Unity Unity sighed and purred, the color of her pelt changing now, rather than being a blinding grey it became a glowing silver. The loner had always looked better in the dark rather than the burning light of the sun. Not to mention she preferred the night anytime.
Silver gaze now drawn on the brighter cat in front of her she finally removed herself from the bush and stretched. Eyes calm and curious. "So where you from?" The female mewed at long last. there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

Lily looked ahead without a change in her calm expression.
Nothing fazed her enough to cause an outward reaction. She made it a point to hide her emotions, which could also be used against her. Actually, a lot of things could compromise her ability to function. Pretty much every aspect of being a cat. How... Troublesome. Unity's pelt had faded to a rather pleasant generally silver color, rippling back forth between dark and light.
Blue met silver as their gazes met. Unity emerged from the bush fully. Then she posed a question. Lily gave a smile. A small one, fake if you looked carefully. But convincing enough that for most cats would believe she was content. The truth was, it sent a message.
'Do you really think I'm going to be honest?' "Oh... Somewhere." She answered smartly.

Unity Being smart this cat was, responding with small answer that gave absolutely no information. How was Unity supposed to know a cat if they refused to let themselves be known. Some cats just had to open up sometimes.
Sighing, Unity shrugged and mewed, "well if you care to know I'm basically from around the canyon."
Never actually knowing her real parents she picked a general location from where she could still remember. "Ever since the river incident... I can't exactly remember much." there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

From the sigh, Lily could tell Unity disliked her reserved nature.
She wasn't going to say anything about that. Being open and honest with other cats had its merits. However, the main problem was you were too open, allowing cats in so they could potential shred your heart with their claws. If you were closed off, then no cat could come in. It was a bit lonely... But at least there was nothing to cause you pain.
"Canyon? I think I know that area." She commented. She decided not to say anything about what Unity was calling the 'river incident.' If Lily wasn't going to be forthcoming with information, she doubted the multicolor she-cat was going to return that until she opened up.
Which wasn't going to happen.

Unity "Yeah, the canyon." She sighed, there really wasn't much to say about it. The incident was in the past and this particular loner being herself, liked to live in the present.
"I can't hold everything against you, you know." Unity purred, getting to her paws and beginning to stretch her legs. They were shorter, and she was built more small and bulkily. "Not every tiny bit of information can be used as firepower against you." there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

Lily was a cat who lived wherever she needed to be.
She wouldn't dwell in the past if she needed to be grounded for a fight. She wouldn't deal in the present if the concerns about the future were imperative. Most commonly, she'd live in the present whilst dwelling on the past. She wasn't sure if it... Was alright for her to live like that.
She snorted. "There will be cats who are far more cunning than you or I. The best way to say safe is to say few things. Or nothing at all." She watched Unity with her eyes scrutinizing. "You're too trusting."

Unity She had to give it to Lily, she liked to play hard-ball. Flicking her tail she smiled, looking towards the cloud that was still covering the cloud above them. "Adds to my charm."
Unity enjoyed talking about good things that weren't depressing, everyone needed that in their lives. So she was open when she needed it, and more closed when she didn't. there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

Lily sniffed.
"I must admit, you're correct in that." She admitted. Cats were drawn to those who trusted. Unfortuantely, cats was rather broad. You never knew who'd you end up attracting. Lily preferred choosing who to interact with. She could stick around for a short while with the seemingly nice ones, like Unity. She could always bail if it was some jerk who was sexist or something stupid like that.
She looked skywards and frowned at the cloud. She still wasn't too enthusiastic about the loss of sunlight. Of course, it was obviously comfortable like this for her conversational partner. Didn't mean she had to enjoy it as well.

Unity Feeling the conversation gradually dropped the loner parted her jaws, lifting her nose to the sky and drinking in the scents around them. Closing her eyes she let her sense of smell do the work rather than her sight. Vole... vole... shrew... mouse...
"You know what I could really go for right now?" She mewed, eyes slightly brighter now as she finally lowered her gaze back to Lily. "Some shrew." Look at this wonderful laziness. nette of gs

Lily sighed wistfully.
"I prefer rabbit to be perfectly honest... I do not believe you can find shrews in the plains, however. You can find some voles if you know where to look though." She meowed. "Are there shrew in the canyon?"
((Your laziness is nothing compared to mine.))

Unity Unity shrugged, "If you snoop around where the borders to the clans are you never know what you'll find."
Usually the best prey came from around their borders, although she made sure to stay clear out of their way. These forest cats were heavily trained and armed. Get into a tussle with one or two of them and you should practically mutter your last words on the spot.
"Hmm, I could do with vole." there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

Lily shrugged back.
"Mm... The risks outweigh the rewards. I can make do here and the prey is fine here. Further, I can easily avoid confrontations here. Those clan cats are pricklier than a thorn bush and always itching for a fight." She explained.
She was aware that the clans more or less took the territory that carried the best prey, most likely because of their greediness and large numbers. At least they didn't take everything and left some territory neutral for loners to occupy. Life would've been impossible if the clans reigned over all. She internally shuddered at the thought of being constantly on the run, having to forever dodge patrols. She was glad life was as it was.
She tilted her head to the side. "I thought you wanted shrew."

Unity Well, yes she had wanted shrew and in fact it was the thing she was really looking forward to for whenever she could get her claws on one. Only at this time it wasn't completely a possibility. She didn't scent any nearby, one was feint but had left ages ago, probably down the hole by now.
"Eh, voles are fatter and easier, I'll get more of a mouthful anyways." Shrugging she got to her paws, parting her jaws again and began following the scent of the nearest vole. But first she perked her ears and turned her head about her neck, peering back at the loner behind her. "Well? You coming?" there are two kinds of people in the world; those who look to the future, and those who look to the past. nette of gs

Lily stood up on her paws, but made to motions to follow the other loner.
She gave a curious look to Unity. "I would imagine my presence would be counter-productive. Multiple cats can set off such sensitive and small prey, such as voles." She pointed out. "Unless you wish to hunt something larger, where we would benefit from a tag team approach."

Unity Unity tilted her head, stopping in her tracks and turning to face the loner again; ears perked and pushed forward with her tail tentatively in the air. "Hmm," She purred, silver eyes dancing with curiosity now, "I'm listening."
