Natalia yawned.
It was a dark night. Not a sliver of moonlight was visible, obscured by clouds. Of course, it made it more than a bit challenging in the way of moving about. Why wasn't she in her nest resting? Answer was simple. She felt like taking a walk and only a while into her walk was she beginning to feel she should've done her exercise closer to her nest than picking a direction and wandering until she got overly bored or something interesting happened.
Although... Something interesting might happen. Her pelt was not the brightest out there, but it wasn't exactly shadow camouflage, showing off fiery colors. She narrowed her eyes, trying to make out her surroundings. She sniffed the air. Was there someone there? In preparation she moved her paws and limbs in such a way, she'd be in the position to bolt if her entertainment proved to be aggressive.

Slate couldn't sleep during these dark nights. How could he? It is always so dark outside. What if some thing comes along and attacks me in my sleep and I can't see it? He shook his coal black fur and kept walking along the icy ground. A cold wind blew past, ruffling his fur again when he noticed something.
Two eyes, light green by the looks of it, where scanning the surrounding area like a light tower. Slate immediately ducked under a bush of bracken. Another cat? Deathclanner or Enemy? He sniffed, only cold air reaching his muzzle, not letting him smell the scent. Another thing to hate about these freezing temperatures.
Wait a minute... My eyes light up also!! It can see me? He tried to rustle around to hide his shining turquoise eyes, but the cat had already spotted him.

The night was quiet.
Natalia flattened her ears, having heard movement. Despite anyone's best attempt, it would be impossible to be completely silent. Her breath caught in her throat, catching a glint of eyes. There was definitely someone out there. She wasn't sure who it could be. Was it some Deathclanner or a threat? Or was it both?
As far as she could tell, Deathclanner and threat could be synonymous. She could only make out eyes, so she figured the cat had a dark pelt. She was definitely the one who'd been spotted first. She wasn't exactly invisible. Not exactly the best fur color, bright red, around these parts. Practically asking for some cat itching for a fight to pounce on you.
She decided to speak up. "I'd rather we didn't waste time. I see no point in exchanging false truths... Are you looking for easy pickings?" Her voice dropped to a growl. "I can assure you, that you've come to the wrong place."

Slate's breath caught in his throat as the she-cat approached him, cutting strait to the point and taking him as a threat. He stalked out of the bracken to get a better look at her, seeing her bright ginger pelt almost glowing in the night. "Pickings? No, I wouldn't another Deathclanner for the heck of it..." He tried to make his meow as honest sounding as possible, he didn't trust himself all that much either to not hurt her.
"I just couldn't sleep," Slate continued, trying to make small talk "I'm guessing you're out for the same purpose?"

The fact that they were both in the open did not make the dark colored cat any easier to see.
Nor did it make Natalia any less visible. How annoying. He seemed to be rather harmless. Or at least, to a fellow Deathclan member. At least he didn't seem to be interested in harming her. Hm. He was even making an effort to sound sincere or at least innocent. He offered up an explanation for his being in the area.
She nodded. "More or less." She responded simply. She exhaled deeply. "I'm Natalia. You?"

This Natalia bought Slate's exclamation, he sighed in relief, he thought he was going to get in another fight for a stupid reason. "Nice to meet you, Natalia." He meowed, grooming his face with a paw, trying to look calm. "I'm Slate."
While Slate sat there, he quickly scanned what he could see of her. She's young, like me. Smaller, but not sure how strong. He sniffed, able to catch her scent now that she was nearer. Still slight scents of Twolegplace, but mostly Deathclan. "I'm guessing you are somewhat new around these parts?"

Natalia thought it was a fitting name for the tom.
His pelt was appropriately dark colored, like the rock he was named after. He seemed... Fairly friendly, judging from his tone and words. She couldn't read his body language, seeing as she couldn't see him. How annoying. Oh well, she'd have to make do.
She could sort of make out that Slate was of similar size to her. Probably roughly the same age, give or take a moon or two. She nodded in response to his question, though thinking herself slightly stupid, considering he probably couldn't see. Or perhaps he could. She was more visible than he was. "Yes, I am." She responded.

Slate kept his distance after inspecting Natalia, fearing she might suddenly fight him. But why would she do that? One part of his mind argued, while the other was: Stranger Danger!!! RUN!!! He ignored the later. "Okay." He simple said "I'm new as well, kinda... Um..." He tried to continue, but just found unable to with this she-cat. She was just... So... He wasn't really sure on that either.
He sighed "I'm sorry, I am terrible at conversations." Slate wondered if he should even be out this late. Should I just go? She seems fine with me just talking... But it is pretty dark out. I won't sleep anyways.

Natalia agreed with Slate's assessment on his conversational skills.
She made no physical gesture, but continued talking. "I typically am of the opinion that casual conversation has no meaning." She meowed bluntly. She knew it was part of the process to extend friendship to cats... The problem was she found no value in such connections.
She didn't associate Slate with extreme danger... However, she did maintain a certain amount of skepticism towards strange cats. Which was every cat aside from herself. At least, that she knew of. As far as she was concerned, she had no family. She'd never bothered to attempt to befriend a cat before, as such her cynical attitude was geared towards all cats she met.

Well, she has a lot of vocabulary words. Was another mental note Slate took as the she-cat outright stated that this conversing had no meaning to her. "Well... Okay then," He shrugged "do you want me to leave? I like to just talk, but if you don't I can just leave you alone." He turned around, knowing the answer would be yes. But he turned his head again to look at her and hear the answer.

Natalia seemed to consider this.
"... If you have something more than empty words then feel free to talk." She simply didn't want Slate to try and form a connection between them. She didn't care for things like that. However, if that wasn't his intention... She supposed it was alright. She didn't feel any desire to sleep quite yet and this was an adequate opportunity to kill time.
