(this probably shows how horrible i am at choosing titles)
Dappledleaf woke up to the cold seeping into her pelt, and she rolled over, grunting irritably. A moment later, she got up to stretch out her long limbs, then cast a quick glance around the nursery, eyes drifting from each bundle of fur. She smiled, though felt as though perhaps a morning hunt wouldn't do her harm. It sounded ideal, in her opinion, so she quickly groomed and flattened her fur, then made her way towards the exit of the nursery.
Met by a cold blast of wind, her fur fluffed up in an attempt to block it out, and she shivered. She was making her way over to the camp exit when her eyes landed on a familiar pelt. Robinstar? Why was he up so early? Perhaps it wasn't as early as she thought it was. Lifting a hesitant paw, she headed in the tom's direction. "Good morning, Robinstar," she began. "Would you like to go hunting with me? Robinstar

( Don't worry I'm the same way xD )
That particular morning was one of the coldest Robinstar had seen so far that winter. Sleeping in had seemed like a perfect way to freeze, so instead he had taken it upon himself to get out of camp and get some fresh air—and, of course, to warm up a little. He had to admit, that early in the morning, the mountains were beautiful in a cold, untouched way and the silence was perfect for getting lost in his thoughts. And that was exactly what he did.
His paws were unable to stop, it seemed, and he just put one in front of the other, not caring, really, where he went. His mind was elsewhere, snagged on things of the past and the future, and it seemed he was avoiding the present. Until a voice broke that barrier, and he came tumbling back to his senses. He paused, turning around to come face to face with Dappledleaf, the new queen. "Good morning," he said in his more or less monotone voice, dipping his head. He'd met her once before, at the gathering, and she'd seemed like a kind person. If he hadn't been so closed off, he certainly would have made friends with her.
Would you like to go hunting with me? He thought about it for a moment. While he did have to be careful of company, a hunt would do much more of warming himself up than a walk would. "I suppose," he said with a slight nod.

She replied with a small nod of her head, showing she understood. Turning back around, she headed in the direction of the exit, paws carrying her, as if it were without her consent. A walk would do her good as her whole body was freezing cold.
Once further into the territory, she veered towards the river, then crossed the stepping stones to the base of the mountain. She wasn't sure if the tom intended to lead the small hunting session, but she was crossing her claws and hoping he hadn't. Looking back for a brief moment, she checked to see if he was. She wasn't surprised he was right behind her. With that, she turned back around, the started navigating her way past the rocks, and making her way up the mountain.

( so sorry for the late reply!! i've been really busy if you didn't see the pm ;-; )
Robinstar followed closely behind Dappledleaf, deciding he'd let her lead. He could use a break fromm leading - after all, it was his life. And besides, he was sure she would appreciate it. The break from her kittens probably felt great, and he was sure she wanted to decide where to go. So, he followed silently behind her, easily crossing the river. Curious, he raised his head, wondering where she was planning on going. "Where are you planning on hunting?"
( sorry for the legnth )

(no problem! you have a life, so that's great!)
She hadn't had an exact destination, to be quite honest. Pausing, she didn't look back at him, but only perked her ears to show she was listening, and that she had heard him. "Er, well, I haven't exactly gone sightseeing yet," she began. Plus she'd heard there were different kinds of prey here. Prey like shrews and... birds. The mountains birds, were, in general, considered predators. She shuddered at the thought of being attacked by one.
"Plus, I want to adapt to hunting in the mountains," she commented thoughtfully. Maplefrost had never shown her the mountains, but she couldn't blame him. He was an elder, so taking on apprentices probably wasn't his greatest experience. He wasn't a young warrior anymore. That's why she wanted to do and see as much as she could before there wasn't any time left for her at all. "I never did as an apprentice, so I thought I would now. Perhaps it'll come in handy one day."
Picking up the pace once again, it wasn't long before they were quite a bit farther up the mountain. Her fur had fluffed up, though at the same time was flattened against her body. The cold felt... nice. Plus, being stuck in the blazing hot and stuffy nursery all the time, this proved to be quite relieving.
Once they'd reached a good stopping point, where they were sheltered from the strong winds, she lifted her nose to scent the air, but the scent she'd smelled certainly hadn't been anything she'd scented before. The only scent that seemed a bit familiar was perhaps a bird, though this didn't smell simlar to a small bird like the finch or any other birds she'd caught, scented and/or observed before.
(sorry this is kind of long and the length of yours was fine<3)

( nah it's just because of school xD )
Robinstar nodded, pausing behind her. "If you were looking for suggestions, there are a couple great spots near the river," he said, raising his voice slightly so she could hear him. The river almost always had prey creeping along its banks, whether looking to catch fish or to get in a drink of water. And the river drowned out sounds and scents of approaching warriors. If all else failed, they could fish as well.
The mountains? He wasn't quite sure how her mentor had avoided taking her up there—after all, they were IceClan's main feature and most of the territory were mountains. "Alright," he agreed, turning in the direction of the nearest slope. "Would you like me to lead? It can get a bit dangerous." As always, his voice lacked feeling as he turned to look at her.
A sudden blast of cold wind buffeted the two traveling felines as they trekked through the territory, causing Robinstar to shiver. Though his fur was long, is wasn't as thick as the normal IceClanner's—thanks to his father's blood. He hoped hunting would warm him up.
As they stopped, a familiar scent caught his attention. He narrowed his eyes against the wind blowing in his face and the burning cold, finally catching the sight of a predatory bird—he couldn't tell if it was an eagle or a hawk, but either way, he assumed Dappledleaf was out of practice and that they would have a problem. The snow numbed his paws as he backtracked, turning around to face her. "I can't tell if it's and eagle or a hawk, but if it's an eagle we might have a problem."

"Sure," she replied. It was probably best he led the way, seeing as he'd most likely had more experience in the mountains. Plus, she hadn't had much idea where she'd been to be frank. Dropping back, she waited to let him lead the way.
It wasn't long before they ran into trouble. A predatory bird? She shuddered at the thought. As a kit and an apprentice, she'd been warned to keep away from them. Even crows, who were significantly smaller, could pose a threat if certain security measures weren't taken.
It was ignorant not to think of a bird showing up to cause problems, but then again, thinking wasn't something she had time to do often now. She couldn't even imagine how the leader felt. Leading wasn't something she particularly enjoyed, though if it proved necessary, she wouldn't hesitate.
"Sorry, I hadn't thought about anything we could've run into," she apologized. Grimacing, she turned to ask, "What should we do?" She had no experience fighting birds except for the occasional crow and much smaller birds during her training as an apprentice. Otherwise, she had never in her life encountered a bird the size of a hawk or eagle.
Soon it started to snow lightly, but the wind made it worse and on top of that, storms in the mountains were too great from what she'd heard. Squinting, she spotted a large bird flying above them, it feathers all brown. Some were dark and some were light. She'd had eagles described to her, but this sure didn't look like one. Perhaps this was a hawk?

He nodded, stepping lightly in front of her to lead the way. He wasn't sure how in shape she'd be—jog to be rude—considering she was a queen, and he thought it would be better if he found the easiest path. As the made their way up the mountain, it grew steadily colder and windier, and the cold whipped and tore against his pelt. He squinted through it, his eyes burning.
As the bird swooped closer and closer, he became sure it was a hawk. Thank CloudClan. Still. Hawks were dangerous, considering Dappledleaf was out of practice. "Don't worry," he said, watching the bird. "Did you hear about Lightfall's death?" He turned to look at her questioningly. Certainly she had.
"Kill it, of course," he responded confidently as small snowflakes began to fall around them. He was sure the hawk would be hungry, hungry enough to try and take off with one of them, even. He readied himself to jump next time it swooped. "Get ready."

She followed closely behind him, not finding it too difficult to keep up. Even though she had kits quite often and was -- most of the time -- out of practice, she also had two apprentices. It was enough to keep her in shape and even busier.
At the mention of Lightfall, her eyes widened. She'd heard. How could someone not hear of it? Her mother, Mothbriar and her sister, Fallensnow had spoken of it. Others had too, but news spread like a wildfire in the nursery.
She knew they would kill it, but she really meant "what should I do?". She felt safe in the leader's presence, of course, but she'd never fought anything so large. To think one of these had killed a queen scared her, but it also fueled her. She could've been carrying a life with her...
As Robinstar readied himself, she did as well. "I'm ready," she said quietly, fear and anger probably heard in her voice. Finally, the hawk swooped down again and dove right at them.

Robinstar noticed Dappledleaf's reaction, and he knew right away that she'd heard. He hadn't personally known the queen, but it shook the clan up, as well as Thunderstripe's disappearance. It had been the day before he became deputy—he wasn't sure he could ever forget it. And there was a good chance she had been carrying a litter. No one had checked before the elders buried her—though it wouldn't be likely that the kittens would have been alive.
He heard her response just as the bird swooped low towards them, talons outstretched. He bunched his muscles and outstretched his claws as he jumped, tearing into the hawk's wing. The bird screeched as he fell back to his feet, soaring back into the sky only to swoop again a moment later. This time, the leader got a better grip on its wing, not allowing it to flap any longer.

( dramatic post is dramatic + merry christmas )
As Robinstar lunged at the bird, she did as well, though a bit later. He had already grabbed onto one of the bird's wings, but she knew it would be better if she gave it her all. She was scared, yes, but she had to trust him.
Her claws dug into the cold ground, propelling her forward and upwards and she latched onto the large creature's opposite wing. The bird cried out, and as she dug deeper into it's wing, she felt a sharp pain go down her back. The bird had -- in its frenzy -- managed to dig into her back with its beak.
Before she could stop it, a small meow escaped her, and she felt herself fall from the bird and onto the ground. As she fell, her claw ripped a clean cut through its wing. Unfortunately for her, she wasn't sure if she could keep fighting it. By now she was probably more of a burden.

A pained meow came from the direction of Dappledleaf. He gripped harder onto the bird's wing, feathers flying into the air as he tried to drag the giant bird down. He watched as the queen dropped from the bird, blood blooming across her spine. Not Lightfall all over again. I won't let it happen. At least, not under his leadership. He wanted to prevent as many injuries and deaths as possible. I let out an angry growl, hoping that she wouldn't lose too much blood by the time the hawk was down.
However, not only did this mean that a queen was hurt and bleeding on a mountaintop, but that he had to kill the hawk by himself. And if he didn't, it would kill both of them. The bird continued to struggled, clawing and shrieking at the frigid air. Once it realized that it had gotten one of its attackers off by injuring her, it turned its attention on Robinstar and proceeded to attempt to rip him open with talons and beak.
One of the bird's talons caught at Robinstar's thick-furred neck, and it sliced through his skin, leaving a long, open wound between his shoulder blades and up between his ears. Robin gave a small cry, his hold faltering slightly. He scrabbled at the hawk's stomach, panicked, before the bird finally fell. The leader stood on shaky legs, snapping its neck with more difficulty than normally due to his injury. "Dappledleaf. Are you alright?"

( happy 2016 ^-^ and will this go to the medicine cat den, or? )
Her eyes widened as the bird began to panic as well as the leader, and sliced a clean cut between his shoulder blades. She made an attempt to get up, though it wasn't long before he had brought the bird down. She got quickly to her paws now, worry and stress apparent, completely disregarding the bird.
"I'm fine," she replied a bit distantly, baffled. Was he all right? "Are you OK? You got hurt too. " she commented, looking at his wound and noticing the blood soaking his pelt. She tried to calm down, breathing slowing down after several attempts. He wasn't going to die, she wasn't going to die, they weren't going to die. They would get out of here alive. Plus, she didn't want it to be her fault if the leader were to lose his first life. Don't hyperventilate, everything will be OK.
She grabbed some snow, placing it awkwardly on her spine where the wound was. It didn't help much, but it numbed the pain. She would've offered to help Robinstar, but wasn't sure if he wanted it or not. Instead, she grabbed some in her paw and placed it next to him in case he wanted to numb his wound too. Afterwards, she looked to the bird. Were they going to carry this thing back...? She'd never eaten anything so big, but she was sure it would be able to feed the whole camp.
"Are we going to carry the bird back?" she asked, looking to the leader. She wasn't trying to overwhelm him, but she wanted to know. I their conditions... "I can, if so." Her wound was bad, but she was more worried about his.

( that's probably a good idea xD )
Robinstar stared at the bird in disbelief, wondering how in the world he'd finished it off on his own. Of course, Dappledleaf had helped him tire it out, which he was grateful for. If she hadn't, neither of them would have exactly been breathing at that moment. He shook out his pelt, a few stray feathers falling to the ground along with a few dots of blood.
He frowned, padded over to look at her wound. "You don't look very fine," he responded with a grunt. "I'll be fine, don't worry," he said, waving off her concern. He'd live, and he was certain he could get down the mountain without passing out. He wasn't losing that much blood, it was just a deep cut. Besides, pain made him think more clearly.
He shook his head, gazing back at the hawk. "It's far too heavy, and large, especially in our states. I'll send a few warriors to come get it when we get back to camp." He looked back over at her wound. "In the meantime, we should get you to the medicine cats den. Can't have a queen injured."
The leader started down the mountain, pausing before he started descending. "You aren't expecting, are you?" He was almost certain it wouldn't be good for the kittens if she got hurt.

(all right, i'll stick it in the med den)
She breathed out for a moment, feeling her strength return. "I'm fine," she lied. She winced occasionally while padding down the mountain, but it wasn't unbearable. Even if she wanted to play tough cookie, she was still losing blood while they were descending. It would be good they visited the medicine cat's den after this to get cleaned up.
She moved wearily, not sure if her slurred words or lazy expression were obvious or not. She'd done well to hide how she felt most of her life, covering it all up with smiling and laughing. It had worked up until now, and she still did it. Plus, being a queen, she couldn't afford to become a bad role-model to her kits.
Was she expecting? Always, it seemed. She was. It was just announced to her personally, so no one knew yet and the signs were not at all obvious. Plus, she seemed to be a decent liar. "No, fortunately, I'm not," she meowed. She didn't like people concerned or worried about her, it was strangely offputting. She knew she had to worry about her kits, but she was positive they would all be fine. If anything happened to them, it would be on her, not anyone else. She knew it would be her fault if it caused them harm.
