The monotony of leaf-bare was something the young tom had grown used to; wake up to the cold, stay in the nursery because of the cold, and watch snowflakes fall from a cold, gray sky. So, when Frostkit had awoken early one morning to see the glimmer of sunshine on snow, he was understandably happy. He padded cautiously from the nursery, his long tail weaving back and forth behind him. The air was still chilly, but as long as the sun was shining, Frostkit was content with even the illusion of warmth. Looking up, the kit couldn't help but smile; the sky was a clear, pure blue, the sun an intense white spot that hurt to look at. There were no clouds to speak of, and for that Frostkit was grateful. Stepping fully out of the nursery, the tom nearly collided with another cat. "Whoops, sorry. Didn't notice you," he was quick to say, his voice conveying the truth behind the apology.

Skykit could not for the lif of her understand the excitement other kits held for snow. All it could be seen as in her eyes, was cold white powder that drenched your fur when you're body heat melted it. What was the fun in that? What she did get, however, was how those that were more sensible, found it great and exciting when the sun finally showed up to meant the snow. It meant there'd be more medicine herbs and more prey, and a lot better season for knitting and raising young.
This was one of those times, and so she was in reasonable sports about it, enjoying the slight warm the young Ray's provided. Or at least the illusion of it. This was until another cat collided into her. Fortunately, he instantly apologies, admitting he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. Sighing, Skykit shrugged it off. Surely her father's status meant that she too would be expected to grow up fair and loyal. And so she just dipped her head at the apology, wondering who the other kit was. He was new to the nursery after all. Clearly not a new sibling, unlike Needlekit and Heartkit, the other new younglings. Fortunately she was to be promoted soon enough.

Frostkit grinned, relieved the other kit had not taken offense. He studied her quickly, noting her easily-apparent seniority, and placed her at nearly the age one needed to be to become an apprentice. "I'm Frostkit," he proclaimed, meeting the emerald eyes of the she-kit with a bright, cheery amber gaze. "Who are you?" he asked as he began to sit down, only to stand back up immediately as his pelt made contact with the icy cold of the snow beneath him.
(sorry this is so short, I have no muse)

Skykit was glad he didn't seem to worried about offending her. She felt as though she'd taken a sudden liking to the younger Tom. As he stated his name, she dipped her head in response and greeting. She did however pause her response as she watched him sit down before shooting up out of the snow. Twitching her ears slightly in amusement, she portrayed nothing as she nudged him forward and bounded onto a rock, scraping all the snow of it with her paws before settling down with her paws tucked under her, blinking lazily at Frostkit as she gestured for him to join her. It wasn't often she'd take such action to ease another's troubles, other than her bad tempered sister Heartkit that was. Once they were settled, she curled her tail tip and responded like he'd just question her. "Skykit. I am Flamepath and Doestrike's daughter" To be honest, Skykit even had a reputation for not talking. Even coming off as rude.

Grinning at the she-kit's kind gesture, Frostkit leapt upward as well, scrambling to keep himself from falling backwards. After he'd settled atop the rock, he turned his gaze once more to the recently introduced Skykit, hardly even noticing the pause she'd taken in replying. His gaze filled with the wonder that came so easily to a kit of his age when she mentioned who her father was. "Wow," he said, his voice not much more than a whisper. "You're the deputy's daughter? That's so cool!" he added, his voice rising from a whisper to an enthusiastic exclamation that almost caused him to fall from his perch. After having regained his balance, he turned his attention back to the older cat, his bright amber eyes full of friendly warmth and curiosity in equal parts. "What's he like?" he asked, tilting his head to the side as he did so.

Skykit found herself quickly tiring of the conversation as Frostkit became a whole lot more interested in knowing more about her father. To be honest, she couldn't blame him. Knowing the deputy's children must be awe inspiring. Yet to be honest, it wasn't so great as one might perceive. Drawing back in her silence, she just offered a nod as he justified to himself that the deputy was her father. She had just told him that. At his question of what the deputy was like. She merely shrugged, blinking slowly. She knew him no better than any other kit. If the kit wanted to know, he should ask her older sister Birchpaw, who happened to be the famous tom's apprentice. She herself had only met him the one time. And such was rather underwhelming, she'd ended up sitting silently on the other side of a rive until they were to go back to camp. Then she'd simply curled herself in the nursery and blocked out the sound of her siblings gushing over him.

Worry sprouted in the young tom's normally warm gaze; had he offended her somehow? He hoped not, but he didn't want to add insult to injury by pressing the matter further. Instead, he changed the subject, dismissing the worry from his gaze so that the only thing left within his amber eyes was the characteristic warmth. "So, Skykit," he began, shifting into a more comfortable position as he did so, "have you ever been outside the camp before?" The question may have seemed irrelevant, but Frostkit hoped that it would distract the she-cat from his earlier question. And if she had been beyond the camp walls, he would like to hear about it; the world beyond the camp had to be more interesting than the one he'd known since birth, even if it was covered in snow.

Skykit smiled, for once matching the warmth in the other's gaze. She knew he had been curious, but she respected that he changed the subject to suit her. She also noticed the clearly uncharacteristic worry, waving off the subject as though it had been nothing. She perked her ears forward and nodded as he asked his next question, clearly trying to make her feel better. Noting his efforts, she mulled over the words before forcing herself to offer a response. Not that she didn't enjoy the conversation, it was just the less and less she spoke, the harder she found it to do so. As though she were forgetting how. "Yes. It was very....very..." damn, now what was that word? In her defence, she'd never used it in her life, so she wouldn't quite know. She'd heard others say it though, like her mother. "Uhh...it starts with 'b'...Beautiful! Yes that's it! It was very beautiful. Covered in dew and frost. The river was slightly frozen too." Thinking further, she came up with a few more words before speaking again. "I even swam across it."
Suddenly she dropped her head, the disappointment of forgetting words slowly kicking in. "I...I don't talk much, to others. I, feel I'm forgetting how..." she mewed gently, wishing she could know more. Yet it was her own fault. She knew the words, she just couldn't form them, as she'd never taught herself to do so as a youngling. One day, she'd stop talking altogether. And when it really mattered most, she would have forgotten how.
(I'm actually going to have this happen. Maybe something bad happens, like a family betrays her or leaves, or she finds something out she shouldn't have, and she just stops talking all together. And then she has to find someone to re-teach her. XD)

Frostkit smiled, happy that Skykit seemed to have shaken her melancholic mood. Upon hearing her description of the outside world, and of her experiences while there, the young tom's desire to see it for himself only intensified. He'd heard of rivers before, and the thought of such an enormous body of flowing water, capable of carving away the landscape, filled him with equal parts terror and awe. The scene also sounded just as the she-cat had said; beautiful. "That sounds great," he said, unable to come up with a more suitable word as fantasies of the territory beyond the camp played out within his head. The torrent of dream-like hunts and scenic vistas halted upon hearing the older kit's plight. Another hint of worry began to spread across his face, before he banished it once again; Frostkit refused to let sadness overtake the she-cat, and so he put on his best smile, his eyes as light and seemingly care-free as always. "I'm sure that won't happen," he asserted cheerily, with an optimism that came so easily to him, letting his gaze wander about the camp. "There's always something to talk about. And if you ever need to, you can talk to me anytime," he added after a moment.
(Oh cool, that'd be a really interesting plot.)
