I puffed out my cheeks and let out a sigh. No one was around or awake for a matter 'o fact.  I leaned against the nursery wall with my bottom lip stuck out in a pout.  It was late at night and I'd woken up from an awful dream.  I was honestly hoping to find company to help calm me down, but no one would wake up!

A pale tabby tom stomped into the nursery, looking rather irritated. He'd just been minding his own business, sniffing around the dark camp and checking out the stars, when some stupid calico elder had the nerve to tell him that he had to go back inside! So what if he'd been messing around near the old coot's den? Adder just wanted to see if he could poke a hole through the wall with a twig he'd found.

He let out a muffled hiss, glanced around the den, and glared at the first cat he saw. This happened to be Mousekit. "What're you looking at?" Adderkit snapped, not really caring about the fact that he'd been the one to look at Mouse first.

I had watched my brother from the nursery be scolded by a calico old elder. I laughed as the older cat told him to go back to the nursery. I watched Adderkit come back and I panicked, not wanting him to see me laughing, nor watching him. I bounded around the nursery finding somewhere to hide. I pretended to sleep but was too energetic to stay seated. I found myself beside some kit, grinning, before I heard my brother ask he kit a question.

"Hello!"

I felt my fur ruffle and my eyes widened as I jumped.  Were the monsters here to get me?  I blinked furiously and looked around in the dark to spot to kittens.  I felt my fur flatten back down and I let out a quiet breath of relief.  I cocked my head to the side let out an unresponsive hum.  "Uh, well, I really wasn't looking at anything to be honest.  It's sorta hard to see... it's scary dark in here..."  I shivered, feeling like I'd get pounced on by a monster at any give moment.  "I'm Mousekit."

As if the other tom had sensed Adder getting angry and wanted to be around for the show, Viper popped up next to the stranger. He gritted his teeth. It was hard to be legitimately angry at his brother - sometimes he'd yell, but he never meant it. Therefore, the Ragamuffin couldn't properly set his rage loose on Mousekit. He gave a grudging nod of greeting towards Viperkit before returning his attention to Mouse.

"Adderkit," he muttered as he flexed his tiny claws. Maybe ripping up the nursery's mossy floor would calm him down a bit.

"So who was the old guy?" I asked rudely to Adderkit. I watched the scene unfold safely from the comfort of the nursery, not worrying about getting scolded myself. I stretched, yawning. "Viperkit!" I felt the need to blurt out my name. Considering everyone else was it seemed appropriate. I sat down and wrapped my tail around my paws.

"It's dark but now there's a party of three." I smiled.

My eyes went round with curiosity as they both mentioned their names.  "Snakes? Gosh, please don't eat me— Hehe, get it?"  I gave a shy grin and a small chuckle at my obviously bad joke.  I looked over at Viperkit and grinned.  "Yeah, I kept feeling like something was going to get me!  I couldn't sleep because I was scared... I think I feel okay now that you two are here though!"  I paused to wrap my tail around my paws and give an embarrassed lick to my chest fur.  "We can take on a monster together, right?"

"No idea. Some blind dude," Adderkit told Viperkit. He didn't really bother keeping track of his Clanmates' names. Which was probably not a good habit to get into, but the truth was that he didn't care - especially not about some bossy elder.

The kitten's jade-colored gaze flickered between Mouse and Viper. He wasn't too keen on a party; still felt irritated about the incident out in the clearing. When he was old enough to become an apprentice, he wasn't gonna clean those grumpy cats' nests even if his mentor yelled at him for it!

"Might have to if you keep making cracks like that," he commented with a roll of his eyes. "I'd claw a monster's eyes out if it messed with me!"

"Depends, how do you taste?" I stuck out my tongue, laughing. I looked over at my brother. "He looked kinda cranky." I snorted, grinning. "When I'm an elder I'm gonna be a totally awesome elder. Not the cranks and crabs we have now." I shook my head, laughing at my brother's comment. It was true. I'd have to eat him too if he kept making bad jokes like that.

"What if I am the monster!" I lashed my tail playfully.

I tapped my tail on the ground and gave a thoughtful hum.  "I probably taste delicio— I, uh, mean... I probably taste really horrible!"  Okay, my lie probably didn't fool anyone there, but a guy could try.  I quirked a 'brow' and tilted my head to the side.  "I'm going to be a nice elder and be mated with a nice—"  My words faltered an I pressed my lips together. What was I about to say?  "Never mind."

My eyes widened and my fur fluffed up.  I dove behind the 'safety' of Adderkit, knowing he'd probably bite my ear off for doing so.  "N-no way!  That clawing its eyes out thing would be pretty useful right about now, Adderkit," I said as I peeked around the tomcat,

"You'd be a lame monster," he started to point out, but Mouse took the opportunity to scamper behind him. Adderkit growled in exasperation. The older kitten was peeking out on his deaf side, so Adder could only hear bits of whatever he was saying.

It didn't really matter anyway. The pale tom rounded on Mousekit, taking a half-step back, and swatted at Mouse with barely-sheathed claws. "Don't you hide behind me!"

I stuck my tongue out at Adderkit. "You'd be uh..!! Lamer." I lashed my tail. I watched Mousekit dart behind Adderkit. "See I scared him!" I showed my teeth in a toothy grin and swiped a paw towards both of them. "I'm a great monster. I'm gonna eat both of you!"

I laughed at Mousekit when my brother scolded him. "Hahaha! Mousekit you chose the wrong cat-shield. Better watch out." I crouched down, tail flicking side to side.
