Ashkit's first thought when she woke up was that it was cold. Her long pelt may have protected her against it in the past, but it was a bit smoothed down in her sleep. The black she-kit shivered, rolling out of her bed and looking outside the nursery. If there was one advantage to the cold, it was the snow that kept popping up in the territory. There seemed to be small flakes falling from the outside, as far as Ashkit could tell, and her blue eyes gazed around the nursery. Was anybody awake? It seemed like, despite the cold she could feel through her fluffy pelt, nobody was awake.
The black kit decided to pad outside, and was blasted by an even colder blast then what she felt in the morning. Sneezing slightly, she allowed a few snowflakes to drop on her tail as she rushed back into the warm-by-comparison nursery.

Winter never particularly minded the cold. It could have been for many reasons- his thick pelt, his name, but he thought it was because the cold was all he'd ever known. At such a young age, it might have been a depressing thought- that one so young had experienced so much of the wintery winds and of the light blizzards that plagued the landscape, but he didn't mind. At this point he was numb to it, really.
He was numb to a lot of things, actually. However....irritation was not one of them.
Since the warmth of the nursery was unfamiliar, he liked getting outside as soon as possible in the morning. It seemed nobody was quite fond of him staying out there too late, but they never bothered him in the mornings. Of course, a kit who happened to wander out had made too much noise. He hadn't been sleeping, no, but the scuffle of the kit's paws when it ran back inside. Winter's eyes glanced towards the noise, ears flicking angrily. It might not have noticed him- his pelt was mostly white, after all.
"Either come out and stay out, or don't bother," he called.

Ashkit blinked, looking over towards the white tom's voice. "Uh... I was expecting it to be..." She looked down at her gray paws, before looking back up, "Well, expecting it to be not very different because of my... longer pelt." She mewed, shaking out said fur. She felt a bit warmer when she did so, but the cold was soon to return. "P-plus, i thought the snow would be worth the cold. Guess not." Spreading her paws apart, she shook out her fur and tried to get it to be a bit more fluffy. Outside. Go outside, dear Ashkit. Make shapes in the snow today!

Winter grumbled to himself quietly and sat up properly, if only to keep up proper appearances. He had no intention of being particularly polite to this kit, but it might do him well to have some sort of 'ally' while he was here, since he seemed to be stuck. He didn't know why this clan had extended such apparent kindness towards him, and he was aware he was too young to understand much of it, but might as well make the most of it. The scents and warmth of the nursery were still too unfamiliar for him to feel very comfortable speaking there, surrounded by so many strangers, but seeing as how he was now in the snow, he wasn't as wary. He could slip away easily without being scolded or trampled, or sticking out against the brown earth and bracken of the nursery floor.
"You think it's cold?" Winter asked, genuinely confused, though he quickly determined a reason. "Ah- you are more used to your warm home inside. He gestured dismissively towards the interior of the nursery with his tail. Snow has no worth- what makes it so special to you?" Others seemed to have a fascination with the white stuff, Winter didn't understand it.

Ashkit had managed to stay outside the nursery by the time that Winterkit started to speak. The black she-cat nodded at Winterkit's first two inquiries, but she frowned at the last.
Why did she like snow so much? Ashkit reached out a gray paw, scooping a bit of snow into it. "I-I guess it helps me be noticed in other ways than just being in the nursery." She place her paw back down, before letting herself lower her tail into the freezing snow. "Pl-plus..." Ashkit started to say something, but the thought quickly passed and she had no idea of what to say.

Winter tipped his head at her first answer, somewhat confused by what she meant, but he made no comment on it. He didn't quite understand what she meant- he had no desire to be noticed, unless he wanted to make a presence, yet she wanted to be seen? She was more visible in the snow, he supposed, as opposed to Winter, who would have been near invisible, if not for his eyes and darker markings that gave him away. He was only partially interested in what she had been about to say, yet hadn't, and wasn't intrigued enough to ask her to complete the sentence.
Most cats introduced themselves, yes? Perhaps he should make a habit of doing so. "I am Winter," he stated, leaving off the 'kit' since he hadn't yet decided he wanted to adopt that form of his name. It had been fine as just 'Winter' in the few weeks he had used it before, it would suffice now. Maybe later he would take another form of his name, but in the meantime, the kit suffix made him feel weak and small, and he would ignore it. "Who are you?"

Ashkit looked up at the sky, letting her paw collect some snow before carefully throwing it back down. "Winter, huh?" She mewed, looking back over at the small tom. "I'm... Ashkit." She mewed, and winced at herself for almost forgetting her own name again. "It's nice to meet you, Winter."

Winter visibly relaxed a tiny bit as Ashkit made no move to question his name. He didn't need to explain his origins, or lack of them, for that matter. His past, however short and blurry it might have been, was his own, and he would prefer to keep it that way. He could easily understand why she was named after ash- he hadn't seen it before, but it was supposedly some sort of gray and black, so her name must have been a jab at her appearance, as his own was. His also could have been in relation to his date of birth, but that was another matter altogether.
"....nice to meet you, too," Winter grumbled, since it was more of a formality than a genuine comment. "Any particular reason for you being out so early?"

Ashkit blinked, before looking back over at the other cat. So early? It was just the beginning of the day! "Because its calmer," She mewed, flicking her ears, "I don't really like noise much, so getting out early... prevents it." The black she-kit looked back among the snow, and sneezed slightly. "N-Not really worth the cold, but yeah, I'm staying out here."
