DROUGHT OF DEATHCLAN As the world swirled and slowly faded around him, Drought could think of nothing but the fact that he had been betrayed.
Not just by anyone, either. Vale was the one cat who he thought he could trust more than anyone else. They'd spent so much time together; Drought had always known him as a friend. Had it all been an act?
Vaguely, as if from far away, he could hear the traitor declaring a state of anarchy. Then there were many voices - it seemed that all the commotion had drawn several DeathClanners in. They began arguing amongst themselves. Drought couldn't make out the words anymore, though it didn't matter. All he had ever worked for was being destroyed.
At least the pain was fading now. Drought took one final breath, blood bubbling from the fatal wound. Then he shuddered from head to tail and suddenly went limp, never to move again.

Ash Ash blinked, and heard movement from Drought as she tuned out some of the voices. Maybe he's still alive! she thought, her eyes narrowed as she took a step toward his body. The tabby froze as he felt suddenly cold, she figured it was too late. She folded her ears and bowed her head, Drought, why did you have to die? The tabby fluffed up, and frowned at the ones who were opponents.

Eris noticed an older cat, a fully grown adult cat rush to the leaders' side. He was already gone, though. She watched as the light faded from his eyes, as did the hope from the female cats' who stood in front of her.
Vengeance wasn't good. It was driven by madness, fear and anger. Vengeance was not a necessity, but simply an act of despair. The cat didn't seem too dangerous. Not at the exact moment at least.
"I'm sorry for the loss of your leader," she began, eyes flickering away from her gaze, intentionally avoiding eye contact mainly because it made her uncomfortable. Drought wasn't necessarily her leader, as she'd joined around the time of his death, unfortunately.
What she'd witnessed was an act of betrayal, though. The cat that had taken the "mad king's" life was a friend, from what she'd seen, or had been. Maybe he hadn't been to begin with. Eris wasn't looking for vengeance, but her very name meant discord and chaos. She'd been named such for a reason, too.

(wow dramatic post is dramatic)
What's going on?
Something was happening. That was what lay in her gut when Artemis woke up, restless from a late sleep. She blinked, her movements almost sluggish as she forced herself to her feet. She looked outside her den, good ear pricked, before she stiffened.
She didn't know how, but she was moving, faster as she began to run, run, run. She couldn't think. She couldn't feel. She could only run because something had to be going on or else why else would there be so much noise?
The clearing. That was where it was from. When Artemis reached it, she was too late.
The first thing she saw was Drought. Then Badger, then Vale. She disregarded everyone else. All she saw was Drought on the ground, with Badger above him, and his words slid through her head like water.
Leaderless.
"No!" The scream tore itself from her throat. Any sense of composure or coolness with her, usually so perfectly poised, was shattered. It was Drought lying there, Drought was dying. The tom she had known since he was a kit, almost her own son.
She ran, heedless of anything, no longer caring, and dropped, shoving past the cats already by his side. Next to Drought, she could already see the life gone from his eyes, the shudder of his now dead body. Everything in her felt numb, as cold as his fur.
"Drought." Her voice was cracked, almost but not completely a sob, as she pressed her head against the ground, and she could not contain her grief. "Drought, Drought..."

Wisp was making her daily walk when she had the feeling something was wrong, more than usual.
She countined walking but broke into a run once she smelled death and blood. It could be Rift or her bud Sock, or just another deathclanner, it was called DEATHclan after all. Once she made it to the clearing she saw a crowd surrounding a body, her leaders. She didn't cry out or go into a state of shock, but kept running til she joined the crowd. She found Rift arguing with a older tom and some other cat wailing over Drought. She turned to Rift and meowed, "Sorry I'mlate for the party.." She muttered.

Rift turned her back to Badger to watch as Drought died. She could almost see his anger is his eyes. Rift knew that his precious clan had just killed their own leader. Querulous she padded up to him and whispered, "I'm sorry. We all are." Hopefully Drought had heard her. She knew that rest of DeathClan had. She turned towards the entrance of the camp to see her friend and ally Wisp enter. She had missed a lot of the meeting, but if the fate of DeathClan came down to a fight, without a doubt Wisp would be on Rift's side. "It's not a party." Rift meowed, sounding distant.

Badger had been just about to reply to Crow, another gnat out to speak against him, when Artemis' shriek crackled into the clearing like a lightning bolt. Badger watched as the younger cat rushed over to Drought and began pitifully crying his name. Drought was clearly dead now, and Badger couldn't help but let a small smile slip. No matter what these gnats thought, he had just defeated Deathclans former downfall with Vale and Gnaw. Life felt good, for him at least.
Artemis, on the other hand, was clearly grieving. Badger hadn't considered how close she was to Drought. It was entirely possible that this would complicate the alliance he had forged with Artemis for so, so long. Not that it'd be anything new to the grey tabby-tom. He had lost all of his previous allies in one way or another. He padded up to Artemis and let out a little clicking sound. "Artemis, if you'd like, I will go fetch some rose petals for him. They do make the air smell so much sweeter." He said gently before padding to the side, out of reach of a potential smack.
In reality he actually did quite mean well, both in terms of Drought's murder and the comforting of Artemis. Badger had once called Drought an ally, perhaps not the closest, but still an ally. What he did, however, he had done in the name of peace and sanity for Deathclan. Now he needed to maintain it by helping out his clan-mate.

Ash Ash found Artemis coming over, and known that she known Drought longer. She sighed, flicking her tail over and over ad she then spotted another cat, "Do you think I'm stupid? Apparently you do. I've been here longer that some, shorter than some, but I do think Drought was a good leader." The tabby flicked her tail, "You know felines are against you and your mouse brained friends, don't try to spark a fight, that would lead to more cats dying." The tabby felt outraged. "I don't have time to hear an arguing kit."
Ash turned away, glancing toward Drought's body, believing DeathClan isn't going to be anything like she was used to.

Eris got up instinctively from her chosen spot, which was under a tree, in the shade. Was the youngling really threatening the adult? Her judgement surely was clouded! Eris was no better than the uncivilized cat though she knew well enough not to make derogatory remarks and false claims.
Who was she to call the dead king incompetent anyway? She'd heard much of him, and all the despair he'd caused. For her to say he'd done so little really baffled her. Have you seen his post count, sister? Such ignorance regarding all of Drought's time spent as DeathClans' ruler wouldn't be tolerated.
Clearing her throat, she approached the she-cat, though remained a couple tail-lengths away, in case the simple conversation she was about to establish escalated into something she wished it not to.
"Who are you to insult Drought, youngling?" she asked, her eyebrows raised, tail swaying in an erratic manner, sweeping up small clouds of dust every time it did so. "Of course, I'm not one to talk am I? Seeing as I'm also a youngling." the dark she-cat added matter-of-factly.
Looking over the rest of the younglings, she paused, raising a tentative paw. "As far as I've seen, Badger and his comrades did have good intentions. For you all to swarm the camp in the intention of taking Drought's place is, well... it's low, really. They'd finally given you the courage, hadn't they?"
She scoffed softly, shaking her head. "Although they did have good intentions, yes..." she trailed off. "What Vale took from Drought, though... no, what he stole was any ability to trust. You should be truly ashamed." With that, she swept her tail up, sat down, and let it lay gingerly on her paws. He'd have to live with betraying Drought. That was really just if he ever had intentions of befriending him the first place, though.
Even if the two adults, Ash, and Artemis weren't with her, or wanting to do anything with her, she would support them regardless. Their friend (or how Artemis saw him, a son) was taken. Not only their friend (or son), though... it was also their leader.

It took quite a bit of willpower for Crow to hold her tongue when Badger took little obvious initiative, in her opinion, to respond to her own accusation. With a harsh glare to the few cats who had murdered Drought, Crow sat down in the dirt once more, her tail flicking impatiently beside her. Crow was annoyed deeply now after hearing the other comments that Drought had died, but she would lay it aside to stay alive. "Perhaps a compromise would be sufficient?"Crow suggested, swinging her teal eyes from each cat to the next. "Obviously neither side can, nor will, feel as though surrendering to the rival's. I propose we give Drought a proper burial that a leader deserves. Then Deathclan can continue to be ruled as has been newly proclaimed by... you three." After throwing a glance in the direction of Badger, Gnaw, and Vale, Crow took a pause to narrow her eyes inquisitively . "Any objections?

Everything sounded distant around Artemis, as if she was hearing all the noise from underwater. By this point, she was shaking with her sobs, her head now pressing against Drought's fur. Something inside her wanted to scoff at how pathetic she must look, crying over an overthrown leader while everyone else was talking, arguing, none of them as deeply shaken by his death because none of them had known him like she had. But she ignored it, just like she ignored all the other DeathClanners in the clearing, because she had lost someone and loss was something she'd never been able to get used to, no matter how much she'd seen of it.
Dimly, she heard Badger, his voice like a douse of cold water, and her entire body stiffened. She slowly straightened up, her eyes almost as impassive as they usually were.
She wanted to laugh. After participating in the murder of Drought, this was what he was doing? Comforting her in her grief? She would have preferred it if he'd tried to kill her, too, for showing she'd cared for the leader he'd decided to overthrow. At least that would make sense.
But Artemis laughed rarely. Instead, she smiled at Badger. It was an empty smile, like a mask, and as dead as the look in her eyes.
"Speak to me again, Badger," she said softly, her voice toneless, "and I will kill you."
She turned back to Drought's body, finally looking around at the others in the clearing. Among them were cats who looked barely older than kits. Vaguely, she recognized one apprentice-aged cat. Crow, wasn't it? Crow was the one talking about a "compromise", something about a proper burial for Drought and then letting DeathClan be ruled by Badger and his accomplices. Vale, and someone named Gnaw.
"I will take responsibility for burial," Artemis said flatly. "Anyone who wishes to help, feel free to do so."
She then bent down, clamping her jaws onto the scruff of Drought's neck. She would bury him, as she didn't trust anyone else with the job. It would spare him the indignity of his body being left for the crows, and would at least give her something to focus on. With that, she began to pull his body out of the clearing.

Rift watched as more and more cats argued with each other. Then a knew cat, her name Artemis, said they would start the burial ceremony. Her friend had just arrived, but it seems like Rift would have to leave. Rift owed Drought. "I'll be right back." Rift whispered the Wisp. Then she padded over to Drought to help Artemis with burying him. She silently lift up the other side of his body.

VENDETTA OF DEATHCLAN Vendetta's crooked smile faded as he watched the scene unfold.
On one paw, Drought had finally finished dying, and the resulting chaos was beautiful. So many arguments, so many possibilities! The black cat had no intention of trying to claim power for himself - rather, he liked to assist in toppling governments, then leave the locals to clean up afterward. It was such fun. Of course, he couldn't claim credit for this particular revolution.
The problem was that these cats seemed to immediately want to set up a new monarchy. Vendetta made a rather disgruntled noise. What had been the point, then? He glanced between all the strangers with narrowed eyes, not understanding. It looked like the group was dividing. Revolutionaries, grievers, wildcards…
He moved to sit off to the side, figuring he would simply wait and watch unless an interesting opportunity presented itself. WORDS: 143 || WRITTEN FOR: DeathClan NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Crow could have waited and heard the rest of the repetitive chatter, but she knew that it was more respectful to honor the life of her... former.... leader. Dipping her head in farewell, which was to no one in particular, Crow followed silently behind the two other older cats, passing the retched pool of blood that lay in the clearing as a deafening reminder. The stain would last many days, throughout at least a few rains, before the traces of the king's death were all but a grave and a memory.
| Artemis and Rift - - - Do you guys want to start a new thread for the burial, just say they buried him, or continue it in this thread (though that might be confusing considering this is the clearing..

Eris simply grunted. She wasn't worth dealing with, and if she couldn't prove to her what actually important role the tom had played, well... she was the one who was ignorant, and a lost cause in her opinion. Her time would be well spent somewhere else, but the red she-cat was amusing. Perhaps she would run into her later. That would be interesting indeed.
