DapplecloudFlintkit emerged from the nursery with his bushy tail wagging in curiosity. He had been out of the nursery before, but not far out from it. Today he had earned his freedom to interact with the camp and its residents. The frisky little kitten began to run around until he bumped into a much bigger warrior. "Hey! Watch where you're going!" The kit fluffed out his fur in attempt to look bigger.

Having just returned from the territory, I shook myself slightly to let the dampness from the fog get out of my fur. Newleaf was definitely here. Not that I was complaining, of course. There was more prey, and the Clans had fewer reasons to stray across their borders, which I had just checked. I made my way toward the warriors' den to rest a bit, but before I could reach it, I felt something thud against my right foreleg. Being thankful it wasn't my left one, where an old, long scar stretched, I looked down. A small, gray kit sat there, looking slightly bewildered. "Hey! Watch where you're going!" the kit exclaimed, fluffing out his fur. I purred in spite of myself, being much bigger than the kit. "Sorry about that, I was just heading over to the warriors' den. You okay?"

Flintkit averted his eyes away. "Of course! Rockclan cats have to be tough!" He remained on his feet even though he was tired from his sprint. He didn't want Dapplecloud to have to look down on him. "We can't have those bigger clans pushing us around!" Flintkit inhaled, trying to catch his breath.

The kit huffed, still visibly trying to stand up to his full height. I smiled inwardly at his antics. "Of course. And you'll get to learn all of that when you're an apprentice." I remarked. "What's your name, by the way?" I asked.

"I'm Flintkit." He looked at her with a confused expression. "I thought everyone knew that already." He shrugged his shoulders and stared at her for a minute, but didn't ask for her name. "What exactly do apprentices learn?"

"My name is Dapplecloud." I said in response to his name. Flintkit... I certainly hadn't heard that name before. Maybe it was because I didn't really spend much time around the nursery. "What exactly do apprentices learn?" he asked. I thought about this for a bit. "Some mentors have different methods of teaching apprentices, but all apprentices learn the territory, hunting, and fighting. Sometimes mentors teach some personal skills of their own." I mused. My own mentor had taught me certain ways to fight because of my large size, which I had passed on to Spruceclaw. It would have certainly gone back through a long line of apprenticeships.

Flintkit absorbed the information, but not too much was going on in his head. "Then...who will be my mentor?" As if Dapplecloud knew. His tail flicked around. "I want a mentor who specializes in everything so I can be the best warrior the Clans have ever seen!"

"I want a mentor who specializes in everything so I can be the best warrior the Clans have ever seen!" "That's an admirable goal." I said. "I'm sure Cloverstar or Flamepath will give you a good mentor, so they can teach you everything they know." I did learn my lesson that my mentor, Eagleheart, didn't know everything, but some skills could still be self-taught.

Flintkit brightened. "What if Flamepath was my mentor? Or Cloverstar? That would be so cool!" He bounced around excitedly. The kitten began to run around Dapplecloud. "Fear me! I am Flintstar!"
(sorry it's so lazy!)

"And I'm sure you have the potential to succeed Flamepath or Cloverstar as well." I purred, as Flintkit ran in circles around me. "Though you'd have to work extra hard as an apprentice and as a warrior." I said. It was pointing out the obvious, but becoming the deputy or leader was very hard. I hadn't considered it myself, recently: I didn't consider myself to be a leader. Though Flintkit certainly had the attitude... and the motivation.
[no problem, I've been a bit inactive since I was busy finishing Fallout 4]
