It had been some time since her daughter Shadefrost had died in Iceclan. She'd known about it for some time, but considering Shadefrost had come to hate her, Redfern had never taken the time to pay her respects. Now she was finally willing to cross the border between Rockclan and Iceclan. Not necessarily to go all the way into the Iceclan camp, no, she just wanted to be close to one of her eldest daughters for a time.
With a small sigh the Rockclan warrior sat, pulling her tail around her white paws. Tilting her head, she fixed her gaze on the darkening sky and smiled slightly. Hopefully this visit wouldn't turn into a battle if anyone stumbled upon her.

Silvercloud was out for a walk. For no particular reason in fact. She had just felt a little cooped up in camp, especially since all her apprentice seemed to be running off on her. Where in the name of Cloudclan could they have gone anyway? Silvercloud shrugged. She truly had no idea. But that had led her to be padding near the border between Iceclan and Rockclan. She had always felt that Rockclan was the clan most like Iceclan, and so preferred to visit it regularly. Today though, there seemed to be something a little off. Rock clan scent seemed to be penetrating a little too deep into Iceclan territory. Deciding to explore it further, Silvercloud tracked the scent trail, eventually stumbling upon a lone Rockclan warrior. Her suspicions were immediately aroused at that, for it was highly unusual for warriors of another clan to be entering clan territory. Still, she held her attack. She could only scent one warrior, and said warrior seemed a little too engrossed in stargazing to be simultaneously invading Iceclan. Silvercloud had always been a trusting cat, maybe a little too trusting, but she would give this cat the benefit of the doubt. Stepping up to the strange cat warily, she murmured softly, "Well, hello. I'm Silvercloud. Who are you, and what are you doing on Iceclan territory?"

When Redfern detected the first sounds of approach, she considered simply running and hoping for the best. At this stage she knew every clan as well as her own, and was quite capable of disappearing. Still, she had only lived visited Iceclan in the past, and had not lived in it, like she had Fireclan and Rockclan. Which meant she'd likely still be at a disadvantage. Besides, she wasn't finished yet, and didn't really want to go anywhere. If a battle arose, she could deal with it.
The senior warrior turned her head as a much younger female approached. She sat, tensed for battle, yet the attack never came. Instead, there was conversation? Redfern was half surprised and half dismayed. Back when she was this she-cat's age, they would be neck-deep in bloody battle by now. Not that she missed the bloodshed. But it was hard to see things so far changed.
"I am paying my respects to someone I loved," she replied stiffly, having no desire to share any more of her business with a hostile warrior, even if it was Redfern that was supposedly doing the wrong thing here. "Are you going to chase me away?"

Silvercloud dipped her head in quiet respect and mourning for the cat that she didn't know. It was sad indeed, to find a loved one on the other side of a border, and daring to cross it even, to pay respects to them. Well, at least this cat didn't seem inclined to attack her. Sighing, Silvercloud sat down a respectable distance away from the strange cat. It wasn't good to be alone with one's thoughts, especially not on a day like this. Even so, Silvercloud had an obligation to her clan not to let this cat go unwatched. "No, I'm not. I respect your desire to pay respects to one you have loved, even if I cannot empathise with it. I'll still have to stay here though, to make sure that you don't have any ulterior motives. I mean no disrespect by it." Letting her voice dwindle off, Silvercloud sat in silence.
(Sorry for the shortness of this!)

Redfern tried not to be offended by the other she-cat's polite manner. It wasn't pity, it was manners, she told herself. And really she was lucky that this wasn't ending in bloodshed. Though her daughter would have probably loved that herself. Nodding stiffly in thanks, Redfern turned her head away. It felt too much like she was being coddled for feeling sorrow, and in a way she was. She was trespassing onto hostile territory and was now under the protection of this she-cat. It was irritating. Or she was just too proud.
"I'm sure the clan mourned in their own right. They probably loved her more than I did anyway," she murmured with an off-hand flick of her tail. "I have no qualms with you keeping me company, but you'll probably be subject to my ramblings because of it." Not that she was going to apologize for such a thing. If the warrior hadn't shown up she would have simply talked to herself.
"I'm Redfern; though I doubt you've heard of me. Very few of the younger generation have."

Silvercloud sighed as the other cat seemed to be insulted, almost, at her attitude. But she didn't hold it against the cat. After all, she had lost a loved one, and having to be watched over and pitied by a stranger was obviously not the best situation. Silvercloud almost thought that she should leave, but that might be even more insulting. Listening intently to the warrior, Redfern as she introduced herself to be, Silvercloud tried to strain her memory to recall the passing of a cat in Iceclan, but drew a blank. Frankly, she couldn't remember a thing. It wasn't particularly bad though. She was young, and it could just as easily have happened a long time ago. In the same fashion, she realised that she hadn't heard of Redfern either. Silvercloud felt severely out of her depth here. Maybe she simply didn't know enough. "Well, I'm sure you loved her as much as any Iceclan cat. Just a question, did the passing happen very long ago? I don't recall it, but I wasn't born all too many seasons ago. And I don't mind your ramblings at all. Redfern, you are. Might I simply ask, what did you do that the older generation would have heard of you?" Silvercloud leant forward a little, intrigued to hear the answer. After all, it wasn't every day that one met a Rockclan cat, let alone a famous one of sorts.

She wasn't exactly surprised that this warrior was lacking some of her history. It was a topic often glossed over in the nursery, and the Iceclan elders weren't exactly friendly or cooperative. Besides, her story, and Redspirit's, happened so long before that she was sure any who actually remembered it wished they didn't.
"Her name was Shadefrost. She was the head queen in your nursery, but this was before your deputy Robinfrost became Robinstar, and even before your previous deputy Dustpetal appeared." Redfern explained, thinking it was pretty safe to assume the black warrior hadn't been around for those events.
She flicked her tail dismissively, a small smile forming. "Oh, not much I'm afraid. I ride in history on the coattails of my mate and his brother. Of the few noteworthy things I have done alone, the largest I can think of was that I almost instigated a war between Iceclan and Fireclan, and truly that wasn't my fault." She explained, attempting not to laugh at the same time.

Silvercloud smiled as the other warrior explained her life, glad that Redfern didn't seem to hold it against her that she had a sad dearth of knowledge. In fact, she almost seemed to be laughing. Well, it's still better than her wallowing in her misery. For now though, she pondered the tale that Redfern had told. Shadefrost, the head queen. Well, maybe she could ask Maplefrost about it. Hopefully he didn't snap at her. Ot might bring up bad memories though. Sighing, she decided not to. At least not for now. It had probably been a long time ago anyway. She couldn't recall a time in which Robinstar hadn't been at least deputy, and it was strangely humbling to think that, even after she thought she had experienced a lot, there were still generations of cats that had come after her, and there would be generations more. Wait... start a war? Blinking hard, she studied Redfern with sudden interest. What could this cat do to start a war? Redfern didn't seem like the type to cross borders or instigate leaders, after all. Quickly, Silvercloud withdrew that statement. After all, what was Redfern doing now but crossing borders. Still. "A war? How in the name of Cloudclan did you manage that?" By now, Silvercloud was simply giggling at the hilarity of a war being started, or almost started, by a mere warrior.

Surprised by how amused the warrior seemed by the notion of a war, Redfern quickly found herself laughing as well. Now that she was older, it was easy to look back on such things with humor. "Oh, it truly wasn't my fault," she giggled, shaking her head. Even if it was story-time with a stranger, she didn't want to seem the one to blame for almost beginning a war.
"I was a kit at the time; born in Fireclan by the way," she began, almost forgetting to add that important detail. "Iceclan launched a raid on our camp, and me, being a rather reckless kit, tried to fight as well. An apprentice Sandpaw and a warrior.....Soot something captured me and carried me away," she explained with a purr. "Darkstar didn't take kindly to that, obviously."
Though almost making away with one kit was meager, compared to how Drought and Deathclan had kidnapped a kit from every clan only a few seasons ago. "Luckily I got home safely. I didn't leave Fireclan till I was a warrior."
She flicked her ears back bashfully. "Though I do apologize, you probably didn't come out here for a history lesson. I bet all of my stories are boring."

Silvercloud nodded in understanding as Redfern told the tale of the war. Somehow, it didn't surprise her anymore that the warrior had come from another clan. Maybe it was simply because so many cats these days seemed to come from other clans, travelling around to meet mates, and even make friends. Especially now that it had been decreed that elders could travel. The clans were on closer terms each day, and it was beautiful to see indeed. Maybe this could prevent more war, more suffering. Still though, she found the events that Redfern spoke of abhorrent. She knew that Deathclan had launched raids and carried kits away before, but it almost seemed like a farfetched dream to her, told by elders only as a cautionary tale to disobedient kits. The fact that even Iceclan warriors could stoop to such a low chilled her. She didn't know the warrior involved, but it was detestable that they could go against the warrior code like that. Even if provoked, kits were sacred, and only a coward would harm them. Still musing over this issue, Silvercloud turned to Redfern and sighed. "No no, they're not boring at all. Indeed, it has taught me some new things. Though if Iceclan hans't already, I would like to apologise on their behalf for kidnapping you." She hoped that her clan had at least been the ones to return the kit, and that Fireclan hadn't needed to snatch Redfern back. That would be even worse for them.

Redfern waved her tail dismissively. At this point it was too late for apologies, and she was far beyond the point of needing one. At the time it had seemed nothing more than a harmless adventure so in her mind, there had been nothing to apologize for in the first place. "That's a rather serious head you've got on your shoulders," she noted, smiling. "I've not met many who are as considerate as you." Offer apologies from dead cats seasons past? Now that was something to laugh at and take note of.
Since Silvercloud didn't seem to be minding the talking, and it was actually helping to cheer Redfern up, she saw no harm in continuing. "Is there anything else you wanted to know? Or did you want to hear me continue speaking? If it is a bother I don't mind getting a whack on the head you know, I've been told on numerous occasions that I ramble."
Notes? So sorry for the late reply!

If she could have blushed, she would have at Redfern's statement. Maybe what she had said was a little weird, but she thought that it was a polite thing to do. And she was truly sorry, for both for the kidnapping and for having those rose-tinted glasses on and not seeing the inherent flaws in every clan. She had, as a kit and as an apprentice, thought her own clan was perfect, and obviously know she knew it mustn't be true. And she was apologising for that view of hers. Hearing Redfern speak again, she hurriedly rushed to reassure the older warrior. "No no no, It's been really interesting." And it was true, that she had learnt much. However, now came the question of what else to ask. Surely, this warrior had many thoughts, experiences, and bits of advice. But Silvercloud just didn't know the right questions. "I don't really know what to ask. Do you have any bits of advice?" She knew it was a little open-ended, but hopefully Redfern would have a reply.
