Relaxing //closed

[Robinstar]

Robinstar had recently been appointed as leader. Though it did have its downs, he found himself enjoying the job immensely. The fact that his deputy was he best fried helped with that a little bit. Despite what others may have thought, Robin didn't just elect Sunfish because the two were close. He believed that the orange tabby would be a great deputy. 

The IceClan leader had decided to take a break. The bones of a small animal from the prey pile lay between his paws as he lounged on a rock, lazily watching over camp. It was nice to just lay down and relax for once. He looked over as footsteps approached, raising one fictional eyebrow as he awaited someone to show.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

Addervenom stomped into camp with a scowl on his muzzle, which wasn't too uncommon. This time he was irritated because he hadn't been able to find the right herb in the territory during his morning search. The only patch he knew of had been killed by early frost… which meant they'd be running low for at least a while.

He had paused by the camp entrance to think, and upon glancing up, the medicine cat noticed that somebody was staring. Wait, wasn't that the new leader of this Clan? Adder tried to fake a smile as he prowled over to Robinstar.

"Hi. We haven't actually met before, have we?"

Robinstar blinked as the cat approached him. The tabby had noticed the medicine cat's frustration at the entrance. He nodded in greeting. "Hello," he responded, moving to a sitting position as Adder continued to speak. The leader tilted his head, thinking, before shaking his head. "No, I don't believe so." Robinstar had never really known any of the Medicine Cats, but maybe it would be a smart idea to change that. After all, they were a big part of the Clan and e was to work with them. Didn't CloudClan give messages through them as well? He'd definitely heard of it before. Of course, he wouldn't want to become close to the medicine cat as many leaders were (he didn't want to become close to anyone, really) but it would be nice to know him.

"Is everything alright? You looked a little upset when you walked into Camp," Robin asked, though no sign of concern showed on his face. It was always carefully wiped clean of any expression.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

He grunted in acknowledgement. "I'm Addervenom, then," stated the former rogue flatly. Robinfrost… or, well, he supposed it was Robinstar now… had been the one to give Adder his apprentice ceremony, but it was possible that the older tom hadn't remembered his name. It didn't matter much either way. Addervenom had never been good with names, given his background, and he wasn't too excited about having to paste on a pleasant face for the leader.

Need to do it anyway. It's all part of the plan.

"Er - yes, it's fine. I just couldn't find any tansy out there; the weather killed it already," Adder explained with a flick of one ear. He didn't honestly care that much about the plants, but it was an excuse for some of his lingering anger over his father's death.

Robinstar nodded. "Yes, I know," he responded. Of course he knew—after all, he was the Medicine Cat. The leader didn't know many of the cats in the Clan, or their names, but he did remember the names of those who were recently appointed a new position such as Medicine Cat. "Robinstar." He doubted Addervenom had forgotten Robin's name, as he did ceremonies at least once a week.

"Tansy? Mm. I can always send out a patrol to help you look if you need it," the leader offered with a nonchalant shrug. "What's tansy used for, exactly?" He inquired, raising his eyes to Addervenom's face.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

"I suppose a few extra sets of paws wouldn't hurt," Adder responded. He would've preferred to be left in peace during his work, but then again, why handle all of the burden if he could just order a few eager apprentices to run around searching for the tansy?

Maybe a patrol wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.

"Oh, um. It's good for coughing from sore throats, and as a greencough preventative. I think it's also good to try in incidents of poisoning, like if somebody gets bitten by a snake." The medicine cat hated sounding uncertain about things, but keeping track of all the herbs' uses was difficult, especially since he was new to this healing business. He thought it lucky that he'd recalled anything.

NOTES - Yep! Adder is absolutely up to no good. Also, this is unrelated, but would you be interested in setting up a group message for all of IceClan's staffers? Might be a good way to coordinate and set up stuff.

Robinstar nodded in thoughtful agreement. "I'll see what I can do," he promised. More often than not, during the day, apprentices were off training with their mentors, and warriors would rather join border or hunting patrols. He was sure he could scrounge up a few to help the new medicine cat. He turned his gaze back to look out over camp, turning back when Adder began his explanation.

The young tom did seem uncertain about te uses of the herb, but the fact that he'd already remembered gave Robin a pleasant surprise. Perhaps we'll be left in good hands, he thought, watching the tabby. "I suspect you're settling in well, then?" He inquired, wondering how he was getting along with Flamingthorn.

He twitched his ears. Instinctively, Addervenom wanted to irritably snap back with a sarcastic comment about how he was doing just great, but managed to stop himself before the words could tumble out of his jaws. Antagonizing IceClan's leader was not the way to make sure he'd succeed.

"Yeah, I'm great," he stated instead. All these stupid niceties pained him. The younger feline took a moment to cast his gaze around camp while he tried to think of more small talk.

"So how's being the leader?"

Robinstar nodded. "Good," he said, voice flat. The leader was rarely, if ever, seen with any emotion or heard with any emotion in his voice. He'd carefully trained himself over his years as a loner to be this way, all based on his belief. Don't get close to anyone. Most of his close friends believed that he should stop, and live his life. But he never heeded their advice. He wouldn't open up to anyone. It was a promise he'd made to himself long ago, and he'd kept it.

"Fine," he responded with a small shrug. Some got bored of Robinstar when he gave such simple answers, and he wondered if Addervenom was the same. He didn't really care, either way, even though it would be good to speak to the Medicine Cat. "Easier than before. I actually have help now."

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

Huh, was Robinstar not one for small talk either? Thank Darkpool for that. If he was going to try getting in this cat's good books, Addervenom would've driven himself mad by trying to obey all the common pleasantries. They were pointless and rather irritating in his eyes.

"Great," meowed the healer distractedly. "Alright, listen, I shouldn't be telling you this, but…" He trailed off, then leaned forward conspiratorially. "I'd watch myself around Sunfish if I were you. He tries to act all nice but he's not really, I've seen him. I wouldn't even trust him as far as I could throw him."

Despite the fact that Adder was being intentionally manipulative, there was a slight grain of truth in his words. He shrugged in an attempt at restoring the casual air before speaking again. "Just saying. You didn't hear it from me, by the way."

When Addervenom started with 'Alright, listen, I shouldn't be telling you this, but..." It caused Robinstar to turn his head. He narrowed his eyes, not fully trusting the Medicine Cat. Then again, he didn't trust anyone unless he knew them well. An example of one of those cats would be Sunfish, so when Addervenom mentioned his name, he immediately shook his head. "You may be lying, for what reason I have no idea, or you may actually think you're telling the truth, but I know it isn't," he told him blatantly. 

He watched the Medicine Cat's face for another moment before looking back over the Clan. "I know him much better than you ever will." He didn't want to delve into the past, especially with a stranger, so he moved on to another topic. "Besides, what would make you think such a thing?" He asked, voice growing slightly cold. You could say he was overprotective.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

Well. He'd known this wasn't going to be so easy - after all, who would choose a deputy without being close to them? But Addervenom had faced greater challenges before. He arranged his expression into something resembling hurt, as if Robinstar's rejection of his heartfelt warning was a source of great pain. Maybe he should've been an actor.

"It is true, though! You haven't seen some of the things he's done. I nearly bled to death as an apprentice because of Sunfish - a turtle bit me, and rather than helping, he sat there and made fun of me." Again, a half-truth; the story was correct but rather skewed to make the deputy look bad.

"If he cares so little about the lives of young cats, I shudder to think of how he might value our warriors. Or anyone, for that matter. Either you don't know him as well as you'd like to claim, or you're equally sadistic. Which one is it?"

Robinstar slowly turned to look at Addervenom, no sign of doubt showing on his face. "I still don't believe you. Maybe I'll ask him," he said flatly with a shrug. He wholeheartedly believed that his best friend wasn't a bad person. He'd known Sunfish for a long time, and he'd never seen him purposefully do anything upsetting. And even if he had, Robin would remain loyal to his friend—it was how he had always been and always would be.

"Neither," he responded, tilting his head. He thought of many different retorts and such that he could spit back at the tom (of course, that was just him being way too protective over his friend) but he bit them back, watching Addervenom levelly.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN

Adder let out a silent stream of profanity in his thoughts. Why was nothing working? He'd tried manipulative facts, he'd tried emotional appeals, and it was like trying to convince a boulder to move itself.

Had someone tipped off the leader before all this? Maybe Robin had already heard about him through a Clanmate's complaints - the medicine cat had certainly managed to make enough enemies so far. But it still didn't make sense. Addervenom would expect Robinstar to be at least a little suspicious of Sunfish right now. Time to back off and recalculate; perhaps try again another day.

"By all means, please go ahead," he replied just as evenly. "Perhaps you'll discover something new. Now, I've got herbs to sort out, but do consider what I've said." And with that, Adder turned to pad towards his den, disappearing inside a few moments later.
