeded dependance. That could be from her seeming inability to show emotion, but then she knew that wasn't true--she loved Panda more than words but she never showed it just the same, but she knew she was capable of it.
Cookie could only offer another shrug. "There are plenty of ways of getting food." You just wouldn't like a lot of them.
Cookie's face didn't change, but she felt surprise blossom in her chest at Panda's suggestion. Panda had always known what was right, but here... She wasn't sure. She cocked her head to the side as she flicked swamp-green eyes up to the sky, pondering it. She turned back to her sister after a moment with a bob of her head, saying rapidly, "Logically, it makes sense, but it also seems like the sort of thing for a silly kit to do--to abandon something without giving it a chance even though--hm. Thinking rationally, it's been long enough for us to assume they're not going to feed us again. So we shouldn't--" She broke off and shut her eyes for a second.
With them still shut, she mewed, "We shouldn't stay here. But if we ran, where would we run?" She flicked her eyes open. "Of course, I mean ran in a figurative manner. We wouldn't really need to run," she explained.
"Options," she mewed. "Some other cat's house. But like you said, we can't depend on other people forever." The tiniest frown creased her face. "We can't depend on Twolegs forever." With a series of rapid blinks, she looked up at her sister. "What were you thinking?"

It was true. Many others cats in the twolegplace's neighborhood spoke of amazing bonds they'd made with their owners. She didn't feel any sort of bond, which only made her more aware of how Cookie felt.
What was I thinking? She felt as if there really were butterflies in her stomach. She was sure Cookie would confirm her the least bit sane when she said this. "You've heard of the strays in 'clans,' right?" she shook her head at the idea.
"Look." she meowed. "I'm not saying we should do it, I'm just suggesting it." Glancing around, she looked at the small door they'd used to enter in and out of the house. "Maybe we could sneak inside and look around..." It didn't seem like the monster car was there.
She didn't like the idea, but if they were going to run away, they might need to learn some helpful skills so they could get by without dying on the first day. "What do you say?"

Cookie looked at her sister sharply. "Yes," she said slowly. "I have."
She nodded a little. "I--it's a good suggestion. But we don't know if they'd take us. They don't need housecats."
She glanced back at their Twoleg's house. "No, they're not home," she agreed "We can go. But what are we looking for?" She padded after her sister as they headed inside.

"I don't know... I just thought maybe they would. I've heard of them taking in cats before, but I guess we shouldn't leave based off rumors," she meowed as her eyes narrowed.
Once they were inside, she looked around curiously, then mewed somewhat distantly now, "Uh, food, maybe?" She was unsure. "They had been feeding us. I doubt they'd have thrown it away."
The soft cottony stuff underneath her paws felt nice, and the house smelt of the so-called 'cookies,' two-legs made. "If we can't find food, maybe we can look for human food, not all of it tastes too bad."
As they were searching, Panda noticed two small cages, about the size of Cookie and herself and her eyes widened. "What do you think those are for?"

(too lazy to color)
"No. We could--" She broke off dramatically and paused, then resumed in the same tone, "Investigate. If we could meet one of them and ask if they'd take us in--" She broke off, nodding along to herself.
Cookie breathed in the scent of her house as they entered. She could feel it on her fur, and all of a sudden, she could feel the crushing, very real weight of the scent. She had to close her eyes for a moment to block it off, and then wondered how she'd never realised how heavy Twoleg scent was. "I've never had Twoleg food," she mewed softly. The scent in the air--the one she had deduced she was named after--certainly smelled interesting if not delicious, and certainly not inedible.
Cookie froze at the sight of the crates, her mind racing as she flitted through every memory. "Do you remember," she mewed without moving, "when we saw that other cat, Peter or something, get carried out in that, and we thought he was going to the vet, and he didn't come back, though, and when we asked the other cats say when a cat gets too old--but he wasn't old. He wasn't old at all."
She frowned. She knew they weren't sick. But she couldn't think of another reason for the cages. Perhaps they were just going to the vet... But maybe they were going somewhere else.
Besides, she didn't want to visit the Cutter. Cats changed after that visit--they got fat, and lazy. Cookie didn't have a great concept of the future, but she didn't want to spend it wallowing in her own fat.

[crap im late dontkillme]
"Peter?" She froze momentarily, then let out a shaky breath. "Oh, yeah... I do remember."
Panda bristled at the thought of their twolegs doing such a thing. She wondered if the little twolegs knew the older twolegs planned to do something bad. Maybe they weren't... but right now--nothing made her think otherwise.
Cookie obviously had great distaste for the so-called vet. She was about to ask her if she was all right until a whiff of something strong hit her nose, and she heard the door close. The twolegs were back.
