Yellowkit cracked open one viridian eye, stretching out by the entrance of the nursery. A yawn cracked his maw. The young kit stretched out some more, a low purr rumbling through his throat. Outside, a light drizzle enveloped the camp. Ominous looking clouds hung in the distance by IceClan territory. Yellowkit's eyes narrowed in distaste and his nose wrinkled slightly.
The young calico did not like rain.

Icekit had woken up from a surprisingly nightmare-free night the second water had begun to fall from the sky, his silver eyes looking with fear at the entrance of the den as he sat up in his nest. Water doesn't have a mind of its own, right? It won't try to kill me, will it? he thought, his mind a little frazzled from sleep. Oh dear CloudClan what if it starts storming?! Were all doomed! he whimpered a bit and fell limply back onto the moss in despair. His nerves were once against stirred as a purr came from a nearby nest. The tabby-pointed kitten looked with wide eyes in the direction the purr came from, his paranoid ears hearing a low growl in it's place. Yup. That's it. Doomed, he thought with a whimper.

Yellowkit twitched slightly, but his ears flicked when he heard a slight whimper. All right, who's there? he thought irritably, glancing up with icy, almost killer green eyes. They glanced over a pale gray tomcat, who was practically trying to hide in his moss nest. Yellowkit blinked slowly, gaze softening. Another whimper had the calico tom twitch again.
Getting up, the long legged tomcat stretched languidly before trotting over and plopping himself down next to the cat. Not caring if he somehow petrified the tomcat into thinking he was some kind of monster.
"Hi." he greeted bluntly.

Icekit froze when the sound of shuffling nearby reached his ears. The fur along his spine spiked, and his gray gaze frantically searched the room directly in front of him for the source. He didn't dare turn his head, though, in case the source of the noise was some gigantic monster than would pounce upon him the moment he made any movement. Please don't kill me. I really, really don't wanna die, he mentally pleaded to the imaginary monster, almost jumping into the air in fright when someone sat next to him. His head snapped to the side, taking in the sight of the other kitten with slightly relief.
"H-Hi," Icekit replied, a shaky smile making it's way onto his features as he realized he was in no immediate danger, "you h-had me sc-scared there for a moment," he mewed softly, a nervous chuckle escaping him, "I-I'm Icekit, by the way." He glanced down at his paws, shuffling them a bit before timidly looking back up at the calico.

Yellowkit blinked slowly, almost lazily as if he was quite bored. Jeeze, was this cat diagnosed with some kind of anxiety thing? A wide yawn split his maw into two, before he blinked at the tomcat beside him. "Hmm.." narrowed green eyes swept over the pale gray tom, and the calico cat's tail twitched slightly. Why would he be scared? He thought lazily, bluntly.
The pale gray cat- no, Icekit- appeared to be kind of timid, further increasing Yellowkit's slight ire. Why would anyone be scared of him? Yellowkit let out a brief sigh, before replying in a forced gentle tone.
"I didn't mean to scare you." the tomcat soothed softly. "You looked like you needed some company. By the by, it's nice to meet you, Icy." he had abruptly given the tom a nickname, and decided that they would be best friends. No questions asked. "My name's Yellowkit," he continued in a quite pleasant voice. "And we're going to be the best of friends."

"I-It's fine," Icekit mewed, his usual stutter making his voice shake, "it do-doesn't take mu-much to scare me," he gave a soft chuckle. He even knew how easily frightened he was, and yet it didn't stop him from jumping at every paw-step he heard.
Icy? the tabby-pointed tom twitched his left ear curiously, his head tilting slightly to the side because of the action. He had never been called anything other than his given name, but it felt nice to be referred to as something different. It provoked a sense a familiarity that made a small smile flicker momentarily across the kit's features.
"Really?" Icekit's gray eyes gleamed silver for a moment, a shy smile creeping onto his face. He had never really made a friend before; he reasoned it was because he was too timid to approach others, or because others got annoyed with his constant freaking out, or because he didn't usually play games because he thought that they were dangerous..

Yellowkit smiled rather cheerfully, if not a bit manically. Yes! Icekit was his new minion official pet best friend! "I bet." the calico remarked casually, bright green eyes shining mischievously.
"Yep! Best friends, in fact!" now his plan for taking over the world was being set in motion! Yellowkit's smile turned sharklike briefly as he took in the pale gray tom. Glancing at the tomcat, Yellowkit decided that Icekit would be the perfect friend. They were complete opposites, according to the calico cat. Opposites attract right?
The 'being scared' part he would have to rectify though..
"Soo.." for the first time since he sat down next to Icekit, Yellowkit kind of looked awkward. "What do you like to do?" What wasn't better than getting to know the shy cat?

Icekit tipped his head to the side. He wasn't used to being asked questions. "Um, well, us-usually I-I st-stay in-inside the nursery," he admitted, his stutter dying down a bit as he became a little more comfortable, "so-sometimes I-I go outside and try to find flowers, but I-I s-saw a beetle on one the other day, s-so I-I think I-I'm gonna st-stay away from them for awhile. At least until leaf-fall comes," if I make it to leaf-fall, a voice in his head rang, but he pushed it away and continued speaking, "I also like to look around for all the best entrances and exits in camp; s-so that I-I know all the possible ways an enemy can s-sn-sneak i-in, and which route will lead to the quickest escape... Oh, I-I also came up with a s-song once," his brow furrowed and looked he at his paws, "but I-I s-seemed to have forgot i-it." His life didn't sound very interesting, now that Icekit voiced it aloud. Usually his time was spent fretting over some new thing to be scared of.

Yellowkit pinned his green gaze on Icekit, tail twitching slightly. "Have you ever tried to prank someone before?" he inquired, a gleam of mischievousness in his eyes. "And beetles aren't so bad! I'll kill 'em off for ya, 'kay?"
The tomkit stretched languidly, looking quite comical as he wriggled on the floor. "N'ahhhhhh... This feels good." he mewed, a deep purr rumbling through out his throat. One eye was pinned on his new pale gray friend, well he was technically his best friend too, keeping a protective eye on him.
A small smile lit his face. "S'okay. I forget stuff all the time!" his bright green eyes gleamed mischievously. "One time, I forgot I was playing with butterflies and ended up face-planting in the mud."

"W-Well, no," Icekit reflexively looked down at his tabby striped paws, "I-I don't think I-I'd have the courage to prank so-someone on my own." Yellowkit probably didn't catch the fleeting glint that danced momentarily across the kitten's optics. Underneath his constant fretting, panic, and fear, Icekit actually enjoyed a good joke. Of course, his own sense of humor was as dead as the prey in the fresh-kill pile. "You will?" a relieved smile lit of Icekit's features for a moment, before the familiar spark of fear started working its way through the tom's mind, "just b-be careful about i-it, okay? I-I don't think the beetles around here are poisonous, b-but I-I know s-some can f-fly. Just make s-sure they don't fly i-into your eye, crawl i-into your brain, and mind-control you from the in-inside," Icekit ranted slightly, a shiver running along his spine at the thought of evil mind-controlling beetles forcing cats to stay in dark, confined spaces for hours, or stand on really high ledges, or, CloudClan forbid, roll around in dust.
Icekit blinked a bit as Yellowkit wriggled around before giving a lopsided grin, his wiry frame shaking a bit as a chuckled noiselessly at his friends antics. His amusement was cut short, however, as a soft sneeze shook his frame. It was barley noticeable, but the action immediately sent Icekit's mind into a whirlwind. Oh dear gosh I'm dying. I just sneezed. I could have greencough! Or whitecough! Which one was more dangerous again? Oh, who cares, both mean certain death! his mind raged. Sniffing a bit, the pale gray tom had to clench his jaw to keep from whining fearfully. Forcing himself to believe that it was just a bit dusty, he focused his attention back on Yellowkit.
"Really? Where you okay? You didn't get hurt, did you?" the fluffy kitten question, admiration lightning up his gray eyes. He knew that he could never dream of playing with butterflie; they were the fourth scariest bug (next to moths, grasshoppers, and spiders). Plus dirt, which of course was akin to mud, carried stuff in it that made cats sick. So the fact that Yellowkit was currently unscathed amazed the other tom.

(okay, i should prolly feel sorry for icekit, but that post was just amusing. i tried not to laugh aloud for my dad, who's in a meeting on the phone.)
Yellowkit smirked slightly. "Really now?" he looked thoughtful for a moment. "Then I will help you!" he declared firmly. "And yes. I will protect you from the.. mind-controlling beetles. And don't worry! I'll be super careful! I'll smash 'em with my feet!"
...The beetle thing worried him. What if a beetle crept inside his foot fur, snaked itself up his bones, through his organs, and through his eyeballs and into his brains? Okay, if he was about to start thinking like Icekit, this little gray tomcat was truly his best friend. His head jerked up, green eyes coming back into awareness when Icekit sneezed.
Eyeing him protectively, Yellowkit blinked when Icekit seemingly brushed it off. Now knowing him, Yellowkit kind of wondered if he really was okay.
"I was fine! I didn't get hurt." Yellowkit hesitated. "I only got muddy, so that wasn't much. I definitely scared off the butterflies though." The calico tom wasn't aware Icekit was actually scared of a lot of things, so this might prove even more admiring.
"What's your favorite color?" Yellowkit smiled at Icekit. "My favorite's yellow. I mean, it's like sunshine yellow. It's so bright!" This also proved Yellowkit's ignorance further when he didn't catch the 'yellow' pun.
