back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe dug her claws into the bark of the tree, standing on her hind legs and eyeing the nest that lay a couple of branches above, She drew her tongue over her lips thoughtfully, scanning the area for any approaching birds to alert the other woodland creatures of her approach. The nest seemed to be of a smaller bird, so she didn't have to worry about being attacked or carried away, but a pesky myna screeching in her ear wouldn't be too pleasant either. After making sure the area was clear, she uickly scaled the lengths of the tree, jumping from branch to branch and occasionally slinking up the trunk. She reached the nest in no time and was delighted to see a small nest of eggs waiting for her. Stupid birds, laying eggs in weather like this. She growled happily and mounted the branch the nest was perched on, sticking her head inside and taking an egg in her jaws. Tastes like sparrow, sweet. Her snack was gone in less than a minute and the tabby lapped up the last few droplets of yolk, lifting her head and sighing softly. her hunting trip thus far hadn't been too successful, and she was determined to bring back something, even though she was journing increasingly close to the IceClan border. She knew the rules well, but she didn't have a problem with venturing close to enemy territory.
The loud call of a bird alerted her and her gaze whipped around, landing on a now escaping sparrow. She didn't hesitate for a second and leapt from the branch of the tree, stretching her paws in front of her in an attempt to catch the bird. Unfortunately, she was only a couple hairs off the the prey slipped form her grasp, and she watched with spite as it fluttered away screaming bloody murder. She landed on an accompanying tree gently, glaring after the escaping bird angrily. Not willing to let the small creature escape her, she quickly decended the tree and began to run through the quickly thinning trees, steadily approaching the border.
The bird flew in a zig zag pattern, giving her enough time race ahead and scale a tree on the very edge of the foest. She waited until the bird stupidly flew underneath and pounced on it, grabbing it in her paws and landing on the ground with a heavy thump. The sudden drop caused her to fall on her side and roll a couple times, before she came to a stop, kill clutche din her paws. Groggily, she stood up and lay the catch down, panting heavily, before a strong scent hit her nose. Eyes widening in shock, she spun around and drew in a mouthful of the disgusting scent, before suddenly realising that she was on the very edge of the territory. One more step and she'd have been trespassing on IceClan land. Swallowing hard, she slowly picked up the bird and began to move off, when she heard pawsteps approaching. Oh CloudClan, just my luck. Simple strolls were things Petalfur had grown to appreciate. She had always been the hard working kind of cat, but since her... issues, she had taken the liberty to be more relaxed. However all this procrastination at doing something useful other than the basic requirements and assignments had begun to leave Petalfur agitated, restless, and bored. The Bengal she-cat was keen on walking beyond her usual paces, all the way around the boarder to do a full, day-long trek, renewing the scent markers as needed. A wind laden with the tinge of Treeclan scent swirled around Petalfur, reminding her that she was, and had been for some time, near hostile territory. It would be expected for a patrol or two to be spotted around the boarders, of which Petalfur hadn't seen any. What she hadn't expected, nor intended, was to nearly march out int the sight of a lonesome hunting Treeclanner. Determined not to ruin this other cat's hunt, Petalfur instinctively nestled down into a little patch of sparse growth on her own side of the boarder, watching in awe as the lean she-cat leaped and bounded from tree to tree, then finally to the ground. Assuming the huntress had seen her after the pause she had taken to gauge her distance from the boarder, Petalfur stepped out from her hiding spot, approaching the boarder with a non-hostile demeanor. "Impressive!" The Bengal praised honestly, flicking her tail at the trees.

back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe gently placed the bird at her feet, turning her head to look at the approaching cat with narrowed eyes. Her pelt was itching with anticipation, and she felt a strong urge to take the prey and run. However, with a shuddery sigh she sunk her glaws into the dirt and stood her ground, tail lashing back and forth in worry. She never really was one for interacting with strangers, let alone strangers from other Clans. This was the exact opposite way she planned on spending her day. Her anxiety was building fast, and she felt her breathing hitched in her throat when the cat padded towards her. They...didn't seem hostile. Maybe it was a mask behind something sinister, ror maybe she was over thinking things. Either way, she didn't trust this cat one bit.
The compliment surprised her, and she was unable to speak for a moment. This IceClanner watched her hunt -her, an enemy cat- and didn't make an effort to scare away the prey? And now she was complementing her hunting technique? She felt the urge to soeak, but her throat was dry and she couldn't bring herself to think of anything clever to say. Instead, she cleared her throat and swallowed a couple of times, kneading the ground thoughtfully. "O-oh, uhm, thank you," she croaked, hating the hesitation in her voice. "Although I wouldn't consider it so myself, my landing was rather...rough." She chuckled hesitantly, before drawing in a deep breath to clear her mind and attempting to lock eyes with the cat. She was a she-cat, that much was obvious, and a particularly large one at that. Compared to Hornetstripe's lean not-yet-filled-out frame, she was a lookimg presense that intimidated her greatly. Although, she didn't seem dangerous, or even remotely interested in starting a fight. That much was a relief.
She decided that small talk could be helpful in breaking the silence. "So, you're an IceClanner, correct?" Oh no, not at all. She's definitely a FireClanner. Good one, Hornet. "I mean, uhm, what are you doing here? Not like its, uhm, my business, you know..." She silently cursed her stuttering, wishing for onc she could just get out a coherent sentence without sounding so weak and vulnerable. She hoped that the other cat didn't try to take advantage of that, deciding to puff out her coat in an effort to make herself seem larger. 400 | @//tagged | bad post, low muse ulla

It was beginning to seem clear that Petalfur's presence was not only unexpected, but the cause of some paranoia. Nevertheless, the Bengal was intent of staying kind. Her thoughts on having different clans rather than one strong clan had always been that it was stupid, however she saw the pros of how it was now, and what might result if there was a change. So, regardless of the boundaries, Petalfur was the kind of cat who constantly made the step towards being peaceful. That wasn't to say she was a poor fighter, she just preferred she wasn't expected to fight. "Oh, at least you survived!" Petalfur remarked in regards to the other cat's rough landing. "I would have broken every bone in my body!" She chuckled slightly. The next question made it very clear that the other cat would much rather be somewhere else, as far as Petalfur could tell. "Just... Strolling, to be honest. I have a lot on my mind that I need to think about."

back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe chuckled quietly and studied her paws, slightly scared by the thought of breaking a bone. Climbing was her forte and if that were to be ruined by a simple misjudged fall, her world could practically end. She mentally scolded herself for not being careful enough, before turning her gaze back to the IceClanner and nodding slightly. "I suppose my bones have just gotten used to the odd fall. It's nothing new, really." She kept her words short and clipped, afraid of giving too much away. She was still on edge, her paws ready to spring to action and run if the other cat showed any signs of aggression. She'd never really had any experience fighting, aside from the occasional tussle with a leaf or brief training period, as well as watching others play fight. Her training hadn't included much that she could use to overpower a cat such as this one, so she was extremely worried if things ever became hostile. Although, for some reason she didn't believe it would come to that today.
She pricked her ears slightly when the she-cat spoke again, and she nodded politely. She could relate to that much, at least. Her constant worrying more or less lead to a lot of alone time to think over things that she'd rather not focus on, so she empathised with the other cat, even if her thoughts weren't too bad. "I see... Well, I have to tell you now, just in case you were wondering," She gestured towards the invisible boundary with her tail. "I didn't cross the border. I landed quite close, but I didn't. Promise." The rather rushed explanation was one she felt necessary, as she wanted to keep the conversation civil and clear things up whilst she had the chance.
She bit her lip, staring at the sky behind the she-cat for a moment, before sighing and turning her gaze to the ground. "Well... My name's Hornetstripe. It's...nice to meet you."

"Oh no, I know," Petalfur assured the other she-cat upon mention of the boarder. "And even if you had, it would have been an accident." Succumbing to the brief silence that followed, Petalfur found herself truly considering what her actions would have been if this other cat really had crossed the boundary. A majority of her clanmates would have sprung to action immediately, tossing vulgar threats around and raking their claws down this awkward cat's flank. Would she have followed suit? Or would she have admitted that every cat makes mistakes, and ushered her away with a mild warning and a wide smile? Either way, Petalfur was happy she didn't have to decide. "Nice to meet you, Hornetstripe," Petalfur responded in default response. "I'm Petalfur."

back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe gave the she-cat a quick glance, a small smile of gratitude on her face. The kind and understanding demeanour was something she wasn't used to, and caused her to question her judgemental approach believing that this cat would -like may others- be a territorial Warrior that wanted nothing more than to rip her to shreds. The stereotype wasn't caused by anything in particular, just her own beliefs and pre-judgements that more then less turned out to be incorrect. She made a mental note to re-evaluate her opinions.
The IceClanner spoke again and she raise dher head, locking eyes with her for a moment. She didn't expect the returned compliment, and it caused a slight heat to rise up in her cheeks for no good reason. Blushing was a habit she didn't really enjoy at all, but it came with the anxiety. Petalfur, she thought, letting the name roll around in her mind for a few moments. "That's a really pretty name. You're quite lucky, I got named after a bug." She chuckled almost to herself, glancing around at the hilly expanse behind Petalfur. IceClan territory sure did seem quite secluded...and cold. She could see the white dusting of snow atop the mountains and felt a slight prick on envy. She'd always thought she was better suited to be an IceClanner -aside from her frail figure that would be in no shape for laborious climbing- and her extreme love of snow and all things col just fuelled the idea. But alas, she was apparently destined to be a TreeClanner. But she could still dream.
"So," she stared, flicking her tail over the grass in thought. "How are things up in IceClan? Anything exciting happening TreeClan is quite dull, so any news is welcome." She forced a quick laugh, trying to let the last part come out jokingly, as she felt her first question was too nosy. She gave a hopeful smile to Petalfur, hoping she wouldn't take offence. 330 | @//tagged | so motivated rn ulla

Just a 'bug?' Petalfur's overprotective instincts kicked into gear, hung over from her time as a queen. Her insides yearned to reassure Hornetstripe that she wasn't named after an ordinary bug, and then to dive into some lengthy rant about the nobility and strength of hornets. She swallowed it. "Oh, you know, the usual," Petalfur responded, shifting her weight on her paws before sitting, relaxed. "Ceremonies, the return of prey, defrosting streams, invisible kits and disappearing mates." Her gazed drifted to her paws, analyzing the scuff marks in between the patchwork of grass. "The usual."

back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe swallowed uneasily when Petalfur's mood seemed to shift, and she wondered what she had possibly done to cause the change. Her worry didn't stick around for too long, and her attention was snapped back up when the she-cat began to speak again. She her brow furrowed when she sat down, and a few thoughts surfaced, most of them wondering how in CloudClan she could settle down so easily. Weren't encounters with cats from hostile Clans supposed to be scary? She was definitely scared herself, and the small gesture that should have been meaningless caused an eruption of activity in her mind. Am I supposed to sit too? If she is, then would it be polite for me not not do the same? Am I coming off as hostile if I stay standing? Will she judge me for it? Growling almost inaudibly, Hornetstripe forced her back legs to fold under her and she took a shaky seat on the grass, her claws sinking into the ground uneasily.
She nodded at the reply automatically, before stopping when Petalfur said a few things that sounded a little...interesting. The last words piped her interest, and she leant forward curiously, wondering if she would go on. However, to her slight disappointment, h she-cat's mind seemed to drift from the conversation leaving them both in silence. "Oh," was all she could say, not really able to process what she'd just heard. After a moment of quiet consideration, she took a deep breath and smiled as genuinely as she could. "Well, that's certainly more interesting that whatever the heck's happening back at TreeClan. Doesn't sound too fun, though I-if you'd like," she flattened her ears shyly, eyes locked on her paws "feel free to vent. I won't tell a soul, promise." She knew the offer was probably in vain, but remained a little hopeful that perhaps the other cat feel comfortable enough to get a few things off her chest. 340 | @//tagged | sorry for taking so long omg ulla

The Bengal watched, somewhere else in her mind, as Hornetstripe took an uneasy seat. It almost seemed as if the younger Warrior would much rather be elsewhere, which wouldn't have bothered Petalfur if the she-cat said something rather than suffer quietly. Clearly Hornetstripe was to uncomfortable in her skin to make a mistake without being scarred the rest of her life. Petalfur analyzed this, realizing that refusing to comply might leave her new acquaintance even more shy and embarrassed. Petalfur released a sigh, smiling in a sad, reassuring way while nodding slightly. "Its not that big of a deal, and I'm not the only one out there," Petalfur began, uncomfortable herself bringing up her love life with a stranger. "My mate and I - former mate, now - he and I had kits together. They were beautiful, strong, brave and unique." She smiled longingly, her eyes glazing over for a second as she recalled memories. "It wasn't unusual for him to disappear. He'd done it so many times in the past, but when we became mates I guess I just thought that maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't do it again. He did, left the kits and I alone. Now they've faded to mist, Cloudclan knows why or where or how. It's like I can't keep a family. It's my curse."

back away from tangents, on the verge of drastic Hornetstripe was quite surprised when Petalfur began to speak again, seeming just as uncomfortable now as she felt. She hadn't expected in the slightest for the other cat to speak her mind; a small summary at most was what she expected but a full blown confession? Yikes. Her expression began as an encouraging smile, but quickly dampened to a worried stare the longer she listened, eventually having to avert her gaze so she wasn't tempted to see the raw emotion reflected in the she-cats eyes. She was almost compelled to ask her stop, completely aware that this was a topic she was extremely sensitive about and pained her to speak of.
She let silence envelop them after the confession ended, not willing to speak just yet. Her mind was blank, trying to imagine the feelings that Petalfur was having to struggle through without help, but failed to empathise. She herself had never really been that close to another cat, so the sense of attachment that she must have felt to her kits and mate was unimaginable. Eventually, she sighed and glanced back up, trying her hardest to look the other cat in the eyes even for just a moment. "U-hm, you...I'm so sorry." She wasn't sure why she was apologising, but instead of dwelling on it for too long, she simply allowed the words to spill out. "I can't honestly say that I can understand what you're going through, because really I can't even begin to imagine it, but I can at least say that you're really, really strong for pushing through something like that. And who knows," she gave a small smile "maybe one day your kits will return as full grown Warriors with families of their own. I'm sure you'll see them again one day." She wasn't too sure what to say next, instead letting her eyes drift off to the side in thought. 320| @//tagged | Ashfrost was online the other day by the way. Petalfur shook her head dumbly at Hornetstripe's apology. It stung to share her feelings, especially when they were so raw, and she wasn't really sure herself why she had spilled her guts about information so precious to her to a total stranger. Perhaps it was the idea that it wouldn't matter outside of her own clan, that it wouldn't come back to nip her in the heels. After all, what use would a rival have with a random, insignificant former queen's treasured emotions? Yes, Petalfur told herself, that's all. It's not important. Not comfortable, not wise, but not at all important. A rueful smile crossed the she-cat as she looked up at Hornestripe. "A family... My kits as warriors..." Petalfur whispered in a hushed voice choked with emotion. Tears threatened to well up in her eyes, yet by some unknown power she managed to suppress them. She shook her head slightly, her eyes turning to her paws. "It's my greatest fantasy." A lengthy silence seemed to pass for Petalfur as she struggled to regain her composure. It was inappropriate, she was beginning to feel, to dump such a stupid load on an unsuspecting Treeclanner. It wasn't fair, she argued. Petal took a lengthy, shaking breath, then released it all in one sad puff, imagining the sadness being washed away as her breath was expelled. Her eyes lifted from the ground, and she made an effort to meet whatever gaze Hornetstripe might give with as much forced optimism as she could muster. "I'm sorry. I seem to have obliterated your positive attitude, and for that I am sorry."
