MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN Despite having retired many moons ago, Maplefrost still trained the occasional apprentice or two.
It was a rather brisk and breezy afternoon when the old tom stuck his muzzle into the apprentices' den and called for Knotpaw. With IceClan's deputy now too busy to mentor so many youngsters, the burden had passed to him. He didn't really mind it much. Training was just a way to pass the time and he could use the company anyway.
Trusting Knot to respond to his summons, Maple settled by the camp entrance and gave his calico pelt a few cursory licks, blind gaze flickering around idly. The sooner they got started, the better. WORDS: 110 || WRITTEN FOR: @knot NOTES - Training for Knot! template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Knotpaw had been made aware that his mentor was swapping to a new cat. He wasn't really sure what they were going to be doing, since Sunfish had already taught him some stuff. Either way Knotpaw was fairly eager to meet the cat who would now be training him. One thing that he hadn't expected was the confusion he would have once he woke up after being called by an unfamiliar voice. He opened one eye carefully, wondering why he had been waken by somebody he didn't know.
It hit him like a brick. His new mentor was here for training. Knotpaw was up in an instant and bolting out of the den. He looked around worriedly before spotting an older tom who he assumed was his new mentor. He scrambled over to the cat and settled down calmly as if he hadn't just been very worried. His dishevelled fur got in his face for a second and he swatted it aside before sitting up straight. "I'm here and ready for training. Sorry if I'm late." He stated, trying to sound professional.

MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN Well, Knot got points for promptness. Maple had only been waiting for a few moments when he heard the rapid pattering of approaching pawsteps, followed by an apprentice's voice. He nodded in greeting.
"Knotpaw, I take it? Maplefrost. We may as well get right to it," meowed the elder. He rose to his paws and padded out of the camp. "So what have you learned already?" he asked over his shoulder while following a trail through the territory. WORDS: 078 || WRITTEN FOR: Knotpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Knotpaw looked at his new mentor, whose name was Maplefrost. He followed them as they got up and started walking out of the camp. Knotpaw had been in the territory only a pawful of times, but he was already getting used to the wonder of it all. He watched Maplefrost as they asked the question of what he had done so far with Sunfish. Knotpaw thought for a second. "I explored the territory and went to the borders and learned about the other clans." He stated slowly. "I also learned a few fighting moves, but not a lot. I haven't been hunting yet."

MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN "Not too bad. We'll go hunting, then," Maplefrost decided. He led the way down towards the river, having long since committed this path to memory. That was handy given the fact that he couldn't see.
When the ground grew damp under his paws and he could hear the water rushing past, he halted and sat down at the river's edge. "Fishing is an essential hunting method for mountain cats like us," he explained. "It's very easy, just requires patience. Sit on the riverbank so that your shadow isn't across the water and hold your paw just above the surface. When a fish swims past, all you need to do is scoop it out nice and fast. Give it a shot?"
It was annoying that he could no longer demonstrate things like this to his apprentices, but he supposed that was partially why he was an elder. WORDS: 146 || WRITTEN FOR: IceClan NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Knotpaw listened as the older tom explained that they would go hunting first. Knot smiled at the idea. He hadn't been hunting yet, although that had been one of the training sessions he had been most excited for. He bounced along behind Maplefrost and in his excitement he didn't really notice the ground getting wetter beneath his feet. He did notice the river appear once it came into view though. Once he saw the river Knotpaw's heart dropped. His worst fear was water and now he was in the presence of what was the biggest body of water he had ever seen.
Knotpaw sat a few tail lengths away from where Maplefrost sat at the edge of the water. He listened as Maplefrost reiterated one of the things Sunfish had said before that kind of made his spirits sink. He needed to be able to fish to help his clan. His ears flicked nervously as he listened to his new mentor explain what he would have to do to fish. Knotpaw nodded and made his way over to the edge of the river, just like Maplefrost had explained. His paw was over the water and he was avoiding letting his shadow fall on the surface. He took a deep breath and waited for a fish to swim by. The second he was movement Knotpaw's claws were out and flashing into the water. He felt his claws catch on something and he yanked it out of the river. He scrambled away from the water and whatever he had pulled out of it as soon as he could.
