PalefireFlintpaw rose from the apprentice's den drowsily. He tried to shake off the sleepy feeling, knowing he had to go to training. The apprentice bounded over to the warrior's den and peaked inside, but did not dare to walk in. "Ripplefur?" He called in but got no answer. The apprentice's ears flattened in disappointment when he remembered his father had the morning patrol. "Ugh, what am I going to do now?"

Hailpaw was an early bird, and she was just tearing off a piece of her vole when she heard Flintpaw's meow. 'Ooh, I think that's one of the new apprentices!' She had recalled Ripplefur getting an apprentice or two. This must have been one of them. She frowned as the tom spoke again. 'Poor guy.' She prodded her vole with a paw. There was enough left for another cat. "Hey, you wanna share some breakfast?" She asked, hoping Flintpaw had heard. Maybe food would cheer him up.

Flintpaw knew immediately that she was an older apprentice. She was bigger than him, but not quite the age of a warrior. The young cat hadn't made many friends yet due to his fear of being deemed stupid. "Sure." He went closer to her and examined her prey. That's a vole, right? They look like mice.. "I'm uh...Flintpaw." The poor thing was still getting used to his new name.

Hailpaw purred lightly, pushing the prey away from herself. "Go ahead. I've had enough." She sat up, nodding when he introduced himself. "Hailpaw." She responded, tilting her head to the side. 'Flintpaw.' She smiled. 'Never heard that one before. I like it.' "Congrats on your ceremony. Have you settled in well?"

Flintpaw sniffed the vole carefully and took a bite. He swallowed before he whispered, "That's definitely not a mouse.." The apprentice nodded when she told him her name. He could remember that. "I think so. It's comforting to be with my siblings at least. Are you...almost a warrior?"

Hailpaw chuckled. A mouse? Why would he think that? 'It sure doesn't smell like one... Maybe it looks like one?' She made a mental note to ask someone about it later. "Well I'm glad to hear that. And I'm not sure... Do I look like an almost-warrior?" How long has she been an apprentice? It didn't feel that long. 'Goodness, I hope I don't look like a giant!' She frowned, squishing herself closer to the ground at the thought.

Flintpaw shrugged. "I don't know. You just look older than me." He realized his comment had made her uncomfortable. Flintpaw could tell by the way she tried to make herself smaller. He desperately searched his brain for a way to make her feel better. The dark apprentice got an idea. Instead of becoming smaller, he fluffed out his fur to its maximum potential. Flintpaw simply laughed at himself.

"Oh." She flattened her ears as he began to laugh. The blind apprentice couldn't see his fluffed up fur, so she immediately became confused at what was funny. "Um..." Hailpaw didn't know what to do. Maybe she was missing out on something. 'There could just be something funny standing behind me.' She relaxed at that thought. That had to be it.

Flintpaw kept on laughing. "What? This is hilarious!" Not realizing she was blind, he continued his "joke". When she looked behind herself, he made an assumption. The apprentice flattened his fur and apologized. "Did I embarrass you? I'm sorry!" The poor thing couldn't catch on. He had never met a blind cat before.

'What's hilarious?!' Hailpaw didn't know what to think now. She froze in her spot, unsure of how to react. She gave a small shake of her head as he went on. "No, you're okay. I just don't know what's so funny."

Flintpaw stared at her, still not understanding what was going on. "I poofed out my fur to try to make you laugh." The apprentice looked to the side and decided he need to work on his comedy.
(sorry it's so lazy ;_; )

Hailpaw sighed in relief. So it had nothing to do with her. 'He was just trying to make me laugh!' She smiled gently. He was sweet. "I appreciate the effort. I probably would have laughed if I could see you." 'Aw. I bet he looked like a ball of fuzz!'

It finally hit Flintpaw like a boulder. She...can't see me.. The apprentice blinked hard, finally realizing it all. "Oh." She was blind. Flintpaw decided he would try a verbal joke this time. "Do you like puns? They always make me laugh." They drove his siblings crazy, but he loved them.

"Oh." Hailpaw kept quiet, waiting for him to go on. She grinned at the next thing that came out of his mouth. She wasn't expecting it. "Oh sure, I love puns."

It took Flintpaw a few moments to muster up a really cheesy pun. "I told Heavypaw a joke this morning. He got frustrated and said 'You've cat to be kitten me right now.' " He snorted at his own foolish joke. "I smiled and said, 'Yeah, my jokes are pretty clawsome.'" The apprentice got a good laugh out of that one.
