(don't mind the title, i'm lazy)
Dappledleaf had been sunbathing in the camp, since it had been unusually warm that morning, unlike all the other chilly ones. Unfortunately, it didn't last for long, and as the day passed, it grew colder.
Stretching her limbs, she got to her paws then headed to the fresh-kill pile to grab a trout, as her stomach was growling loudly. Lost in thought, the Bengal accidentally ran into another cat and fell back onto her haunches. She quickly jumped to her paws and looked to the cat. They seemed a bit familiar though she couldn't seem to remember their name. Was this the new medicine cat...?
"Eep, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there!" she exclaimed, giving an apologetic dip of her head. She obviously hadn't gotten any less clumsy since her training with Maplefrost, or since her days as a kit. @addervenom

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN As Adder was discovering, cold weather meant more work.
Maplefrost kept complaining about aching joints, the herb supply still lacked some types of medicine, and icy territory would almost certainly lead to injuries. The young medicine cat hated leaf-fall already.
Muttering under his breath, Addervenom stepped out of his den and padded absently towards the prey pile. He was startled back to full attentiveness when somebody collided with him. "Watch where you're going!" snapped the pale tabby, not caring about the fact that he was partially to blame. (ah, sorry - i was pretty tired, so i wasn't really paying attention) Dappledleaf's ears flattened, and her expression grew dark for the briefest of moments. Then she smiled. "I'm sorry! It won't happen again," she finished, solemn expression now gone. Moving past him, she grabbed a trout - her favorite type of fish - then sat down a couple tail-lengths away.
Why did he seem so familiar? "I'm Dappledleaf, by the way," she meowed, nibbling on the trout. "You're the new medicine cat, right?"

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN For an instant, Addervenom thought the queen was going to bite back with a sharp retort, but then she was smiling and apologizing as if nothing had just happened. He sighed quietly. For once, someone had nearly been interesting, but alas… he was doomed to live in this world of fake emotions and petty niceties.
He grunted halfheartedly. "Unfortunately. Addervenom," stated the ex-rogue by way of introduction. "And you're the new queen." Adder could smell the milk-scent on Dappledleaf's fur just as easily as she could smell the herb-scent on his. Reluctantly, he padded the rest of the way to the fresh-kill pile and grabbed the first thing he saw, then sat down to nibble at it. This queen was probably going to continue talking to him, wasn't she? He supposed he should be used to it by now. The tom didn't seem too entirely pleased with her happy response though she didn't intend to reply too sarcastically or in a way that woud please him. She deemed it unnecessary and gave a nonchalant shrug. No matter... If he provoked her, though, the situation would've been quite different.
"Addervenom, huh?" she asked, raising an 'eyebrow'. The name certainly didn't remind her of anything good. The tom gave off an uncomfortable feeling. Turning wearily to him, she raised a hesitant paw. She kind of wanted to slap him. Sighing, she sat it back down, though left it just above the surface. Slapping him was still an option.
"Yes, I am," she replied slowly. "Is it that obvious?" she asked a bit sarcastically, now turning back to the tom. The tom did seem to bring out the worst in her, but she wouldn't let him. "Hmm..." she hummed. She wanted to say something he wouldn't like. Perhaps... No, it wouldn't work.
Moving closer to the right of the tom, she eyed him curiously. "Why do you act this way?" It was poorly phrased. She really just meant "why do you act the way you do?" but it was irrelevant to repeat it differently. He had to have known what she meant. She wasn't all that interested in him response, but the way he reacted.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN Eugh, crow, Adder realized belatedly as he scowled down at his meal, having already started to eat. He'd never been a fan of anything with feathers. But it was too late to grab something else, and he found himself vaguely irritated at Dappledleaf for distracting him when he'd been going to fetch something for lunch. The tom continued to eat with his nose wrinkled in distaste. No sense in letting it go to waste.
"Yes, that's my name," he responded a little impatiently. "I know a queen when I smell one." Addervenom hesitated at Dappled's next words, lip curling slightly to show a hint of teeth - was she trying to antagonize him now? He could dismiss the run-in as an accident, but this whole situation was looking more intentional by the moment.
"What in-" the former rogue caught himself before continuing with what in Darkpool's name, and quickly rephrased. "What're you on about? Are you looking for a fight? Because I can grant you that, but I'd love to know why you're provoking me first." WORDS: 175 || WRITTEN FOR: Dappledleaf NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Dappledleaf titled her head curiously, finishing her trout with a quick gulp. She hadn't expected him to respond so violently! Interesting. Her smile faded, a scared expression replacing it. Of course it was fake, but she knew how to put on a show.
Raising a defensive paw, she shook her head. "No, I'm not looking to fight!" she said, eyes wide. Not yet. She paused momentarily, then stood up, her expression a bit weary. "Sorry if I agitated you," she added. Perhaps getting on his bad side wasn't what she really wanted. What a queen she was...
"How's your life treating you then?" the bengal asked. Only a moment after the question left her mouth did she realize she'd drastically changed the subject. She wondered if he'd think that she had done it on purpose?

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN The medicine cat continued to glare as Dappledleaf cowered. Any rogue worth the title knew that fear meant weakness, but not necessarily defeat. This queen seemed to be backtracking more than anything, and while Adder still partially wanted to fight, he wasn't going to waste his breath either.
Then, of course, Dappled started chattering about something entirely different. Adder hissed in annoyance. "Like I'd talk to you about that," he stated sharply, obviously still hostile. The other feline had another thing coming if she thought she could pretend that last bit of conversation never happened. The tom sure was snappy... Friendly approaches didn't seem very effective, in her opinion. She knew she'd already said something to irritate him, but he just didn't give her a good feeling. Something about him wasn't safe. She didn't like it...
"I'm sorry," she repeated. "What I said was really out of hand... I don't know what came over me." Of course she had expected a typical response like, "you should be" but she didn't worry too much about it. Maybe she was just out of it today.

ADDERVENOM OF ICECLAN With an offended sniff, Addervenom stood abruptly. Talking to this queen was doing nothing other than raising his blood pressure, and he had herb work to be doing. Flamingthorn had been mysteriously absent recently so everything was up to the pale tabby tom.
He seized the remains of his crow by one wing and stalked off towards his den, not sparing so much as a parting word for Dappledleaf. WORDS: 069 || WRITTEN FOR: Dappledleaf NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2
