"When I was a kit I had a little battle practice from my father," he said after a few moments of thinking. "It wasn't much, but I learned some useful things like dodging." Otterpaw purred, but he knew it wasn't much, and it wasn't really that valuable. It was quality time with his father, though, and that was what counted.

( oh my gosh i thought i responded, again, im so sorry!! i'll try harder to be a good mentor. thank you for tolerating my ignorance cx )
"It's worth something, don't worry, darling," she meowed, smiling. Quality time with your birth parents, especially your father was valuable. Many kits and cats grew up without a father, so she knew it was definitely valuable. What he treasured would always be important.
"You're already doing well in battle, so you shouldn't have to worry too much... one basic fighting technique could be known as Front Paw Blow. It's kind of like blunt force trauma, you would just bring your paw down really hard on your opponent's head with claws sheathed." She wasn't going to be his practice dummy for obvious reasons, and it was pretty basic, so anyone could pick it up.
"Second, there are death blows moves known as: killing bite and even one known as the death blow." There were also minor things triggered upon instinct like the belly rake or back kick.
"Remember your training with Hazepaw? We're going to do the same thing right now. Try to confuse my senses and then do your best to find the right moment to strike, all right? And don't worry about hurting me, if you leave your claws sheathed, everything will be fine."

((ah, no, i should be apologizing to you, i'm only on about once or twice a week anymore-- and happy 2016!))
Otterpaw listened intently to her instructions. "Paw blow thing, kill bite thing, death blow thing, got it!" He immediately dropped into a battle stance, ready to fight when she said. "Let's get this thing started!"
There were plenty of ways he could do this. Surveying the area, he noticed there was of course dirt on the ground. He could use that to distract Dappledleaf like he did with Hazepaw, but Dappledleaf would most likely see it coming. Otterpaw noticed a few leaves nearby, as well as a puddle on the ground. Those could be used to his advantage as well. Maybe even a stick that was sitting over there...
Otterpaw would have been able to think of more, but he needed to think of how else to distract her. Circling her could easily get her confused. If he was fast enough he might even be able to run around her and make her dizzy.
The perfect plan was mapped by Otterpaw as he waited for Dappledleaf to start.

( life has got me busy :< life as in school because i don't know what a social life is or what it means -tear- )
"All right," she meowed, dropping into a battle stance with her gaze fixed intently on him. She was a queen, yes, but her speed was something she was well-known for. She could outrun if she wanted, but he deserved a shot at making her look ridiculous.
"Go!" she said, waving a paw as some sort of signal. She dug her claws into the soil tentively, waiting for him to think of something. She knew he was a smart fighter, so she was interested to see what he had in mind.

((tell me about it blegh))
Otterpaw's ears flicked as he heard the go and he instinctively prepared himself to fight. Not wanting to keep Dappledleaf waiting, he immediately came up with his plan and went to work.
The first thing Otterpaw did was kick up dirt. Clouds of dust formed around his paws, but he kept kicking the dirt up until he was sure Dappledleaf wouldn't be able to see him. He then fixed his mistake from the fight with Hazepaw, and stepped OUT of the dust storm so he could see.
When he was positive that there would be no way for him to mess this up, he took a few more steps back.... and stepped on a twig. It snapped beneath his paw loudly, a groan of despair escaping from the apprentice. It was at this moment that Otterpaw knew he had royally screwed up.

( late.... D: sorry, school, life, procrastination issues, absences, jobs, future, highschool, writing on wattpad (trying to keep my story alive) )
It appeared he was trying the dust trick again. It was definitely effective, that was for sure. Her nose got clogged and stuffy and her eyes stung, making it difficult to spot him. While you could spot his shadow, it wasn't the best to work with. She was about to lunge when she heard a loud snap sound behind her.
Oh, he did not...
She whipped around, then lunged in his direction, landing a tail-length in front of him. She chuckled, tapped his back lightly with her tail, then whispered, "Better luck next time, perhaps?" She pulled away.
"Would you like to continue or move onto more hunting sessions? We could fish, too." ( he just needed battle training mostly, right...?)
