Nettlepaw Avalanchekit ventured outside of the barn, curious about the outside world despite the rules. As long as his parents didn't find out he'd be fine—or anyone, for that matter. But it wouldn't be hard. He was small and the tall grasses would conceal him easily. He made a beeline for the meadow.

I yawned as I padded through the tall grasses of the makeshift territory. Why did I have to be sent on this wild goose chase. Apparently the leader's son— a kitten, might I add— has gone out on his own. Apparently this was in relation to my training and me becoming a better warrior. I was quite frankly surprised that a one eyed apprentice would be sent after such an important little ball of fur. Oh, how Oneblaze would get a kick out of this. I was just happening to be grumbling annoyed curses to myself before I stepped on something that felt a lot like a tail. I looked down and reached down to put my foot down on what I assumed to be a kitten. It'd keep the thing from squirming away at least.

AvalancheStarbucks® let out a surprised mew as something smashed his tail, pain blossoming at his rump. Next thing he knew, the Starbucks® was on his back, trying to push him down. His first thought was that he was being attacked by an enemy—but the scent of IceStarbucks® filled his nose, and anger coursed through his veins. He turned around and bit at the Starbucks®, trying to struggle free.

I stand corrected. The thing did try to squirm away. I glared at the white fluff ball that was unmistakably a kitten. A very small kitten. Was it even old enough to talk? Or walk? "I'm guessing you're the leader's brat that I was sent to get." I said in a bored voice. "If you want to stop trying to bite my paw off, I'll walk around with you a bit before we have to go back to that stuffy little shack."

Avalanchekit broke free, his already spiky pelt even messier. He stood taller, raising his chin and regarding her with a cool gaze. He was prone to strong emotions, and let it show just how angry he was. "Why would they send you? You can only see half as much as any other warrior," he retorted through gritted teeth. "Why would I go with you? For all I know, you might kidnap me and force me to do things," he said with a roll of his eyes, fluffy tail flicking back and forth.

I felt my patience completely snap as he mentioned my eye. "I got this by defending our clan. Make fun of me when you do the same." I gave him a serious look, brow bone raising. And then a laugh escaped me at his little comment. "Yeah, right; like I'd be interested in a twerp like you. Any how, I'll just go back to camp, give your father your general direction and tell him that you refused to go back after violating rules, insulted me... and, oh, yeah! You don't think he'll punish you. I'm sure he'll not only love hearing that, but coming out to hunt you by himself instead of tending to his leader duties."

Avalanchekit rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed with this warrior. "Not very well," he mumbled softly under his breath so that she couldn't hear. He huffed as she continued to speak, watching her with a dagger-like gaze. "You'd probably do that anyway. Why do you want to come with me so badly?" He asked, a heavy frown appearing on his face. "It's not like you enjoy my company. And if you're trying to get in Robinstar's favor through me, it's not going to work."

I leaned down close to his ear and whispered, "Then why don't you and I go find that eagle? We can learn how much meat it'll pick off of your bones," I said with a quiet laugh as I moved back. "Huh? I just don't like being in that ratty camp and I can use this as an excuse to be outside of it without some annoying warrior to bug me."

Avalanchekit watched her with a deadpan stare. "Aren't you just hilarious?" He said, sarcasm dripping from his voice. He glanced out at the meadow, longing to just escape and run free. Why weren't kittens allowed out anyway? Or at least the smart ones? It was a stupid rule. He knew to stay away from anything that didn't smell like cat. "You're an apprentice? Huh. I thought you were a warrior. Did you get held back?" He asked, mischief in his eye. He sighed. "Fine. Let's go."

I gave him a little shrug before leaning back, letting out a yawn. "Oh, thanks. I'll have to tell Oneblaze that— maybe he'll stop calling me a kitten then," I grumbled with a snort. "But, yes. I was held back. I had to take a lot of time to recover, though I find it ridiculous I was prohibited from training during the process. It was infuriating. Still is." I gave him a pursed-lipped smile. "Oh, good. I was afraid I'd have to pick you up the scruff," I said before walking in front of him.

"Oneblaze, huh? Is he your mate? How cute," he responded, flicking his fluffy tail. He smirked when she answered his question, but it disappeared soon after, as if he really didn't find it all that funny. He headed into the tall grass, staying alert for any moment he could dart away from Nettlepaw's watch. "I wouldn't stand for that," he stated simply.

I couldn't choke back loud laughter as he called him my mate. "That guy? He's about as conceited as a cat can get! He wouldn't have me as his mate even if I didn't have this thing on my face!" I shook my head and sighed. "No, he just hates me because his father liked me better despite me not even being his kid. He'd rather have all four of his paws twisted than be with me." I didn't know why I had to justify myself to the kitten. Maybe I was justifying it to me who just needed to hear it so that I could get over him faster. "Obviously you wouldn't be standing. I'd be holding you up, furball."

As we walked, Avalanchekit studied her face. Like his father, he was quite good at reading others. She seemed… he didn't know how to describe it, exactly, but she definitely didn't seem fine with the fact that he hated her. "Yknow, that 'thing on your face' isn't what really matters," he responded, turning away. "It's the personality, I think. And yours is rather prickly." It was him trying to say that she wasnt ugly—if thats what Oneblaze thought, then he was a terrible person. "Do you wish he liked you?" Avalanche asked, cocking his head.

"I imagine it's hard to be with someone for potentially... well, forever, when you can't stand looking at their face. Everything just being about a cat's personality is some romantic bull that a superficial idiot, who was probably attractive, came up with." I shrugged and strode forwards, not wanting him to look at my face anymore. "I suppose I live up to my name, though prickly is the nicest and most ironic way anyone has ever described it as," I said with a snort. I hesitated for a moment at his next question, steps faltering. I resumed my pace and looked over my shoulder at the kitten. "It... it— it doesn't matter what I wish. He doesn't and that's that. I don't expect anyone to ever like me... in that way. It's just how it'll be because, sorry to crush any dreams for you, no matter how much I, or anyone, wishes, they'll never come true."

"I've been looking at your face, haven't I? I'm not making a big deal out of it, so you should stop making a big deal out of this. It's a scar. Doesn't matter." He said, watching as she turned her face away. He did the same, though hurried so he'd be ahead of her. "You most definitely do," he agreed quietly. "What a dream crusher!" He complained loudly and sarcastically. "Wishes are unrealistic," he agreed. "But I was simply asking—do you want to be with him?" He asked again, pricking his ears for an answer.
