Being younger wasn't always better, but being younger wasn't always a bad thing. However, being young and a runt brought about some difficulties. Sock had figured out at a very young age that surviving meant fighting, at least in his case. He had been born in the plains with two siblings, who had both been bigger and stronger than him, but bigger and stronger didn't matter if you weren't smart enough to keep your heads on. His mother had died in birthing him and his siblings. His father had taught them how to survive, then he had left. From there it was just a matter of which one of them would learn and which one of them would perish. Needless to say Sock had learned.
So now he was here, wading through mud that could easily swallow him whole. The fact that he was so small made the mud all the more dangerous, but he wanted to catch a frog, or maybe a lizard, or some other reptilian animal. Sock wasn't exactly sure why he had wanted to catch these animals, but he wanted them and darn it he was going to catch them. Then he was going to eat them, no matter how gross they were. He smirked as he heard something croak to his left. Now the true hunt began.
Sock turned his head towards the noise and saw the frog he had been searching for. He watched it for a long time as it slowly grew closer to him. As he waited longer he worried that he would sink too far into the mud and be lost forever, but then the frog was close enough and he lunged. He landed near it, but not on it. With a flash of his paw he hooked the frog. It died as he bit into it. It seemed Sock had been right in assuming it wouldn't be the best tasting thing. He scrunched up his nose as he began looking around for somewhere to sit and eat his catch.

Rift was simply walking in the swamp, looking for other cats, when she saw him. Rift was new to DeathClan, and she hadn't have time to introduce herself to other cats. So, it was no surprise that she had never seen him before. Rift quickly noticed that the cat she was watching was hunting, and sat politely, waiting for him to finish. As soon as he had caught his prey and was looking for a place to eat it, Rift walked up to the young tom. Then she meowed, "Hello. I hope I am not bothering you, but may I ask for your name?"

Sock was still trudging through the mud when he looked up and saw a cat watching him. He was about jump into a defensive when she spoke. She didn't seem mean or hostile in any way so Sock kept moving with the frog clamped in his mouth. Once he got closer to the she-cat the ground solidified and he was able to take a break and sit down. He spit out the frog and nodded to the other cat.
"I'm Sock." He stated and waved one black paw lazily to show off the "socks" adorned on them. "Why do you ask?" Sock was new to Deathclan as well, and not many people really wanted to know who he was. He didn't really care either. Sock kept a healthy distance away from the other cat. He didn't like being touched so keeping his distance from others was usually the best option for Sock.

"Nice to meet you Sock. My name is Rift." she meowed. "I asked you your name because I would like to get to know my fellow Clanmates, wouldn't you?" Rift wasn't sure if this cat was on the social or antisocial side of DeathClan, but still, she had to start with someone, and she had happened to have stumbled upon Sock.

Sock listened closely to the other cat's reasoning for wanting his name. He could understand why she would want his name, but that didn't really comfort him. "I don't really care to meet new cats." He stated then he looked down at his frog he had caught. He supposed that he should probably do the nice thing now that he was actually talking to the other cat. "I caught a frog, it's pretty gross, but if you want it you can have it." He offered. Sock had only wanted the animal for the hunt, not really for food. He had no qualms with giving up the frog to the other cat.

Rift knew that this cat would probably shy off from her, and he did. DeathClanners were never that social, but still, she had her hopes. Oh well. "You can keep the frog. I don't really like its taste either." she meowed. It was true that rift didn't like frog, but if she had caught it she wouldn't of eaten it. But it wasn't polite to take other cats' prey.

Sock shrugged and bit the frog in half. He swallowed the half quickly, not bothering to chew it much or taste it. The frog was gross and slimy and Sock made a face after he swallowed it. "Ech, like I said it isn't my favourite food." He stated. Sock wrapped his tail around his paws and looked at the other cat, trying to gauge what she was like and if he should stay and talk to her or just leave. She seemed nice, but nice didn't always mean that he wanted to talk to her.

Rift listened intently as Sock explained that he didn't like frog either. Pretty ironic, the first DeathClanner that she meant, that wasn't Drought, had something in common with her. The silver tabby decided it was time to change the subject though. Small talk about frogs, in all honesty, was pretty boring. "So, where did you live before you came to DeathClan?" Rift asked, trying to strike up a conversation.
(Have you checked out the plot thread in the Camp sub board? Everyone's supposed to post I already did.)

After Rift asked the next question he frowned a little. His past living situation hadn't been his favourite, but she hadn't asked for specifics. "I lived in the plains." He stated simply, prefering not to get into a large rant about his family and how he hated his brother and what not. "What about you?" He asked. As he asked that he ate the last of his frog. His nose scruntched a little, but he tried not to think of the taste.
[i've seen it im just trying to think of how my cat would join in and react.]

Rift watched in amusement as Sock ate the rest of his frog. "Well I lived in the plains with another cat for a time, but then they drove me out so I had no choice button go to the Badlands." Rift meowed. Sock was lucky that he got to stay in the plains, but then again, Rift probably had more experience then Sock because he only ever lived in the plains.

Sock listened as Rift explained how she had once lived in the plains too. So they had something in common. The plains were a good place to live, or an easy place to live. He had recently met a cat who thought that those two things weren't the same. "How are you enjoying Deathclan so far?" He asked. Sock had no feelings towards the group he was supposed to be a part of. He was there more for the added back up.

Rift was glad that Sock didn't go farther into her history. She might of started crying. Rift was a tough cat, but that was a touchy subject. She sighed in relief as Sock changed the subject. "Hmm, my favorite part about DeathClan so far is the freedom to go anywhere in the non-clan territories. What's yours?" Rift replied to Sock's question. What she was saying was true, but she didn't explain it that well.

Rift's favourite thing about Deathclan. The freedom was definitely a big perk of being in Deathclan. There was nobody to tell you where to live or even how to live. When Rift asked him what his favourite part was Sock didn't even have to think. "The security." He muttered. It probably sounded weird considering that Deathclan was dangerous even for the cats in the pseudo clan, but to Sock he found that bearing the cats within the clan was better than battling alone. Safety in numbers, even if the safety was from those numbers.

Sock's favorite part of DeathClan was the security, eh? She supposed that, in part, was true. But she knew that DeathClan often turned on itself. "Yes, I suppose the security here is better then being a loner or a rogue. More cats to fight alongside." Rift meowed. "But, there are more enemies here. Have you ever realized that the Clans might attack us? They have reasons to."

As Rift talked about his idea of security she stated that the clans might attack. Sock chuckled a little. "I heard that the clans have this rule about not killing other cats, so even if we fight them it's likely I won't die." He stated. Sock had thought this out before joining Deathclan. He had considered the dangers and decided that being in Deathclan was the safest thing for him right now. Maybe later he would decide otherwise, but for now that was how he felt.
