Silverpaw padded quietly into the nursery, making sure not to disturb any kits or queens who could be sleeping. She, unlike most cats, liked performing her apprentice duties, but she had always preferred helping out in the nursery to the elder's den, where most other apprentices went. She felt that the kits could be a bigger handful for the queens, and besides, with most apprentices going to the elder's den, the nursery was quite undermaintained. Looking critically around the den, she tried to spot any place which needed some help.

Otterkit looked up from his nest, his eyes tired and sleepy. His golden orbs finally landed on Silverpaw, and was immediately awake. "Silverpaw!" he greeted, jumping out of his nest and racing over to her. "Are you busy? Are you doing a warrior duty for Sunfish? Is he mad? Are you in trouble?? Do you have time to play??" he bombarded her with questions, curious as to why his friend was in the nursery.

Hazekit slowly woke up, hearing Otterkit's voice ringing through the nursery as he was yelling out loud the questions towards Silverpaw, in turn it woke Hazekit up and such then had to shake to get the extra moss bits out of his fur. The main reason he woke up was because it was already day time anyways. Once he was done getting the moss off of himself and then slowly and groggily padded over to the two and blinked his eyes a few times before keeping them open and looking between the two, staying quiet.

Silverpaw smiled gently to herself as the two kits came towards her. She liked these two kits. As usual, Otterkit was way louder than Hazekit. She supposed that Hazekit was naturally a quiet cat. "Shush Otterkit. Some cats might still be sleeping." Silverpaw mewed to Otterkit, noticing that Hazekit looked quite sleepy. "And to answer your question, not really. I'm not in any trouble. I just thought I could help out in the den. I quite enjoy this. My original idea was to clean out the den, but I suppose I could take you off you mothers' paws for a bit. Want to help me clean the den? Or would you rather we play a game?" Silverpaw glanced further into the den to see if the kits' mothers was there, and if they would mind.

Hazekit was obviously still tired, but awake enough to be sentient, he was kin to Fallensnow and as far as he could remember Otterkit was kin to Rowensky. Which he would have put in the opinion on cleaning the den, which would give both him and Otterkit practice for if they ever had to collect moss or clean the nursery in their future, but he remained quiet as he knew Otterkit would either have a better idea or just overall have a suggestion. Hazekit wasn't really the most talkative either, since he was always around Otterkit, who most definitely spoke a lot, he usually let him be the voice of the both of them. They almost seemed photo opposites, Hazekit was quiet and thoughtful while Otterkit was loud and playful, a fitting pair of friends with both perks and defects.

Silverpaw saw the quiet light of an idea in Hazekit's mind, but the quiet kit said nothing. It bothered Silverpaw sometimes that the kit was so reliant on Otterkit for ideas and as a voice. However, she could also see that both of them did make a good pair. Normally, she would encourage Hazekit to speak up, but she felt that in this case it would be better to encourage their friendship. Glancing at Otterkit, she waited for his response.

Otterkit groaned. "I don't want to clean! That sounds lame!"

Hazekit knew that one was coming, and for a second lowered his ears, almost in shame. Yet he then quickly perked them back up as he remembered who he was dealing with, the spastic, playful loudmouth, Otterkit. Which he just then rolled his eyes and forgot about being upset for a second and just then looked to Silverpaw, not having any other ideas.

Silverpaw heard Otterkit's reply and saw Hazekit crumple slightly in disappointment. Not wanting to make any kit upset, she quickly decided on a compromise. It wasn't a very good one, but it would work all the same. "Why don't we mix up these two activities. We can go and gather moss, and pretend the moss is our enemy. Just don't be too violent, or you might have to sleep on ripped up moss! And any moss that's left over can go to making a moss ball." Silverpaw flicked her tail to the corner of the nursery that she had unofficial dubbed as the moss ball corner as a kit. She knew that she wouldn't be able to take the kits out of camp, but there was a tiny patch of soft moss growing on a stone in camp which would work just as well.

"Oooh!" said Otterkit, thinking that was fun.

Hazekit didn't know what to think really, but just went along with the idea.

Gesturing with her tail for the two kits to follow her, Silverpaw padded out into the camp and towards the mossy rock. Beginning to rip the moss off the rock with sheathed claws, she murmured to the kits,"If you are doing this on soil, you should keep your claws sheathed to avoid bringing up too much soil and roots. Here it doesn't really matter." Silverpaw took care to only rip up the moss on the higher parts of the rock, leaving the lower bits for the kits. It wasn't as if she was that much bigger than the kits, but she still did it on principle. Dropping the moss onto the ground beside her, she meowed,"One of you can help me rip this moss off. The other, please pick all the thorns and dead leaves out of the moss. You wouldn't want to be sleeping on that! And try not to get a thorn stuck in your paw. I'll have to bring you to the medicine cat's den." Silverpaw decided that later on, she would grab a bird from the fresh-kill pile and strip it of its feathers to line the nests with. Birds weren't exactly common in IceClan due to how difficult they were to catch, but sometimes the warriors got lucky.

Hazekit just thought for a second and quickly remembered how reckless Otterpaw can be so he just sat up straight and quickly offered to go clean out the thorns and dead leaves because of how he paid a little more attention than the reckless Otterpaw.

Silverpaw smiled at Hazekit in approval. In truth, she had expected Hazekit to take that task not only because he was normally more likely to take the more "boring" task, but also because he seemed like the kind of cat to "spare" Otterkit. At first glance, it seemed to any cat that Otterkit would be Hazekit's protector, but in truth Hazekit protected Otterkit too, albeit in a quieter way. "Thanks Hazekit! And be careful!" She mewed, turning back to Otterkit and showing him how to pull the moss off the stone.

Otterkit grinned and started to pull the moss off, like Silverpaw showed him. He was completely unaware of how Hazekit had saved him.
