MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN With all the physical activity lately, Maplefrost almost felt young again.
Err, actually, not really. That was a lie. Moving around and getting some fresh air might remind him of his warrior days but the ache in his bones liked to interrupt his wishful thinking. At his age, the calico knew stressing himself was probably a bad idea. He should've been relaxing in his den - except that sort of life had never been for him.
He returned to camp that morning after his dawn stroll in the territory, then sat down in front of the apprentices' den and stared blindly inside. "Up you get, Sunpaw! We've got things to do!" WORDS: 110 || WRITTEN FOR: Sunpaw NOTES - Training for Sun! template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Sunpaw sighed as her new mentor called her to get up. Probably for training. She had switched mentors because Sunfish had to much stuff on his plate. She understood why, he had just been appointed deputy. A lot of changes had happen in the IceClan lately. Her mother had retired from being a queen, Wildstar had finally been replaced, and Addervenom was a new medicine cat. Sunpaw slowly got out of her nest and carefully stepped over a few sleeping bodies. "Hi Maplefrost!" Sunpaw meowed. She tried to wake herself by sounding cheery. She had a feeling it wouldn't work.

MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN The elder was greeted by a chirping response after a few moments, and the corner of his mouth quirked slightly upwards at Sunpaw's enthusiasm. Cheerfulness like that was contagious - it would be good to work with somebody who could keep his mind off the usual self-deprecating thoughts. Maplefrost flicked his tail to beckon the apprentice forward and started heading for the camp entrance.
"Good morning," he rumbled over his shoulder. "Unless I'm mistaken, Sunfish didn't show you everything, so we'll need to brush up on a few topics before your assessment. Take your pick: hunting or fighting first?" WORDS: 098 || WRITTEN FOR: Sunpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Sunpaw was a bit alarmed that Maplefrost was going to let her pick what she wanted to do. Sunfish had never did that. Sunpaw really wanted to learn fighting, but she knew more about that then hunting. Besides a lesson with an apprentice when she was a kit and the fishing lesson that got her really wet, Sunpaw didn't know a thing about hunting. "Can we do hunting, Maplefrost?" Sunpaw meowed. She at least wanted to know how to hunt, even if she wasn't good at it.

MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN "Sure," Maplefrost responded simply. He set a course for one of the pine-filled valleys once they had left camp. Navigation was certainly more difficult without the ability to see, but the old cat knew these trails like the backs of his own paws. As long as there weren't any landslides or other events which might drastically alter the territory, he felt relatively sure of himself.
At the end of the trail were a series of ledges and boulders which led down into the valley itself. He slithered down and halted once they'd reached the bottom. This was one of the easiest places to hunt; prey was everywhere amongst the evergreens. Maplefrost turned towards his apprentice once Sunpaw had an opportunity to look around.
"We'll start here, and move on to birds later. Have you learned the hunting crouch already?" WORDS: 139 || WRITTEN FOR: Sunpaw NOTES - n/a template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Sunpaw followed Maplefrost to the pine forest. Sunpaw had never been to the pine forest before. It smelled fresh and there were soft needles below her. "I haven't learned the hunting crouch yet." Sunpaw meowed. "I only got to learned how to fish and Sunfish taught me the belly rake. Nothing else." Sunpaw watched Maplefrost curiously. He was an elder, but maybe that meant he had a few tricks up his sleeve. Sunpaw would be eager to learn them.
(Agh I've been roleplaying in first person so much lately)

MAPLEFROST OF ICECLAN "Well that's something, at least. Fishing is almost a training session all by itself, and the belly rake is a good start on combat techniques. But I'll get back to that later. For now, watch."
The calico elder sank into a hunting crouch. It looked stiff but he trusted muscle memory to make it correct - he was almost low enough for his belly fur to brush the ground, but not quite, and his weight was carefully distributed across all four legs. He took care to ensure that his tail was still and low, yet never too low. After a moment of holding this position he straightened up again and twitched his ragged ears expectantly.
"Try to copy my hunting crouch. When you think you've got it, take a moment to stalk around and get used to how it feels." WORDS: 139 || WRITTEN FOR: Sunpaw NOTES - what? no, I haven't been neglecting my characters at all.
