[Open to one person, preferably someone Dapplecloud hasn't met yet.]
Feeling the brambles, stiff with frost, brush through my long calico fur, I shivered. Pickings had been slim out in the territory: my solo hunt had yielded only a scrawny blackbird. The small mammals and birds that were still in the territory were wary and scrawny. Soon, snow would appear in the sky, and another leaf-bare would begin. As if it wasn't already bad... I sat at one corner of the camp, licking one of my paws and drawing it slowly over my ear. At least new apprentices were being mentored and becoming warriors, Sprucepaw among them. Still lost in my own thoughts, I didn't notice pawsteps approaching till they were loud enough to hear hitting the cold, hard ground.

Sandstone padded out of the Warriors' den and went towards the fresh kill pile. Suddenly she paused seeing a warrior she felt she knew from what her best friend Sprucepaw said. She went a little closer to the warrior. "Hello." She meowed kindly dipping her pale ginger head. "Cold morning for hunting wasn't it." She said with a little laugh. She then looked at the food pile but shook her head.
"Preys been pitiful since leaf-bare is coming." She meowed in a distant voice. She hated leaf bare, prey was pitiful, cats were scrawny: unless they went to twoleg place like pathetic kittypets and begged some twoleg for food. And scrawny cats mean sickness is at a high peak. And battles would be fatal. She looked at the other she-cat. "Im Sandstone by the way." She dipped her head introducing herself.

I looked up to see a pale ginger warrior, whom I recognized vaguely, having seen her warrior ceremony, and being out and about in camp. "Hello. Cold morning for hunting, wasn't it?" I nodded, and pricked my ears at her name, dipping my head in return. "I'm Dapplecloud. I'm glad to see another cat out here on a chilly day like this." Warriors were always there to serve their Clan, and the warriors of RockClan were a bit more resilient against the cold than TreeClan or FireClan, though the early frost of leaf-fall had driven most of the warriors and apprentices to their dens, where it was favorably warm compared to outside.

Sandstone nodded. "Nice to meet you Dapplecloud." She meowed politely. She then remembered Sprucepaw saying Dapplecloud's name....wasn't Dapplecloud, Sprucepaws mentor?.
She looked at Dapplecloud for a minute. "Wait....were you Sprucepaw's mentor by any chance?" She asked curiously.

I nodded. "Yes, I still am, but not for long." I said, my mind bringing back a reminiscence of Sprucepaw's assessment. "He did very well on his assessment: he should be getting his warrior name any day now." I said, flicking an ear when a question came up in my mind. I asked it aloud for good measure. "Are you and Sprucepaw friends?"

Sandstone nodded her head and a smile of pride spreads crossed her face. "Thats good. Hes been dying to be a warrior since kithood." She meowed thoughtfully. Then she nodded again to Dapplecloud. "Yes we are good friends, maybe in his opinion more." She stifled a happy purr. 'Wait for him to be a warrior!' She growled in her head.

"I see." I said, deciding not to push further on the subject. While I did draw inferences from what Sandstone had said, I had never been good on the topic of relationships. Suddenly, I sneezed, surprising me. It must be colder than I had thought. "Well, it seems the cold is certainly kicking in right now." I said jokingly.

Sandstone felt the breeze hit her fur and she shuddered. "I guess it is." She replied with the same joking matter.

"I don't doubt that the medicine cats will be busy treating sickness for the coming leaf-bare." I commented. "But it's just another leaf-bare, and this Clan has survived through much worse." I said, adding a tone of determination to my voice. It was true: the raids by other Clans during the varying seasons had hit us just as hard, if not harder, and even if we experienced death, such as the untimely death of Bluepaw, the Clan still survived.
