The Weather Needs to Make Up Its Mind (O)

[Brackensky]

Brackensky squinted at the sky.

There were a suspiciously low amount of clouds in the sky. It was still the midst of Leaf-bare, yet it felt as if it were the first moon of New-leaf. Pleasant in temperature, but a bit dreary otherwise. She almost wished the seasons were cats so she should be able to throttle Leaf-bare for being inconsistent. The inconsistency made her claws itch horribly.

Perhaps she was being a bit paranoid, but she expected things to drop below freezing before the sun rose the next day, with snow burying half the camp. The nursery had been too uncomfortable, she had needed fresh air. She scratched at the ground. If she was right, then she'd want as much time outside as she could before she would have to go for temporary hibernation. 

Her gaze darted around the camp.

[Sunkit]

Sunkit almost glared at the snow again as he stepped out of the nursery. He'd been hoping the weather would make up its mind and decide that it was actually supposed to be New-leaf. He at least had hoped the seasons would toss some sunshine into the mix. Yet alas, this was not so. Sighing, he shook his head with exasperation and allowed his gaze to wonder the half sodden camp. Noticing one side notably had a lack of snow, he gave a slight nod and picked his way in said direction, ears pricked as he stepped lightly. He was one of the newest kittens in the nursery, though such did not deter him from exploring. It was not long before he came across another cat, and smiled as he noted her to be one of the nursery queens. Approaching her, he sat down before her and smiled, meeting her gaze. "Hi Brackensky" he purred in greeting, ears twitching with interest in what the queen was doing.

Brackensky's gaze ended up landing on a small kit that approached her with a greeting.

She smiled at the small kit. She knew his name. He was a new addition to the nursery. "Hello, Sunkit." She meowed back. She was fairly certain the small tom-kit was the child of Sandstone, the temporary queen in the nursery at the moment. She sighed, and looked skyward. While there were few clouds, the sun was still obscured, annoyingly enough. "Shame we can't see the sun right now."

Sunkit purred as the queen seemed to instantly recognise him. Of course, there was not doubt that she would, she was a main queen in the nursery and knew every kit and queen by name. Or at least most. And being one of three newest additions, and the only Tom so far of the most recent temporary queen, it was kind of hard not to know of him. Twitching his ears, he smiled happily at her before following her eyes toward the clouds gathering across the sun. He frowned at this and shook his head disappointedly. "What is the sun like? Is it bright?" he felt stupid asking the question, though it was genuine. Since first leaving the nursery with his sister one or two days ago, he had never actually seen the sun, as there had always been clouds and plenty of snow. He hoped the sun would come out soon, as the thought of its warmth intrigued him. He lowered his gaze to peer curiously at the queen with a bright smile.

Brackensky nodded with a smile.

"The sun normally is extremely bright. It's so bright, it is best not to look straight at it. You could possibly go blind." She warned. "But, it warms the lands and makes almost everyday a good day to be outside when Green-leaf rolls around." She explained. 

[Sunkit]

Sunkit nodded and purred happily. The sun sounded amazing, and very powerful. Was it more powerful than his leader? It certainly shine brighter. He was pretty sure Cloverstar couldn't make you go blind just by looking at her. Maybe if she clawed you eyes though. Blinking up at the queen, he tilted his head to one side, confused. "This is leaf-bare right? Why didn't momma just wait till green leaf to have us? Surely warm is better for kits, right?" of course, being very young, his intelligence wasn't exactly the best. He'd just have to wait for his mind to catch up with his mouth.

Brackensky looked up.

"True..." She admitted. "Greenleaf is kinder to kits than Leaf-bare, where it is possible kits can freeze or catch greencough." She then smiled. "But... Since you're a kit now... You'll be an apprentice, maybe even a warrior come Greenleaf. Then you'll be able to help the clan make most of Greenleaf when it comes." Honestly, she was mostly making assumptions and applying logic as she was speaking, as she had never experienced a Greenleaf in Rockclan. However, she knew of the disease greencough and was fairly sure kits small and fragile bodies wouldn't exactly be the best for withstanding the cold. Also, she understood the average amounts of time that cats spent as apprentices and warriors. It had been explained to her.

The young kitten nodded, narrowing his eyes and knitting he non-existent eyebrows together in thought before widening his eyes and purring excitedly. "Yes, I will be a great warrior. And when I'm an apprentice I will catch lots of prey. Once I'm big, those other clan cats will be shaking in their fur!" he flickered his tail, happy at this thought before casually swatting at a butterfly that fluttered past his nose, not even pausing to wonder why there was one there at all.

Brackensky smiled seeing Sunkit contemplate it, before bursting with enthusiasm.

"I look forward to the day." She purred in reply. It filled her with a warm feeling watching this kit gently swatting at a butterfly that had flew past. The young kit wasn't her's... But still. 

[Sunkit]

Sunkit twitched his ears and purred. "Me too!" he responded happily before spotting a cat wondering across the camp that seemingly looked familiar from before he left the nursery for the first time. "I gotta go now. Momma will want me soon" as though to highlight his point, a voice called out his name and he wave his tail in farewell. "Bye bye!" he purred happily before bounding back into the nursery enthusiastically. He rather liked this queen.
