cold as ice and more bitter than a december winter night. | Silvercloud
Ashfrost hung around the waterfalls of IceClan. The water rushing to the ground creating roars almost comforted him. The seasons where changing and he absolutely loved the winter. Winter lived writhing him, creating the cold in his blood and the frost in his silvery eyes. Winter was his favorite season and he didn't want to let it slip too fast.
Time and been unkind to him as years pasted and friends have come and then faded. Even the friends as close as a mate had faded away with time. Loneliness was something he carried but he wouldn't admit it. He made himself gentle and bright and never showed anybody anything else. Only small moments existed where he really let himself feel and standing by the waterfall with the droplets of cold water flecking over his fur might have been one of those moments.
Then he heard a noise from the bushes behind him. Instantly he withdrew and shook out his pelt, making himself stand taller again. Nothing again. Only the brightness and gentleness he had trained himself to be.

Silvercloud was walking, somewhat impatiently, towards the waterfalls that marked Iceclan territory. She had heard about them as a kit, sitting in the elders' den with Maplefrost. She had told her denmates that she came to explore, to find the hidden haven Maplefrost had spoken of. A haven seemed good in these busy days, when her life was filled with hard work and busy toil. A peaceful place, somewhere to hide away from the clan. Not that she hated Iceclan, of course. Just, the routine of meeting new cats, seeing the new kits arrive, bound around and then disappear, that routine got a little old at some point. And that terrified Silvercloud. She knew that she was young yet, and the thought of doing this for the rest of her life was exhausting. The same routine, the same old. Well, I suppose it's the cats who make it special. The cats I'll meet. For now though, she swept the thoughts aside, content to bask in the joy of the falls. Brushing through the bushes to reach the waterfall, she was distracted by the sight of a very familiar cat. She recalled seeing him once before, in a conversation with Spidermask and Dreamkit. What's he doing here? She felt slightly bitter that he had disturbed her peace, but understood that she didn't own this place. Still, though. "Hi, Ashfrost, isn't it? What brings you here?"

cold as ice and more bitter than a december winter night. | As the shape of the cat opposite of Ashfrost took shape, he let some of his guard down seeing it was a cat he had seen before. He smiled politely as she asked him about his doings and though for a moment before answering.
"I have explored this camp so much in the last few moons. Life has been slow for me but places like these remind me of what is good." He looked behind him as droplets of water already started gathering in her pelt again. "It's beautiful isn't it?"
He settled himself in front of the falls and smiled, just listening to the song the water's rushes sang. It was a powerful song, for water was so strong. He turned his head back to the other cat. "Want to come sit?" He asked just above the roar of the falls.

Silvercloud smiled wistfully at him as he replied. It appeared that he was here for the same reason as her, and there was a strange beauty in it. Well, at least I'm not the only cat who feels like that. It's normal, and there are ways to fight it. But she saw no need to share her motivations for coming here. After all, showing weakness in front of a newly met cat was obviously not too good of an idea. "Yes indeed, it is. The sheer power of it..." She got lost in her thoughts for a moment, simply standing there and admiring the falls. The strength of rushing water had always made her feel al little small, made her feel a little lost. But it was comforting at the same time, and beautiful. Shaken out of her thoughts by Ashfrost's invitation, she dipped her head and settled down beside him comfortably. Now though, she couldn't think of much to say. But there wasn't very much to say anyways. So she sat in silence, letting the sound of crashing water roll over her.

cold as ice and more bitter than a december winter night. | witout looking, Ashfrost knew that Silvercloud had come to sit next to him because the space there was suddenly filled but something warmer than the cool air. Both cats sat in silence as the water roared before them and no words could be more powerful that those than those the falls were singing.
Ashfrost closed his eyes for a moment and let the surroundings and the moment of the present sink in. It was so rare that he felt like this, truly happy and truly at peace. Though these moments only lasted for a little while, he had learned to take hold of them while they were in his grasp. Finally he opened his eyes and looked to his side where Silvercloud sat.
"Tell me about yourself," he said just below the sound of the water as he studied the dark pelted cat that looked like a black silhouette a find the silvery blue water. He had not really met the car before and lately, time had been calling him to make new friends, ones that might last longer than the ones that flickered out after getting bored with the clan.

Silvercloud startled a little as Ashfrost spoke. Though his voice was quiet, barely audible above the roaring of the falls, it seemed to slice straight through the cocoon of silence she had built around herself. And maybe that was the intent of the words, to know her, to learn about her. She supposed it was a valid question, especially since he hadn't met her before. But she wasn't sure what he wanted her to say. She could speak about her life, about her family and friends, but somehow, lulled into peace and contentment by the falls, something urged her to say more. Just, what else could she say, to this cat she barely knew? Well, she had always been a very open cat. Maybe now was the time to show it. Giving a self-deprecating laugh, she shrugged ever so slightly and spoke back, matching his tone, "Nothing much to say, I'm afraid. My life has been fairly simple. Training, living, the same as any other cat." Stopping for a moment, she realised that she had maybe gone a little off topic. He didn't ask about your life. He asked about you. "And as for me, there isn't too much either. I'm just the run of the mill cat, living, working for the clan and making friends. And sometimes, like today, trying to seek out beauty. The camp gets old, after all, and sometimes I find a need to see beauty. What about you?" She smiled wistfully at the thoughts of her life, and turned her focus from the falls to Ashfrost, interested to find out what his heart held.

(Couldn't use temple the...left the code somewhere and I'm On my phone and can't quote the previous one)
Ashfrost listened to Silvercloud tell of her life and of her. He listened as she opened up a bit nervously at first and then grew more confident. It always impressed him when cats could open up and give up what they felt, trusting the other not to harm th for it later. That was what it was to trust another cat. That was what it was to has faith in them.
"I-" he stopped for a moment. "I...well time has been sort of...hard...on me." Another long pause. He was determined to be brave and speak. He wanted to impress himself he guessed. "I've lost lots and all...quite recently my...um, my mate. We thought we were ment to be, together, written in the stars. But I was wrong. And I guess that's okay...someone better and someone designed to be with me and I with her exists. We are just waiting to meet each other."

She waited patiently as Ashfrost stuttered his way through his little speech, understanding why he had felt hesitation. It was hard, indeed, to speak about oneself. It was easier for her, certainly, for she didn't have very much to tell, no horrors, no celebrations, no dramatics. But as she listened, she began to feel for the tom. His life had certainly been filled with more ups and downs than hers, and Silvercloud admired the courage it must have taken to speak frankly to her. Though, she would admit, if only to herself, that she felt a perk of interest in her at the mention of Ashfrost's mate. She had a feeling, somewhere deep inside her, that this selfsame mate was Petalfur. The retired queen had, Silvercloud knew, been alone and heartbroken the last time they had met. And, even though Petalfur didn't mention her mate's name, Silvercloud could see it in her eyes. And now, now that Ashfrost had returned, in his eyes too. Their mating had happened before she was born, but she heard rumours of the pairing. It wrenched at the inexperienced warrior's heart, that a love as pure as theirs could be tarnished. But it wasn't in her place to judge, after all. Keeping her voice sympathetic, she murmured, "Well, I suppose that your view of things is a good way to see it. I'm in no position to judge though. But I believe, as you do, that there's always hope. Take heart, for pain and loss never lasts."

Ashfrost smiled a sad smile at the younger warrior as she shook out his pelt, shaking out doubt and fear as well. When he looked at her again, his mind took to heart her last words. He felt...better. Is this how it felt to talk to someone freely? It felt good certainly. But he wasn't sure if he would be able to make this a daily thing, or even a monthly thing.
"Thank you," he said kindly to Silvercloud. "I really appreciate it." He looked back to the falls for a moment decided what he should say next.

Silvercloud nodded and returned to the peaceful silence of the falls, letting the sound of the water batter against her. It made her feel weak and small, yes, but that wasn't always a bad thing. Indeed, today it made her feel at peace. For it helped her to trust that, amidst this large world, there was a place for her, a path for her, and that was comforting indeed. Recalling what Ashfrost had previously mentioned, she decided to take the plunge and ask a question that had been bothering her for quite some time. It seemed a little too personal, but this talk had already gotten personal anyway, and she only felt slight reservation in asking it. "Ashfrost, not to be offensive, but how do you know if you're in love? Is there a certain feeling you get?" Silvercloud was young and curious. She hadn't experienced love yet, at least she didn't think so, but hopefully it wouldn't be long. And she wanted to know it when, or if, it came.
(It's really late here so this post will be seriously short.)

Ashfrost was a bit taken back from the sort of strange question. He was pretty sure he knew, but after what Petalfur and said to him, he couldn't be sure. It didn't matter though because love, for him was dangerous but precious. It was hard to describe.
"I'm not really sure how to say it," he muttered. "Love is like this feeling and its this action. It makes you feel like your and her are the only thing that matter and you would die for her. It's the feeling of strength and faith. But it's also doing things for them to let the know how great this is." He paused not sure whether to say what he wanted to next or not.
"And love," he whispered now. "Love cannot exist without fear. If you love someone enough, you fear for them, fear losing them. Fear of what would happen without that love."
