She turned in her nest. A bright orange kit, brown fur just beginning to speckle her otherwise pure pelt. Firekit was her name. She slowly rolled onto her stomach and attempted to stand up, her blind eyes unable to help her. Everything was dark, and the nursery, though spacious, smelled of comfort. It was home. Flexing, without warning her lids flew open. Amber eyes gazed down at her paws, then up at the roof of the den. She could see! Her momentary triumph was cut short though, by a brief moment of panic. She heard a noise. Who was that? Was it another cat?

Dustkit lay lazily in his nest, wondering if it was worth it to stumble out and travel blindly around the nursery again today. He hadn't made any friends so far, aside from his siblings, and wasn't sure how to go about making more. No one probably want's to be friends with me anyway, he thought, slumping into his nest. He lacked the ability to see, which made playing games with the other kits much harder for him.
A sound from nearby reached his ears, causing him to sit up in his nest and direct his attention towards the sound. Figuring that it wouldn't hurt to at least speak to another cat, and get out of his nest, the pale brown kitten got to his feet and took a few steps towards where the he heard the shuffling. "Hello," Dustkit mewed shyly, trying to pinpoint exactly where the cat he was talking to was standing.

Firekit gingerly rose to her feet. So it was another cat. It greeted her. "Hullo" she mewed, out of a silent obligation to return the greeting. "Name's Firekit" she told the other cat simply. "You?" She continued to stretch as she awaited a response.

Dustkit's ears attentively caught the direction of where the other cat was, and he adjusted himself so that he was facing her better. He listened to her words carefully (having scented earlier, when he padded closer, that she, in-fact, was a she-cat) and tried to judge her age and appearance by her voice. Firekit, he thought, keeping track of her words while his ear quirked curiously to the side. I've never seen fire before, obviously, but they name cats "Fire" who are ginger, right? Maybe a tabby as well? he began to form a mental picture of the cat he was talking to in his head while he responded.
"I'm Dustkit," the tom mewed with a smile, although there was still an heir of shyness about him, "it's a pleasure to meet you."

Firekit smiled at the other cat. "Hey." She began. "Your eyes. They're weird." She had not yet been in the world long enough to learn tact.

Dustkit recoiled ever-so-slightly at the younger kitten's words. He wasn't offended by her words, but the fact that his disability was notable to others always struct a wrong chord in him. His tail twitched a bit before he offered a shy, slightly embarrassed smile. "That's probably because there broken," he mewed, trying his best not to sound embarrassed. He had come to realize, over his moons of being in the nursery, that other kits who could see normally had a hard time grasping what exactly blindness was like, and that describing what it was like was incredibly difficult. This comparison had become more-or-less his resort when he was questioned about his pale, cloudy-green eyes.

Firekit sensed the change in tone. "Broken? I'm sorry..." She mewed, legitimately feeling bad for the other cat. (I'm low on muse atm, sorry ^^

(it's fine, don't worry about it :3) Dustkit grinned at the she-kit's genuine words. "Oh, you don't need to apologize," he meowed, "they've always been this way. It just means I cant see things. It feels normal to me," he said, trying to make Firekit feel better.

Firekit smiled. "Well, then that means you'll get really good at hearing!" She meowed, not entirely aware of how that worked.

"You're absolutely right," the shy tom-kit mewed with a smile, "I also have a good sense of smell as well. I play a killer game of hide-and-seek because of it; and I can never cheat!" he grinned and swayed his tail in a happy, dog-like manner.
