Dewpaw hesitantly made her way into the den that she had never actually been in before. As a kit she had always been content to stay in the nursery or perhaps a little ways outside it in the camp, but never before had she ventured in the apprentice's den. Now that was about to immediately change, with the change in rank. In her jaws she carried a clump of moss and other materials she had tried to scrounge together as materials to use in order to make a proper nest. It had been a bit of an awkward process when gathering the materials, but eventually she had managed to gather some materials properly. It was almost instinctive when knowing the proper materials to use, though, which had been fortunate, but actually gathering them had been the challenge. Aside from that unpleasant procedure, however, she now felt even more timid and uncertain while entering the apprentice's den. This was a shared den, she was an apprentice, she belonged here now along with her new denmates. Yet, Dewpaw still felt strange about the whole new procedures and way things were, she hardly felt like an apprentice yet anyways, since she still didn't know how to hunt and provide for the clan, much less herself, and having this uncertainty made her almost feel just like a kit still. Shaking aside these doubts and unpleasant internal tensions, the apprentice shuffled inside the den, and once finding a spot that was a bit distanced from the other nests, and seemed in a rather pleasant shady spot, she quickly made her way there, and spat out the large amount of moss and other materials she had been clenching tightly in her jaws, almost gagging after doing this, but with a determined expression, the small gray shecat dashed outside of the den again, and fetched some more materials she had left outside temporarily.
She dropped the other materials too with a small gasp of relief that the particular unpleasantness was over, then stared down at the heap of materials distastefully. She slowly leaned down, and nudged it with her paw, then with a grunt, began to form it with both paws, trying to make it into a comfortable resting spot for herself. She had watched older apprentices form nests in the nursery, and those were much bigger, so it couldn't be hard to just make one meant for herself, one cat. Another thing Dewpaw hadn't exactly considered, sleeping on her own from now on. She had knew it would happen eventually whenever sleeping in the nursery, and the instinctual restlessness that she had felt for the past moon was another signal of it, but now she felt quite uncertain about the prospect, and lonely. She didn't feel like she was ready to defend for herself yet without relying on safety, in the form of her mother and other protectors close by, and she didn't feel safe at the moment here. Yet there was still a definite pride that the young cat still felt despite that, and a feeling of independence that made her feel slightly better about living in the apprentice's den now. While working rather busily, however, Dewpaw looked up, and tried to despondently look around for other cats perhaps, or any other kind of company. Being aware and knowing of other apprentices and fellow cats nearby might be reassuring enough at the moment for her, and a sort of comfort during that time, especially if the other apprentices turned out to be friendly.
